Thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch of fabric. Thread count alone does not ultimately determine softness, but it does predict the weight and airflow of the fabric. All QVC sheet sets offer a minimum thread count of 300, with select sets measuring in with a thread count as high as 1,000.
A sheet with a high thread count may not yield a softer sheet. Softness comes from a combination of factors including the weave, type of cotton, treatments (such as an anti-wrinkle coating), and thread count. Depending on the manufacturing processes, sheets that contain a thread count of 300-400 can be as soft or softer than one with a thread count of 1,000.
The traditional blend utilizes cotton's natural ability to allow fabrics to breathe and wick away moisture. This blend mixes long and short fibers when twisting them into threads.
Widely considered to be one of the highest qualities of cotton available, Egyptian cotton is grown in Egypt and consists of fibers which are longer, resulting in a silkier thread.
This is the name used to promote textile and apparel products made with 100% American Pima cotton, grown in the southwestern United States. The staple length of Supima is 35% longer than regular cottons. This increases softness and luster. And since fewer fiber ends are exposed, it minimizes the effects of abrasion, resulting in less pilling. The Supima trademark is a registered trademark of Supima Association of America.
The type of weave and construction used for sheets can vary from ornamental to something functional. Variations in weave and fiber used in sheet construction will affect the characteristics of the cloth. Some fibers and constructions will breathe more and other combinations can keep you warm and cozy.
Consists of a twill weave with threads layered over one another, exposing a longer thread on the fabric surface. Imparts a smooth, silky feel against the skin.
Made with a balanced and closely woven plain weave. The percale construction is both durable and smooth to the touch. Sheets made with 100% cotton percale feel smooth and crisp to the skin.
Pique sheets are designed to achieve a textured appearance with a soft touch. Its high and low texture is created during the knitting or weaving processes. Pique construction is made by spinning two yarns together to create a stronger yarn that's soft and supple.
Wrinkle Defense® Technology
The Wrinkle Defense process is designed to decrease the appearance of wrinkles for up to 50 wash cycles. It provides a durable, soft, and smooth sheet surface when the care instructions (included) are properly followed.
Flannel is a material that's woven and put through a brushing process that lifts the threads to create air pockets that impart a soft and fuzzy feel. When comparing flannel sheets, look for weight rather than thread count. A quality flannel material is in the 5-6 oz range.
Threads in a jersey knit material are knit around one another rather than woven. This construction gives the fabric some stretch (or "give") for a soft and comfortable feel. It feels like sleeping in your favorite T-shirt!
Polyester is often used in this sturdy and durable material with manmade threads. It's also easy to care for, has fewer wrinkles than comparable sheets, and looks great with prints and bright colors. Sheet sets with a higher weight are often brushed for a soft, suede-like feel.
This fabric is soft, comfortable, warm, dries quickly, and is durable for long-lasting good looks.
Jacquard refers to both a type of loom weave and the cloth produced by such looms. The jacquard process allows for intricate designs and textures to be woven into the material itself.
One of the oldest manufactured fibers dating back to the 1880s in France, rayon was originally developed as an alternate to silk and has a naturally smooth and soft texture. The material has strong moisture-wicking properties to help keep you cool and comfortable.
