I expected something special, not at all worth the price. Does not take good pictures the only mode that you can get 20mp is in P. Very poor quality pictures. Well back it goes. Setting are not at all easy to use somewhat confusing and not much of a choice in modes. I had been wanting to try this camera for sometime, I have a Sony which is much easier to use and better quality pictures. First time canon buyer and will not really look at to many others if this is an example of picture quality. There should be a setting for 20mp that works with all setting not just P. Did not try video, it will be going back today.

This camera is amazing! I traveled to Southeast Asia for 5 months and wanted something more compact that could still take beautiful photographs. All of my photos turned out wonderful and everything is very clear. I love this camera!

I bought this camera at Best By in mid October, 2015. I take thousands and thousands of nature/scenery pictures. This camera will not take sharp pictures, the light is never correct. I try every setting. I go back to default and try again. I have never taken a shot that is right with this camera.. How can all of the other reviews say it is so great. I take pictures of swans swimming in the middle of a lake, the pixels do not record correctly. When I use AUTO, the light is never correct, it always gets too dark. My wish is to accidentally drop this expensive piece of junk into a garbage dump.

Good camera except don't like flash is automatic. Have to manually open.

I've had a SX-700 (essentially the same camera) for well over a year. I walk and hike a lot and got tired of lugging a large, heavy super-zoom camera, so I bought this on a whim and it is exactly what I needed. I've taken thousands of photos and a few videos. I've begun taking hand-held night shots of lighted buildings, fountains, etc. and if I'm careful the results are impressive.

Great options and the 30x lens is very useful... Used the camera with tripod to take the Lunar Eclipse on 9/27/15 and the results we impressive for the lens and operating system of the camera.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Tretchie Missing Features
I've owned and used Canon pocket cameras (SX Series) since the SX210 and I currently own an SX280. I would like to upgrade to this one, but it lacks a few critical features that are important to me in a modern camera: I would like to shoot RAW without having to purchase a bulky DSLR or crossover. 4K video shooting is available now on my smartphone! (Why not on a camera like this?) I would of course prefer Image stabilization if 4K were to be implemented in a future model. Lastly, I have always disliked the flash that wants to pop-up where I like to grip the camera. Please put it in the center, Canon!
Oh, and please refine variable speed zoom (the harder I press the quicker should be the zoom and vice-versa) and keep that zoom motor quite while shooting video!
Thank you for listening!

This is the best small camera I have ever had! The picture are beautiful. I recommend to anyone!!!!
Rated 3 out of 5 by Nate Great zoom, software features are spotty
This camera has an excellent zoom lens, and takes good pictures as long as it's bright enough.
It starts up and shuts down really fast and seems to have really good battery life.
Screen in not a touch screen - not sure why they skimped on that. it makes it much more difficult to navigate the menu and view your pictures
There is no panorama mode - I have no idea why they would leave that out
The wifi features are limited, I was expecting functionality like my 70D where I can post to web services right from the camera... but no, you can't
You can only pair with a single device - not at all easy to switch between tablets, phones, and your laptop - again, makes this functionality of limited value when it was one of the main reasons I purchased it.
A couple of the shooting modes they do give on the dial are really gimmicky
You have to pop up the flash manually, and you would think that if you do pop up the flash, it would fire it, sadly it does not always fire, it's still automatically determining if it thinks there's enough light so it may or may not use the flash - If I pop it up, I want it to flash. I really hate this behavior

I have an SX710HS and I'm still learning it's features. So far, so good.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Concert goer Great Camera
So I got this camera about a month ago and I absolutely love it. I purchased this camera as I was going to be attending a concert and I've always wanted some great photos and video that weren't just from my iPhone. I'm very glad I picked this camera, it's super user-friendly coming from someone who isn't a photography pro. But the pictures I did end up getting looked pro, I'm actually thinking about selling them, they came out that good. The video was great too, focused when I wanted it to, but of course lighting at concerts can either work with you or against you so it was a matter of timing. And it's perfect to bring along with you wherever, starts up fast and isn't bulky at all. If you're looking to invest a little more on a camera, this one is for you! You're getting your money's worth. This is my first Canon purchase, although my family have used them for as long as I can remember. I'm sure I'll be purchasing another Canon in the future.

Absolutely love this camera. We have an EOS 20D purchased 10 years ago when we purchased an RV. It takes fantastic photos. We followed that purchase with a Rebel TI3, also a very good camera.
I am doing my bucket list and traveling in Europe. Did not want a heavy camera to carry, but rather one I could put in my pocket and still get great telephoto pics. The trip was wonderful and I have put together several photo books from the great photos this little camera produced. The books have received rave reviews at our community art show this year.
At the Art Show, a neighbor saw the books and other photos from other Cannon Cameras, and asked me to photograph an Academy Award Night party she was having. The party photos using this little camera, came out very well also. All the woman attending admired how nicely their photos came out.
I will say that this is not a camera for "action" photos. My two small toddler grand children's photos do not come out so well as they are rapidly moving targets. The camera is best for taking landscape, flowers, wading birds, European sites such as churches and buildings. Fantastic for those uses and can be kept in your raincoat or jacket pocket very easily.
