Below are descriptions of eight of the areas where QVC employs talented people in broadcasting, plus a list of the state of the art equipment we use as we produce more "live" television than just about anyone.
Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 364 days a year are live. Our digital facility, Studio Park, has over 37,000 square feet of studio space spread over 10 different studios. The entire broadcasting facility is over 160,000 square feet.
Our diverse team of broadcasting professionals utilizes their skills working on a variety of projects. It's something new and exciting every day. As the undisputed leader in electronic retailing, we combine the latest and greatest technology with an energized and entrepreneurial spirit. We innovate on a daily basis.
QVC is the virtual shopping mall that never closes. A place where customers can, and do, shop at any hour—at the rate of two customers per second. A broadcast operation that's brimming with state-of-the-art technology, cutting-edge ideas, and think-on-their feet people.
We offer nearly 1,700 products each week, and our sets need to be the perfect home for guests. The Broadcast Design group designs, builds, and props all sets, making sure everything looks perfect and our house set looks like a realistic home. This group also includes our in-house scene shop, which is a fully functional carpentry shop where most of our on-air sets are built by our Production Artisans. Set Dressers create, reproduce, and execute all established on-air scenic and prop looks that best support our product sells.
The quality and value of what we offer has to be seen to be believed. Therefore, superior lighting is essential on our sets. This group handles all aspects of lighting techniques—like special requests from on-air guests or producers and repairing problems that may arise during the live show. Lighting Engineers design, construct, test, and document new system installations. Lighting Directors provide artistic work direction and technical expertise to other lighting technicians. Lighting Assistants perform various duties to support the Lighting Directors and ever-evolving lighting design.
Only QVC offers the kind of environment where what you're working on every hour is different...and every minute, those results can be seen and heard by millions of people. Our Control Room team of Director/TD, Assistant Director, Graphics, Audio, and Camera Operators produces a wide variety of programming, from Fashion and Jewelry to Electronics, Cooking, and Housewares. Every show is live and several are produced in front of an audience. Be part of the team that constantly raises the production bar, while supporting sales.
The "QVC Local" crew takes our viewers on location, offering armchair journeys to exciting locales, compelling guests, and unique products. Using our own production fleet, our remote team travels the United States, and internationally, producing a wide variety of programming.
Positions include: Producer, Associate Producer, EFP Producer & Videographer, Unit Production Manager, Editor, Production Coordinator, Audio Technician, Lighting Director, and Fleet Driver..
With only 24 hours in a day, there's no time to expect less than the best from our Broadcast Engineers. They provide support for our live show and troubleshoot equipment and system problems. They also thrive on the challenge of maintaining the infrastructure of an entire broadcast system that never takes any breaks. Because quality is not just a word for our products, we're constantly giving our engineers the opportunity to upgrade their skills through internal and external training classes.
Chances are, you're not watching TV exactly the same way you were five years ago. (If you're watching it on something you built yourself, we definitely want to talk to you!). Technology is constantly changing, and we remain at the forefront of those changes, thanks to our Research & Development team. As they research equipment and systems, our Project Engineers plan and integrate most of these projects in-house. From servers to virtual sets to HDTV, they ensure we have the right equipment to keep expanding our business.
When the "On Air" light is on (which is, after all, 24 hours a day), strategy is in the hands of the Line Producers, the keys to proper execution of all sales strategies during the live show. Working with our Production and Product Planning groups, the Line Producers are responsible for managing every second of the live program in an effort to maximize sales.
On the studio floor, it's the Coordinating Producers who handle sales execution, working face to face with vendors and on-air guests, and coordinating product demonstrations with vendors to ensure they meet our standards.
Until our customers can hold our products in their hands and see how great they are, they need to see them in the best light. Our Product Display Stylists record product display shots used during the live show. Each stylist is responsible for the composition and quality of each shot. The Digital Imaging group captures digital images for use on QVC.com and other interactive projects.
Every show we do has a certain style and look, and that's no accident. The Talent department works to find appropriate on-air models who meet our brand and image. The Talent Resource Management department is responsible for scheduling the models used on air, in promos, and product demonstration tapes. The Fashion Coordinators provide direct supervision in all aspects of live production to the models. The Image department also manages the hair & makeup stylists and our in-house salon used by program hosts and guests.
We want our guests and vendors to feel as comfortable in our studio as customers feel watching QVC from their living rooms. As the meeting and communication hub for the live show, the Talent Service Center is the "heart" of the studio home. Talent Service Coordinators are the "go to" people, disseminating pertinent live show information to the appropriate broadcasting team members, and providing specific support to the guests and hosts from their time of arrival in the studio, through their informational prep and salon time, to the moment when they're microphoned and step on air.
As we try to produce the perfect picture of our products, our Floor Managers are the eyes and ears of the control room on the studio floor. Things must go smoothly to keep the focus where it should be: on our great products. They're in charge of the flow of production on the floor during the live show, which includes ensuring smooth transitions between stage positions and shows, coordinating camera movement and camera blocking, and participating in pre-production meetings to make sure production objectives are met. Studio Assistants support the hosts during the live show. They assist with production strategies on the studio floor, preparing product demonstrations and assisting the Floor Managers.
If we don't have it on hand, we don't put it in our customers' hands. Working with our four distribution centers—our on-site storage facility—Product Central ensures we have product samples that meet our standards. This group is responsible for inventory and supply chain management for studio production. Product Coordinators pull and prepare products for use on air.
Providing a rich and engaging content experience, this award-wining team of Writer Producers, Associate Producers, Videographers, and Editors is instrumental in creating content that delivers the creative vision across all platforms. From concept to completion, this collaborative team embodies creativity, and produces targeted and compelling content—including promos, product demos, episodic shows, and segments—to support TV programming and initiatives on web and social platforms. Working with state-of-the art equipment & creative ingenuity, the Production and Post-Production teams challenge themselves to define and create the right content for the right platform.
24 hours of live broadcasting a day gives our award-winning Graphic Designers countless opportunities to collaborate with other production personnel regarding video content and on-air graphics. Utilizing their diverse skills, they provide creative solutions through visual storytelling across multiple platforms; including TV, web, and social. Exhibiting their unique problem-solving abilities, they create a variety of content including 2-D and 3-D animations and other elements to support on-air promotions, themed events, remote broadcasts, and product demonstrations.
Comprised of highly creative Photographers, Videographers, Content Stylists, and Production Artists, this world-class still photography and video production studio supports all platforms, including our live broadcast and website, by capturing product videos and still images in tabletop and lifestyle settings. Working both in studio and on location, this team continuously looks for innovative ways of creating content to clearly represent the products we sell, capturing and treating hundreds of images per day while utilizing the latest technologies to support QVC's ever-evolving business needs.
