David's Fireside Cocktail

David’s Fireside Cocktail

David Venable

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Tennessee Whiskey
  • 1 oz Ruby Port
  • 5 oz boiling water
  • 1 bag Earl Grey tea
  • 1/2 oz fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup

Preparation

In a footed Irish coffee mug or your favorite 8-oz mug, pour the whiskey, port, and maple syrup in first, place a tea bag in the mug, and pour hot water in. Allow to steep for at least 3 minutes.

While the tea is steeping, make a flag garnish with the orange peel and cherries by sliding the toothpick (or skewer) through one end of the orange peel, then the two cherries, then through the other end of the peel. The orange peel should look like it is holding in the cherries.

Once the tea is finished steeping, remove the bag, pour in the orange juice, and garnish with the flag.

Garnish

  • 3" strip of orange peel
  • 2 Luxardo cherries
  • 1 long, knotted toothpick or cocktail skewer

Cook's Notes

To enjoy an alcohol-free version of this cocktail, omit the booze and orange juice and substitute 2 ounces of pomegranate juice.
