tarte Colored Clay 7-Pc Collection with Bag
I was really looking forward to trying especially the foundation. It was such heavy obvious coverage and seemed to dry out my skin. I had high hopes for this foundation. Didn't like the blush color on me either. Had to return.
Fantastic Value-Quality Products
I've been wearing makeup for over 40 years and try just about everything - cheap, expensive, doesn't matter. I have tried Tarte before in a limited fashion but saw this kit while channel surfing. What a fantastic bargin! If you only like 3 products, it would be worth it. IMO, the brush alone is almost worth the price. Love it for under eye cream/highlighter. Several reviewers complain about the yellow tone of the foundation. Lucky for me, that is okay. The next best product in the kit is the bronzer/blush. I am new to the sculpting/highlighting phase of make up application and this bronzer/blush is just beautiful! Their mascara is wonderful, the lip gloss is very nice and the foundation is of a high quality. Can't go wrong with this kit!
On the Fence About this Kit
Some of the products I liked, some I did not. I liked the primer, silky smooth application and somewhat yellow undertone which worked for some ruddiness on my face. The foundation was okay, but I did not get anywhere near the coverage demonstrated on the models. Why the brush for application? When I used it I just couldn't get natural coverage - it deposited huge amounts of makeup on my face. Unfortunately, after about a week, I also realized my face was breaking out in tiny little bumps (from the makeup - not the brush).
A choice of eyeliner would be nice - I wear brown, not black, so will probably give to my daughter. It did glide on easily, tho. I also found the mascara just did nothing for my lashes - no length, no thickening. I have other brands that are better.
I liked the blush, but had to use my own applicator brush. The lip gloss was pretty and wearable.
The makeup bag? Just a flimsy, cheap little fabric bag. Has no structure. No need to include it.
I purchased this kit on auto-delivery, but will probably cancel.
Good but not great - left something to be desired
I bought the "light" kit and used all products everday for a few weeks. I love the consistency of the CC Primer it's like silk on the skin but the color was too dark with a hint of orange hue. The concept of the liquid foundation in the screen pot was unique but getting the right amount on the brush was a hassle & took too much time. I either dipped too much or not enough. The brush was great but not for all over application. The Pink Bronze blush was a bit dark for a "light" woman in winter but probably pretty in the summer and it did glide beautifully on the skin. The Lip Gloss color was pretty but it didn't have staying power - disappointed. The eyeliner was OK, I liked its very thin line but by mid morning it travel up my eye lids & by mid day it was nearly gone. I've never been a fan of Tarte's "Camera Lashes" mascara. The brush is too thick, I get mascara spickles on my lids, the wand doesn't roll easily in your fingers, AND it's a MESS to take off and even after much eye make up remover I still wake up looking like a raccoon and have to use a Q-tip to remove it from my lower lash line. Running late this morning for work, I reached for my "IT Cosmetics" bag (Bye Bye under eye; CC cream/foundation; highlighter) and quickly did my make up and later in the day still liked how I looked and that's when I decided to return the Tarte kit.
Love this foundation!
This kit is worth the price of admission for the foundation, brush and mascara alone. I have been using these products for about three weeks now and I have had people just stop and stare at me. I have had so many complements, which is amazing since I just turned 46. People have told me that I look 'fresh', 'flawless', 'have perfect skin' and 'have no pores'.
The foundation has great coverage without feeling heavy or looking like a mask. It is a huge concern to me that I'm not putting nasty chemicals on my skin. However, I want results. As usual, Tarte delivers what it promises - high performance naturals!
Keep up the great work Maureen and never give up on naturals!!!!!
I thought this kit was just "okay". In particular, I really wanted the Color Corrector to work, but it was way too dark for my light skin tone (and I ordered the kit in the light). I also thought the blush/bronzer was nothing special, and I will stick with my Laura Geller for brightening and contouring.
Sorry Maureen but this kit is terrible. The CC primer was the worst thing ever - the color was not made of clay but MUD like. In addition, the foundation did not lay down nicely at all. The bronzer/blush is ridiculous. How anyone could like that is truly beyond imagination. It was way too dark to be considered a blush and weird as a bronzer. All in all, the mascara was the only thing half way decent. I think there is so much pressure to invent something/anything new that the companies try to reinvent the wheel. We pay the price by believing the hype. When they use models for presentations how about a totally clean face and apply SOMETHING, ANYTHING live - rather than adding a tiny amount over a "premadeup" face? I wonder if the models are actually wearing that product at all or do the professional make up artists add other things because truly I do not see how ANYONE would look good with these products on their face. I should stick to the tried and true products as it is a shame how much return postage I dish out in a year.
Complete Makeup Kit
I was so excited to get this product. This has everything I could want for my skin. I tend to be a little on the uneven/red side due to my rosacea. I felt the coverage was pretty good and evened out my skin. I felt like a teenager putting on all these new, fun products. The brushes are amazing!!
I have other Tarte products I like, and it is hugely important to me to buy cruelty-free products (I wish QVC would state which products have animal-free ingredients and are cruelty-free. I don't want to put little dead animal parts on my face or try to look better at the expense of pain and suffering of animals.) I just cancelled the auto-delivery since these aren't great. The foundation is mask-like, highlights every wrinkle...awful. The lipgloss is pretty, but the color is gone within the hour, the bag is a silly, thin thing...worthless. The mascara is good, the blush and brush are nice, eyeliner's ok, so I didn't return it, but they're really not worth the price of this package. Disappointed in Tarte.
I have generally been pleased with Tarte products whether from QVC or retail.
Thought this would be a good kit for my needs. I was surprised how lacking
the products are. I do like the mascara, liner a little hard to work with. The
items just do not work for me and not worth keeping for one or two items.
Primer does not do much,, foundation too "yellow"- and watery, settled into my wrinkles. Bronzer really in light tones and does not perform as my experience
with other brand bronzers.
The lip gloss the worse--not a nice color, very sticky, and too much
sparkle--more for a teen or young adult. Other than the mascara the balance of the
kit As I said not worth keeping for one or two items.
Love this kit, from a long time tarte fan
I have been wearing tarte for years and it's pretty much the only foundation and blush I use anymore. I usually wear the Amazonian Clay foundation with SPF 15 so I was excited to try the new clay foundation. Overall I love this kit and think it's a great collection from tarte.
The CC Primer - I ordered this kit in light, being somewhere between fair and light in other tarte foundations. The light primer was much too dark for me but I liked the formula so I bought the fair from a local retailer. The fair goes on dark looking but when I blend it out it looks perfect. I love the way it smooths my skin and reduces pores while correcting my pink undertones. It's great for days when I want something quick without fully applying foundation. I rub it in circular motions over my forehead, cheeks, and chin and even it out with my fingers. I do find it makes me a bit oily looking after a full day (due to the silicone), so I suggest setting it with a powder. Very very sheer coverage, so don't expect any concealing qualities with this.
The foundation - it is a bit yellower and darker than I was expecting, but if I apply it lightly with the brush it blends in beautifully. I do wish it came in a fair-light shade which would be perfect, but it should be fine in the summer when I have a light tan. Easily fills in pores and fine lines and provides a lovely slightly dewy finish. The coverage I would say is medium - I still need to use concealer for red marks.
The brush - LOVE! The perfect size and shape for applying foundation. I also have the airbrush finish brush that comes with their Amazonian Clay foundation which I also love, but it's quite large and hard to get around the nose and eyes with. This smaller brush is perfect for reaching those smaller areas. It's very soft and well made and doesn't pick up too much product. I do run my BE featherlight brush over my face after application just to smooth it all out.
Mascara - It's not going to give you giant in-your-face lashes, but it's great for a more muted everyday mascara. It's also easy to layer without clumping, and it does not flake or smudge on me.
Liner - have not tried because I already have 3 open black liners.
Blush - I actually love this a lot more than I expected. I am a huge fan of their Amazonian clay blushes already and this formula is very similar. I really like that it's blush and bronzer in one, so quick and easy to apply for a nice glow. The shade works well with my skin to perk me up without looking over done. Easy to build up and has a nice natural sheen without being glittery.
Lipgloss - I like the formula, it's not too sticky or tacky. Very nice brighter spring color with one swipe but fine to layer for more punch. I have seen complaints about the wand but I actually like it - it's a little bendy and conforms to my lips for proper application. Wear time is so-so, but I don't expect long time wear from any gloss.
Bag - Cheaply made, much too large, and flimsy. It's just sitting in my cabinet. I have always loved the bags that came with other tarte kits so I was surprised at the lower quality of this one, but I like the other products so much that it's not a big deal.
Overall - Great set and happy I am on Auto Delivery for the future shipments. I'm debating switching to Fair for future shipments because I think the foundation will last longer than the CC primer, so I would rather have the correct color in that for next time and save the fair foundation for next winter when I am pale.
Ehh... From A Tarte Lover
I love tarte... that said I didn't love all these products.
Things I liked:
Blush- I really like the color On ME. I realize this is personal. I'm platinum blonde/green eyes, with fair skin and yellow undertones.
Foundation brush:awesome!!!! A great size for control of product.
Foundation- it's a nice feeling consistency and initially the coverage is great. My color also matched well, but I felt like it it moved around on my face and after awhile gathered in unwanted areas.
Mascara- it's not bad, but I prefer Mally's.
Liner-its not my color so I gave it away.
Didn't care for:
CC stick: First of all it was darker than the foundation (light option). It read a little orange on my skin. I also didn't see any color correction for my skin tone.
Bag-not even worth mentioning.
