Coffee and Chocolate Chili

Serves: 12 (makes 6 qts)

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 Tbsp kosher salt
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and minced
  • 2 (15-oz) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15-oz) can red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 (15 oz) cans diced tomatoes
  • 3 cups tomato sauce
  • 2-1/2 cups brewed coffee

Preparation:

In a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and cook for 2–3 minutes. Next, add the onions, chili powder, and cumin. Stir together.

Add the cocoa, chocolate chips, cayenne, salt, garlic, and jalapenos. Mix together and cook for 3 minutes.

Add the beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and coffee.

Cover and simmer for 45–55 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cook's Notes

Chef's Note: If you’d like to make this a vegetarian chili, just replace the ground beef with your favorite beans!
