Vitamix 5200 Super 64oz Variable Speed Blender w/Dry Container
Used my VitaMix 4 times, when I tried using it the next time it wouldn't chop the items without having to use the tamper tool. Later tried to make a smoothie with the same ingredients as the first 4 times and the same thing happened, the machine wouldn't puree the ingredients without using the tamper again. My old blender worked better than the VitaMix, so I returned it within the first week. Good luck.
BETTER THAN EXPECTED
Im not sure how to stress this point in a positive way - we are foster parents. a substantial amount of kiddos come to us malnourished but are so afraid of fruits and veggies because they grew up on McDonalds or are expecting fast food at every meal. I cannot begin to tell you how difficult it is (now that we are working with Therapeutic Foster kiddos) to get them to put a vegetable in their mouth - even though we KNOW they need the vitamins in their bodies. Since we unpacked and set up our vitamix we have been able to get our 3 kiddos to eat (or drink I should say) bananas, strawberries, yellow squash, spinach, mushrooms, beets, broccoli, green peppers, extra protein, onions, olives, and zucchini - this has all been this week. it is so easy to make spaghetti sauce and hide broccoli in it. Or make a smoothie with the sweet taste of strawberries and hide zucchini. there are no chuncks - unless you want them in there and honestly, I was perplexed at how hot the soup or spaghetti sauce is - far better than a burner for sure. not only would I recommend this product (and yes I know it is spendy) but I would encourage you to buy one. the little dark circles under one of my kiddos eyes are going away, my older kiddo seems to have more energy and doesn't just want to sit around. (and yes, I have lost 2 pounds and didn't even know it until I weighed, while writing this review) SO PLEASE, we have tried the other mixers, blenders, juicers, slicers, dicers, and mixers, please give this one a shot - even though it is spendy, I think you're worth it.... the nutrition you can obtain, far exceeds that of canned or commercial gunk.
Overated. Under performer. Not worth the $$$
Way not worth the price tag. Does no better than a unit 1/5th the price. Have had this unit about a week was super excited with the possibilities. Having used it everyday for multiple tasks I find it does none of the tasks nearly as well as its hype. Unit cavates easy and freeze bridges like any other blender. Blends only the lower third of the craft if you don't consistently plunge it with the tamper. If the tamper get into the center of the mix it causes the unit to loss prime and nothing blends. Sure it would grind concrete but dont expect any less hassle than any other blender. Oh and the first batch of margaritas smoked the units motor. Still runs though. FYI this is the only thing I have ever bought from QVC...probably the last too. Re affirms my suspicion its just over polished "as seen on tv" snake oil. Should have actually seen one of these in person would no have purchased.
OWNED THIS MODEL FOR YEARS!
I have owned this model for over 10 years and love it !!!! Use It every single day more than once a day. It is such a quality appliance....there is a metal gear in base and metal in bottom of blender that fits to metal gear...you can add more food as blending through center plug that can remove from lid . America's Test Kitchen has rated this number one in testing multiple blenders two years in a row...can see on youtube! The competition mentioning the use of the tamper is nothing! In smoothies (sometimes) will need to use to push down ingredients for a second to clear air pocket created by blades and helps to get powerful vortex going like no other blender has and creates the most BLENDED SMOOTH smoothies with NO food bits floating through drink! Of course making a nut butter or ice cream may need some additional pushes with tamper....that is nothing ...trust me...in getting the best quality outcome and with such a quality unit that will probably last you until you want to upgrade to a newer vita mix or color! Their warranty is a long one! I'm only waiting for a new color I can't resist and I'm waiting for the "Q" to also offer the Vita Mix S30 personal blender with the 40 oz container for smaller amounts that also has the personal ""20 oz to go container" ...the footprint and small space this unit takes up is amazing.....all vita mix appliances have heavy round electrical cords with a three prong end....also to last and take the test of time! LOVE LOVE LOVE = VITA MIX!
Worth Every Penny!
Every time the vitamix presentations would come on, no matter which model, I would just sit in awe of what it could do. I finally broke down and purchased it and have not had one ounce of regret. So far, I've made smoothies almost daily, a milkshake, a few frozen alcoholic beverages, guacamole, and peanut butter (just to see it do it). I love how you can take a smoothie recipe from the book and use the basic measurements for liquid, yogurt, fruit and ice but change the type of juice, yogurt and fruit to make literally any flavor. My favorite is an OJ and vanilla yogurt base with strawberries, banana and pineapple. The banana tones down the acidity in the OJ and strawberries; and the pineapple makes it sweeter. The balance is such a smooth flavor and it's perfectly blended so there is never a spot with more of one type of flavor. The ice is never clumpy and the smoothies are perfectly amazingly smooth! I did try to make a frozen coffee without a recipe as a guideline for ice to liquid ratio, and it came out too icy...but I will try again! I LOVE this thing!
Best investment ever
Yes, the price is high. But you pay for quality. I use my vitamix at least 5 times a day. I love it. My family loves it and my waistline loves it. This is far and beyond the best purchase in home appliances I have ever made. The recipes are endless. The vitamix is a pulverizing monster and does exactly what it says it will.
Problems Cleaning It
I will say it makes a decent smoothie. But other brands make them just as well. We made peanut butter chocolate smoothies last night and cleaned according to manufacturer's directions by cleaning within the blender. A bunch of gunk still remained so I cleaned it regularly & it still was not clean. I had to take a soft pad to it & now the blender is scratched & cloudy where I simply tried to clean it. I expect more with a price point so high. I would return it if my window had not expired. I'm getting tired of QVCs high-end prices for sub-par merchandise.
Worth it's weight in gold!
Got this last year as A TSV, After purchasing too many so so blenders. There is no comparison. It is top quality and a breeze to use. The food is so delicious that you can actually taste & smell different flavors. It is also a time saver. Thanks Vitamix. I am a customer for life. Don,t let the price scare you it is worth it especially on easy pay.
Can't live without it!!!
Get over the sticker shock and buy a Vitamix!!! Yes it's expensive but when you get one you will find ways just to use it. This has become something that we use daily in our kitchen. Not only are we able to blend wonderful and healthy smoothies we have found we can make so much more in this machine. The recipes in the box that com with it are great and not crazy things no one would ever make. We make ice cream for our kinds in this and I have started to make butter with it. If the price is just way to much consider a refurbished one on the Vitamix website. The reason we got this particular machine was because of the dry container. Trying to make an effort to live cleaner was hard but the dry container has made it easier. It's easy to clean, is not as load as I thought it would be, and so helpful to have in my kitchen. We did a lot of research and I don't have buyers remorse.
Best decision I made last quarter!
Like many I started the year on a healthier note. My routine included a daily smoothie or juice from the local smoothie bar. Needless to say my wallet and bank account were feeling extremely light. I added up the cost of my new habit and learned that by years end I could purchase FOUR Vitamix blenders, so I took the plunge and purchased this wonderful machine.
To the dismay of my neighbors, I make a smoothie or juice daily. To make juice you need a fine mesh strainer. This machine pulverizes any fruit or vegetable placed in the canister. I haven't made soup yet but have learned to add ice if I don't want warm juice. The machine is so powerful I find that I use the tamper rarely. I have yet to use the dry container as I am waiting until I run out of bread flour before purchasing wheat berries.
The machine isn't as loud as I thought it would be and the ability to place all smoothie ingredients in the canister and blend is very convenient. I also like that there is no chance of the canister leaking since it's all one piece. Clean up can be a breeze as long as you aren't blending fruits (berries) with seeds or adding seeds to what you are blending. I find that I have to hand wash instead of allowing it to self clean after blending strawberries, black berries, raspberries, and flax seeds. Ice and frozen fruits are blended with ease. Smoothies are silky smooth. Making sorbet and whipping frozen bananas into fat free ice cream is a snap. Like the title says, purchasing a vitamix is the best decision I made last quarter and I am considering purchasing one for my mom. Buy it with easy pay, I promise you won't regret it. The website also sells refurbished if you can't afford brand new. Happy blending!
I ordered this product about four months ago, but decided to use it today. I have watched every show on the Vitamix and would get so excited. But, would not pull the product out to use it. Today, I threw in some vegetables and fruit with water just to see what the product would do. Well, it performed just as it was demonstrated on tv. I had no clue on how long to blend the drink, so I got the experience of a hot mixture (LOL) as well. I am so excited that now I am going to the grocery store to try something else. Like others, I would not have purchased this product without easy pay. I am grateful that QVC provides this type of opportunity. I am always ordering from QVC. I have rarely been disappointed. I highly recommend the Vitamix 5200. Once I figure out what I am doing with the blender, I will be blending away. Tomorrow, I think I will try the dry mix.
I have been dying to purchase a Vitamix since vacationing in Jamaica last year. They made the best smoothies and they told me they used a Vitamix. Fast forward to last month and I made my husband watch the show....he was hooked. We've owned it for a week now and make fruit smoothies for breakfast, and green shakes at dinner. Works exactly as advertised - blends everything, easy to clean. Highly recommend. The recipe book is also a terrific add on.
