Don't spend another summer swatting at fruit flies. Send those pesky, persistent insects away by first drawing them in. How? Create the liquid recipe that's provided with this cute, fruit-shaped glass trap. It calls for simple, everyday household ingredients. A little bit of the liquid in the trap draws the fruit flies in, and doesn't let them fly out. From Plow & Hearth.

Plow & Hearth Glass Fruit Fly Trap is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 51.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pretty But Ineffective It doesn't attract flies. I had much better luck using a Ball jar with the same mixture of apple cider vinegar, water, and dishwashing liquid. However, the Ball jar was unsightly on my kitchen window sill. I bought the Plow and Hearth fruit fly trap because it's more attractive than the Ball jar, but it doesn't work. Flies don't enter from the bottom with the stopper in place, so I removed the stopper in the hopes that they would enter through the top. They didn't. I had to go back to the Ball jar, which has caught more flies in a day than the Plow and Hearth flytrap did in a week.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ehh not so much I gave it a one star because it does look nice sitting on my counter. I have had it a good week with the prescribed liquid inside and the fruit flies buzzing all around it. I even purchased the natural non filtered vinegar mentioned in the demo. A big waste of money in my opinion.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not work This did not work for me at all. I went back to using those little plastic fruit fly traps Bc they work. This was decorative but that's it, did not catch any fruit flies.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from TV demo contradicts written instructions This is a beautiful piece of glass. For that I give it 2 stars. As functional I would not give it even one. The host or person demonstrating it should read the directions. She says on TV: put about a tablespoon of liquid in the reservoir. That's 15cc. The directions say put in an ounce. That's 30 cc's. Following the manufacturer instructions it created a sticky mess because it overflowed all over the place. Even with only a tablespoon, trying to set it in place without spilling it is nearly impossible. As a decorative knick knack it's very nice. As a means of keeping gnats away, it's worthless. I don't need another knick knack, it's going back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Caught the Little Devils! This worked better than the jar I was using with the vinegar and dish detergent. It's because of the design. The little pests, for some reason, liked crawling into the hole at the bottom rather than the top of a jar. I used rice wine vinegar (I didn't have apple cider vinegar) and the detergent and I caught 10 in one day! I also let the soils of my plants dry out to kill the larvae. If I over water my plants, they will be back. I wouldn't give it as a gift. It might be taken the wrong way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed! Wow, I cannot believe how beautiful this pineapple is. I live in South Carolina, so the symbol for hospitality is the pineapple. Also, I am an avid plant lover, thus I will end up with those little tiny bugs sometime during the year. This was an answer to both my prayers. I placed it on my kitchen's window sill and the sun hits it just right, so it almost glows. Thank you QVC and Plow and Hearth for a pretty and functional piece of art!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Use as kitchen decoration where lights shines thru This is my fourth one. I have the Pumpkin, Pear, Pineapple here and apple on order. Got the peach. Do not use for fruit flies, but these are really pretty and I enjoy glass with natural light shining through. Only thing, my previous ones, the stopper would not stay in - had to put tape around stoppers. Hope the newer ones have a plastic/rubber stopper cover so stopper does not fall out.
