Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fair value I recently became enamored with Ethiopian opals. I have collected a few of them already, and love to view how their matrix formation affects the color play. At 40% off the usual price, I knew I was buying this item, mainly for the size of the stone in a 14k setting, and reigned in my expectations of quality. Looking at the stone, is akin to viewing a painting made with thick angular brush strokes, randomly meeting at different points in the stone. The long 'lines' affect how well the stone lights up (certain angles of viewing, I'll see only a reddish milky/murky color). If seen slightly from the side, I'll see the spectrum of greens, oranges, yellows and reds. There is color in this stone, and it seems to respond best to a lower light level, vs. bright sunlight. I like the simple encirclement of the opal, by the baguette zircons-- even if a few are very slightly included. The design is simple and tasteful, IMHO. My opal isn't symmetrical; from a sideways view of the length of the stone, I can see a slight gradient, where one end is nominally thicker than the other. I, too, wondered why a solid backing was put underneath the stone, that would interfere with the eventual cleaning of the ring, and possibly affect the color play. The band is roughly 4 mm at the thickest (nearer to the zircons), slimming down to 2 mm, on the bottom. Since each opal is unique and the stone shape has some variability, I'm sure someone else's experience would be different, with this offering. I suspect the quality is just too inconsistent to really give someone reading a review a good idea-- you'd just have to take a chance, and decide for yourself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A beauty. I love this ring and the fact that it is gold makes it special to me. I love the baguette zircons. Mine sparkle as much as the diamond baquettes in my wedding ring. They are all set nicely as well--unlike a ring that someone else received. My opal is magical and glows every bit as any on the presentation. I love that it really shows its colors even in the dark. Kind of cool. When you get in the sun it is eye-catching because it does have all the flashes of color--less so on blue. Still, it's there. I debated giving this a four star because the pictures don't show it but my ring at least, sits above the solid gold backing, in otherwords, the stone is shallow and not thick and in an attempt to make it look thick, the stone setter put the stone up ABOVE the solid gold backing. I don't know if all the rings have this problem, but mine does. Now that scares me because I worry about how to get in there to clean it since you can't use sonic cleaners and there is no way a pipe cleaner or small brush can get in through the design. This actually made me think seriously about sending the ring back. Still, it is a stunner. I just wish the stone weren't so shallow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just As Pictured ! I was fortunate to receive a truly magnificent stone...and I notice there are no recent reviews of this ring, so thought to write. Received my ring yesterday (special delivery/2 day shipping) and I am delighted that I went ahead to buy it! It is really beautiful and the stone and ring quality are excellent. I hope others who purchase this item during this showing get the beautiful ring that i received! I am very happy with it!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Brilliant Opal The opal in my ring is brilliant with colors. Green, blue, red, yellow and orange depending on the lighting. Stone size is generous for the price, but my stone is not symmetrical which really bothers me. The setting is solid and complimentary to the opal. The white zircon are not set smoothly, nor do they sparkle and shine like the ring used for the presentation. Overall I would not recommend to a friend without a disclaimer with regard to the imperfections. I'm struggling with exchanging for another ring to compare the construction in the hope of receiving a "better" ring or returning for refund. Unfortunately I fear the next ring may be less than perfect as well.
