tarte LipSurgence Lip Shine Pencil Duo with Sharpener
Love the colors love the product! Nice and shinny and soft a
I thought it would give color but it really doesn't. I did find if I first put on my tarte lip stain then apply this over it gives a very nice affect. I like it. Just not what I thought it was.
I liked the Lip Shine Pencil I tried in a Tarte TSV some months back, although the "pink" color was more of a warm, pale shade than I was expecting. As some reviewers have noted, there are drawbacks with this delivery system. The lip product is very creamy and emollient, but this makes it hard to sharpen unless you store it in the refrigerator. You lose a lot of product, and the wood curls you shave off of it get stuck in the product.
When I saw this duo, though, I was willing to brave those problems because one of the pencils was supposed to be pink. I have been trying Tarte's various lip products for years in hopes of finding the right pink for my skin tone--a cool-toned (blue undertone) pink. The only pinks Tarte offers with any blue tone to them are too dark and/or way too bright, and I could not wear them. All of Tarte's pinks are warm-toned; I have not found any exceptions to date. I saw the video of this set, and the Flirty shade looked like a real pink. When it arrived, though, I could see it was not. It's more of a pale brick/coral, and the other shade is a nude. There is no way I would mistake either of them for any shade of pink. They are misnamed. I feel like sending Tarte a photograph of what a REAL pink looks like.
I am so disappointed to once again get stuck either keeping or paying to return a product that was not as advertised. This will probably be the last time I buy a Tarte lip product. I've tried them all and none of them are the right shade of pink. An even bigger problem for me is that Tarte seems fixated on making products for people with warm skin tones. As much as I love the quality of Tarte products, I really hate the fact that it's so difficult to find color cosmetics in that line that work for me. Frankly, I feel there is really just no excuse for any cosmetics company to cater solely to a specific skin tone and leave out all the rest. I am massively annoyed at having to pay return postage on this item, as I ordered it in good faith. If you look good in warm tones, you may like it. If not, just don't even bother.
Where's the color? Not on either!
Had to apply six times before even got hint of color. Not at all the vibrant color shown on tv! Would return by return label fee is so high will put in my car to use when desperate for just hint of color. So disappointed.
Please make more colors available!
Colors are pretty and stay long while moisturizing. I like it even better than regular lip surgence. I would like it to be screw-up (so that I won't waste the product). Another winner from Tarte. I'm sold on eveything Tarte offers -- GREAT cosmetic brand !!!!!!!!!!!
This was Awful
Although the colors were pretty, I had to use a lot to get any real color on my lips. Therefore, the pre-sharpened lip gloss got used up quickly and I needed to sharpen it the first day I received and used this. After sharpening (and sharpening and sharpening)....trying to get somewhat of a lipstick tip that the pencil had when I received them, that was impossible. So after all that sharpening, the wood from the pencil was in pieces. There were sharp shards of wood sticking up when I tried to apply it again. It was practically like giving myself splinters on my lips. I got so frustrated that I just threw them in the garbage. I'll go back to buying the twist-up crayons. This was a total waste of money.
Love the Product. Hate the Pencil
Love, Love, Love the product. Great colors and some staining properties.
Hate, Hate , Hate the delivery system. What a pain to sharpen the pencil. Messy. Pieces of wood get int the product, and rough edges from the sharpening rub on your lips.
If it has to be in a wooden pencil, what about a tear strip like a wax pencil? That might work better.
I was so excited about this pencil. I am not a gloss fan so I was excited that this product would provide color and a little shine. Unfortunately within 90 minutes of application (and I did not eat or drink) there was no shine or color on my lips. Major bummer. Returning . . .
Loved the colors, but...
Love Lip Surgence, great colors, but, in this set I can't make the lip color extend. The knob will not turn. I've just placed an order for another set hoping the defective set I have is a fluke. If not, back they'll go. I have other Lip Surgence pencils and they work properly. I would have sent this set back for exchange, but, having loved the colors, I destroyed the original packaging.
Sharpener is wasteful
At first I loved this product. Then, I had to sharpen it. It seemed like half my pencil was gone afterwords. Turned into a poor value for me. I like the formula, but not the sharpening. I would not buy again in its current form.
Quick,easy, and shiny!
Bought these as an impulse and I am so glad I did! I love both colors. The pink isn't too pink and the peach doesn't look like a bandaid. As for the consistency, I'm pleased, too. They are shiny and then, as they wear, they leave a nice stained lip look.
Really nice colors
I purchassed these on a whim when I saw the presentation and was impressed with the colors and shine. Those have not disappointed. In fact, the pink is more of a stain. I put it on in the morning and my lips have color that lasts throughout the day! They're moist, not sticky and go on like a breeze. And both colors work with my fair complexion and blonde hair. My only complaint is that there's a fair amount of waste when you sharpen them. Because it doesn't last as long (and because I actually prefer the color), the 'peach' is about 3/4" shorter than the pink after just two weeks. The fact that they come with their own sharpener is great for portability and they were wonderful space saving options for a recent trip. But they do flatten out and it takes a decent amount of sharpening to expose the right amount of product for application.
I'll probably be ordering these again, though I'd like to be able to just get one rather than the pair.
