Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For My Cats I have had this fountain for 1 1/2 years now and it is a huge hit with my 5 cats. They all love drinking out of the running water. I ordered it because 2 of my cats wouldn't stay off the bathroom counter when we turned the water on in the sinks. We soon realized they just wanted to drink out of the faucet as the water trickled out. I saw the Drinkwell Platinum Fountain and thought it was the perfect solution. Turned out they all like it. Here are a few things about this fountain that I have discovered that might help those having problems. #1. It must sit on a level surface. If your floor is lumpy or not perfectly flat it will hum and make noise, which can be so annoying. I suggest putting a washable placemat underneath the fountain, either fabric or plastic. Something that will level it out. #2. You must keep it clean. I wash mine thoroughly twice a week. I also add a few drops of bleach during the cleaning process to sanitize it, then rinse well. If you don't do this the plastic that the fountain is made of will get slimy and the water will have fur, hair, litter, etc in it. I also purchased the set of cleaning brushes available for this fountain. They really help with the cleaning. #3 You should change the filter every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on how many pets you have using it. The more pets, the more often you will need to change the filter. Make sure to rinse the new filters under water before placing in the fountain to rinse off any excess charcoal. #4 Make sure the water reservoir is kept full. It can also make noise if the water is not full. I keep several other water bowls around the house just in case the Drinkwell should go out unexpectedly, which frankly I expected to have happened by now, but so far so good. You never know how long these type of things are going to last, altho I was very encouraged when I read another reviewer who said theirs is 4 years old! Overall this has been a great purchase for our household and I would replace it if I needed to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for our two cats! This fountain has been such a huge help when we've had to travel and leave our kitties behind. It is quiet, works great, and our two cats enjoy drinking from moving water like this. Prior to this one, we had a different fountain that was quite noisy and the cats would have nothing to do with it, so we got rid of it. If you have this fountain and it makes noise, perhaps you need to make sure you have everything assembled correctly, or place it on a mat of some kind - maybe it's an acoustical problem. Our computer makes more running noise than this fountain. My only complaint is the the price is kind of high, given you have to buy replacement charcoal filters. But the "pros" outweigh the price/filter issue. We have freedom to travel for a couple of days here and there, without having someone check on our cats and change their water. We've had this fountain for about 4 yrs. with no problems. I just bought a back-up "Platinum" fountain for the day when our first one stops working - that's how much we rely on it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the $ I bought this for 3 boxers. Not good. Noisy. Messy. VERY CHEAPLY made. I was disappointed when I opened the box. Even more disappointed after I hooked it up. It went back. :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flawed I purchased 2 fountains for my 7 cats to have access to water in our 110• heat. For some reason the reservoir continually releases water so that the fountain overflows and the reservoir empties in a matter of minutes. This is a definite design flaw that needs correction. I would not recommend this to anyone until the problem has been corrected.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Smaller than depicted ~ This fountain is junk ! Haven't had it a month and unfortunately hubby threw away the box or it would be returned. The plastic water tank is brittle plastic and it cracked already. Waste of money and cheaply made. I regret this purchase more than I can say.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Investment I have 2 small dogs and 1 cat. All three use it. At first they had to get used to the noise of the air bubbles when they drink (lower the water level) and the bowl refills. Now everyone is happy. I typically have to fill it every 3 or 4 days. Nice!
