Bought this attachment for my KA mixer when our hand crank ice cream maker finally gave out. First, bowl is full of liquid for freezing, but also makes the bowl somewhat heavy. You must freeze the bowl a minimum of 15 hrs before using or you can just keep it stored in the freezer, but it does take up some room. Next, the insert pieces that attaches to the mixer and churn your ice cream - just personal preference but I wish it was made out of metal like my other KA attachments. The whole set does great mixing and churning the ice cream. However, the instructions say it will firm up within 20 minutes. I ran mine almost an hour and it never firmed up (my bowl was in the freezer 2 days prior). In fact, the longer the bowl churned I started having condensation dripping off the bowl so the freezing liquid was no longer frozen solid. At best you will get soft served ice cream from this set. We stored the left over ice cream in an air tight container and was perfect, solid the next day. You will not enjoy the ice cream right away. Best the next day, after it has had time to firm up. I should also mention we used our own ice cream recipe that we have used for years and did not use one from the handbook. It could be the difference in fat content, so I will try one of their recipes next time. We do plan to keep the unit and does a great job, but just requires a little planning and patience.

I have had this product for about a month now and have used it more times than I can count. I found a simple recipe that I really like, so it is easy to mix up, and it only takes 20 minutes to make in the attachment. The only thing to be aware of is that this has the consistency of soft serve, so if you want it to be more frozen, you should put it in the freezer for a few hours. I usually make a batch in the afternoon, and put it in the freezer. Then the whole family enjoys some delicious ice cream for dessert after dinner.
Rated 3 out of 5 by FinejewelryCKR NOT THE FASTEST WAY TO MAKE ICE CREAM!
I have this ice cream attachment and it is NOT the fastest way one can make ice cream.
It is VERY easy to use, do not get me wrong!
However, the ice cream turns out like a soft-serve type--not with the density one gets from a good brand of ice cream.
The soft ice cream is, still, very smooth and delicious; however, if you want it to be denser, you need to place it in the freezer for at least 15 hours or overnight--for best results.
All in all, it takes up as much space as my REAL ice cream maker with less optimum results.
Thus, I would not recommend this product for the aforementioned reasons.
I rather use my Cuisinart Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker recommended below.

It's really easy to make ice cream, instructions very simple, I have made about 6 ice creams! I normally make the vanilla ice cream, because it only calls for the least ingredients, and I just add bananas or cherries and boy they come out great! There are two step to process, the first step takes only 30 mins and then let mixture chill in refrig for about 5 hours and last step is using the ice cream maker attachment, you stir your mixture in the freezer bowl for about 20-30 mins and add your bananas or cherries or whatever you want to try, mixture will start to thicken. Be sure to freeze the ice cream attachment before using! Then put ice cream in a good container with cover, I use a strong thick Rubbermaid container with cover that locks, ice cream comes out nice and creamy, then put in freezer and it should be ready within 5-8 hours! Try not to use thin plastic containers, cuz they would freeze ice cream like a rock! Homemade ice cream is the best, a little pricier but worth the extra dollar or two! Good luck and have fun!
Rated 1 out of 5 by DebbieFierro Leaks Blue Fluid
I used this about 10-15 times and took good care of it. It was inconsistent in the firmness and texture of the ice cream. Now, it is oozing blue fluid from the side where it hooks into the mixer. The warranty has run out and I get to throw away, this very expensive, useless attachment. This problem is apparently very common if you check other websites.
