Serves: 8 Servings

Ingredients

  • 9 cinnamon sticks, divided
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 5 whole allspice berries
  • 3 (2"-long) peels fresh ginger
  • 2 Tbsp light brown sugar
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 2 qts apple cider
  • 8–16 oz vanilla vodka (optional)

Additional Items

  • 1 (4" x 4") cheesecloth square
  • Butcher's twine

Preparation

Lay out the cheesecloth on a flat surface and place one cinnamon stick, the cloves, and the allspice at the center. Fold all the corners up and tie them together with a 6"–8" piece of butcher's twine to form a sachet.

Combine the ginger, brown sugar, nutmeg, and apple cider in a medium saucepan and stir. Add the sachet to the saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat and allow the cider to sit for 15 minutes.

Serve the cider warm, garnishing each glass with a cinnamon stick. If serving with alcohol, add 1–2 oz of vanilla vodka to each 6–8 oz glass of cider.
