Roberta's 8-piece Jumbo Begonia Collection w/Fertilizer
BAD BULBS DIDN'T GROW
I have grown Begonia plants in my hanging baskets & porch rail planters for 20 years. I buy some new ones from the local stores every year that are already in pots & blooming, & I grow my own year after year after they've been wintered over in my garage. I think I have some experience in this department. I ordered this set of bulbs a year ago & received them in May, which is very late for getting them started in pots inside. I am in zone 5 in southwestern PA so they can't go outside until the end of May. They should be started in their pots in March & be very well established by the end of May & getting ready to bloom in June. These bulbs were so tiny, not like the ones in the video. A couple were actually rotten, & a couple were flat with no body to them to grow. Only one grew. I called QVC & received a refund for the whole order. I was so disappointed because I really wanted those beautiful flowers that are shown in the video.
I purchased these last spring and followed all of the directions for planting. Only one of the bulbs bloomed. I will not purchase them again and do not recommend them to others. Save your money.
Great Plants Love Them
I bought my first set several years ago.Planted them in pots and got a few flowers the first year. They died back after the first frost.I left them outside in same place all winter, spring came and they started sprouting.By late June they started flowering large beautiful flowers growing and blooming till frost.Ive bought two more sets since then-they are doing the same.I set the bulbs on the surface without burying them.I had partially buried a couple of them and those rotted over the winter. The rest come back each year and are huge now and very colorful. They are all across the front porch.People come by all summer to see them and comment on there beauty. Will be getting another set this year.
I love these. I can't wait to get more and also see the ones I have bloom again. All of my neighbors are jealous. I have only partial to no sun and these are great.
i ordered this product after watching a presentation last winter. the plants looked gorgeous and i could not wait to get them. i live in miami and the chart indicated they would do fine in my "zone". i am an experienced gardener. had to wait several minths for bulbs to be mailed out. they arrived at tail end of optimal growing season in south florida ( may ). all took well and sprouted rapidly. but as soon as the weather got very hot and humid, they began to fail, one after another. supplier sent replacements but they had no chance arriving in august.
i would NOT recommend these to anyone living in south florida, regardless of what seller's zone map says.
Really BIG and pretty when they bloomed...
Received my 8 bulbs in proper time for my time Zone of NNY....planted per directions and waited....and waited....and waited....one peeked thru.....week plus went by and another peeked thru....both promptly chewed off by some critter....a week more went by and another one peeked thru and 2 that were chewed off started again....so, I covered them with planter pots with air holes in them at night and uncovered for the morning sun....finally after weeks and weeks and feeding Roberta's liquid food, 6 of 8 actually started getting stronger and stronger (with the help of covering at night) until finally the stalks were quite thick and then I saw yellow....all 6 blossomed yellow....I was sad that they were all yellow...the other colors are much more to my liking...seems like the bulbs could have been mixed upon packing....needless to say we are expecting our first frost tonight....reread the directions for winterizing and will pull out of the ground after the flowers & tops have turned black....putting them in peat moss to winter in a non-freezing spot....and replant next year....might just put the six in a big pot next year...IDK right now....I rated them 4 stars for good....thought they would be better but with one year under my belt, maybe next year will be better. They are beautiful blooms and probably would have been a lot bigger if critters hadn't eaten the first stems thru the ground. I wish I could order a certain color....don't want yellow...want red or orange next time.
Only half the plants grew, but what did grow were lovely.
I was so excited about these and they turned out so beautiful..thank you Roberta's for so much enjoyment!
These begonia are exquisite. They are full of blooms and literally fill a large planter with vibrant colors. Begonias are slow to bloom so I started them in my sunroom as I overwintered the bulbs so I had an early start.
Do NOT waste your money on these!!!
I've grown begonias for years and they were beautiful (purchased from a home improvement store for MUCH less money); however, these are terrible!! Only two of the bulbs even sprouted leaves and then immediately died, even though I purchased even more of the over priced fertilizer as well. I repeat, do not waste your money on these!!!
Still waiting to see a bloom. Poor growth. Only green leaves and all did not bloom.
WOW!! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IVE BEEN DISAPPOINTED WITH ROBERTAS!! I HAVE BEEN GROWING BEGONIAS FOR MANY YRS, SO I WAS SO EXCITED TO GET THESE INTO MY COLLECTION!!...BUT!! 1, ONLY 1 BULB TOOK OFF!! 7 DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! 2 OF THE BULBS WERE TOTALLY FLAT ON ARRIVAL,BUT I PLANTED THEM ANYWAYS, THEY DID NOTHING AT ALL! AND THEN I DID WHAT THE INSTRUCTION SAID, I WAITED A WEEK OR SO,AND PULLED THEM OUT AND LOOKED FOR ANY SIGNS OF LIFE..NONE! THEY DID NOTHING, ALL 7 DID NOTHING! ONLY ONE THAT WAS IN THE CENTER OF THE PLANTER,DID ANYTHING! BUT ALL IT DID WAS GROW 3 LARGE LEAVES,THATS IT! I IVE GROWN BEGONIAS FOR MANY YRS,AND LOOKING AT THE 1 THAT GREW LEAVES,ITS NOT GOING TO GET ANY FLOWERS,THERE IS NO SIGNS OF IT DOING ANYTHING ELSE, AND ITS ALREADY INTO AUGUST NOW!! WHAT A HUGE LET DOWN FROM ROBERTAS!!
