Blackberry Basil Margarita

Blackberry Basil Margarita

David Venable

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 2 cocktails

Ingredients

  • 8 blackberries, plus more for garnish
  • 8 to 10 basil leaves
  • 1 oz basil simple syrup
  • 2 oz of tequila
  • 1 lime and more for garnish
  • Splash of water
  • Ice

Preparation

Muddle the blackberries and basil. Place the blackberries and basil in the cup of the cocktail shaker. Add the basil and basil simple syrup. Use a muddler to crush the basil and blackberries. If you don’t have a muddler, you may use the back of a wooden spoon.

Add the ice, tequila, lime juice, and water into the shaker. Put the lid on tight and shake for about 12 to 15 seconds or until the shaker is very cold.
Pour into your glass of choice. If you would like to add salt to the rim of your glass, take a lime wedge and rub it on the rim of the glass and then dip the rim into a bowl of kosher salt.

Strain into a glass, add your garnish, and serve.

Basil Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 to 4 bunches of fresh basil
  • 1 cup water

BASIL SIMPLE SYRUP

Add 1 cup of sugar, 2 to 4 bunches of fresh basil and 1 cup of water to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil. Let cool and strain.

Cook's Notes

You can replace the alcohol with club soda or tonic. You can also use different berries like strawberries, raspberries or blueberries for different flavors.
