Buttermilk Biscuit Donuts

David Venable

These tasty treats are easy! Using biscuit dough makes for a delicious donut that saves you time.

Donuts

  • 2 qt frying oil
  • 1 can buttermilk biscuit dough

Glaze

  • 1-1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 4 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange

Garnish

  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup honey, room temperature

Directions

To prepare for the donuts, start by preheating a 3 to 4-qt Dutch oven with the frying oil to 350°F.
To prepare the glaze, whisk together all of the glaze ingredients in a mixing bowl and set aside.
To prepare the donuts, sprinkle flour over a cutting board or clean work surface and lay the biscuits on the floured surface. Using a 1/2 inch ring, punch out the center of each.
Working in batches, add half of the donuts and half of the donut holes to the Dutch oven and fry until the bottoms turn golden brown, 1 to 1.5 minutes for small donuts and 2 to 2.5 minutes for large donuts. Turn the donuts and holes, then fry for 1 to 2 minutes longer until golden brown.
Remove them to a paper towel-lined plate and allow to cool slightly. Repeat with remaining donuts and donut holes.
To glaze and garnish, dip each donut, 1 at a time, in the prepared glaze and then in the graham cracker crumbs. Place it crumb-side up on a roasting rack over a baking sheet. After all of the donuts have been dipped, drizzle them with the honey and serve warm.

Cook's Notes

Have more time? Homemade biscuits can be substituted for the premade, canned variety.
