Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these Bought five of these and gave away three as gifts. With 8 D batteries this is a bright, bright lantern and is needed during any electrical outage. Have the bigger Coleman lantern and this is a wonderful size.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy for power outages We bought this for power outages. The problem is that the four panel lights constantly suck power from the installed D cells to stay charged. Result: No power at all when you really need it. Replacing eight D cells regularly is expensive, but if you don't, you have no reliable light source. Camping use, maybe. Emergency use, NO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very bright This is super bright. The 4 stations did charge, once I put new batteries in, straight from the package. I had put batteries from a drawer in previously, and the 4 removable lights did not work. Customer service from Coleman responded to my email question by the next day. I have given to my child away at college for use in an emergency.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not cost efficient During the show, didnt realaize how many batteries were needed, that each panel also needed batteries. Another $30+ for many batteries. Disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Go with Rechargeable Instead The quality of this item, compared to other Coleman lanterns that I own, is not as good. Regardless of that, the presentation on TV doesn’t mention that you need 3 AAA batteries for each removeable lantern. For a total of 12. Plus - 8, D batteries for the base. 20 Batteries! Think of how much that will cost in the end. Go with rechargeable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can be upgraded The alkaline Dcells are wired in 2 parallel strings of 4 batteries. I replaced them with NiMH recharagables, wired to a waterproof charging port I added near the base. I bought a high-current 4-cell external NiMH battery charger to plug in to the port, and now I have a proper rechargable lantern. It should have come this way from the factory, but it was an easy upgrade.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyers Beware I bought this product because of the reviews that I read on the Qvc site and I have to say I am very disappointed. My family and I did not have to use it during the first hurricane because our area was not affected by the weather. However we were impacted by the tropical storm and lost power for two days. I decided to use the lamp upon returning home from work to cook dimmer. The first thing that happened is one of the lamps won't light up at all. Secondly the others would come on very bright when we turned it on then will dim out. I had to visit my grocery store and pick up candles in order to have adequate light in the house. Fortunately, my power came on 3 hours after the debacle with this product. My recommendation; RUN don't buy it because it does not work and suggested.
