Marinara Sauce

David Venable

This basic marinara recipe is perfect for freezing in batches for future meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1 (28-oz) can tomato purée
  • 1 (28-oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 3 (28-oz) cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 Tbsp dried basil
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

Directions

Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Sauté the garlic and onion until aromatic and tender. Add the white wine and simmer for 1 minute. Stir in the remaining ingredients, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for at least 40 minutes.

Cook's Notes

Be sure not to brown or burn the garlic because it can make your sauce taste bitter.
