Barbara Bixby Sterling/18K Gemstone Hamsa Enhancer
Not what I expected
Wait list for for the Hamsa, but dissapointed. The gold presence is barely noticable and does not look like 18k. . So sad must go back. Please try again Barbara
Sad it's no longer available
Oh my, this is really gorgeous. I hope BB adds something similar. I was on waitlist and happy when I saw that it had shipped. When it arrived, I was even happier. (smile)
Not for me
I was intrigued by the Hamsa design , meaning, designer, & rave reviews. Have to say I opened the box & my reaction was" Eh". I wasn't wowed. I am returning it. Just not for me.
So glad i got it!
Wanted this forever!!! Checked one day and it was on clearance and I grabbed it. It is so spiritual to me. I think " Hand of God " whenI have it on. A wonderful symbol to remind me that God is protecting me. Perfect size and weight. Well worth the money. I polished off some oxidation and it is beautiful.
I am so thrilled with this enhancer. It looks stunning on the Bali chains that I have, and especially nice on the Barbara Bixby black cord w/ the matching gold lotus. Everything about this Hamsa is executed beautifully. If I had any small suggestion, it would be that if it is "do-able" , use rose colored rhodium plating with the Brazilian garnets. It would be nice if the garnets stood out a bit more----but I love it anyway!
Thank You Mami!
My mother actually ordered this for herself. I happened to be home when the UPS guy delivered it. When my mom saw my face as I opened it with her, she gave it to me on the spot! She then ordered another for herself. It is a beautiful and unique hamsa hand. I love the tarnish in the silver and the size. The stones are a great contrast. It's perfect and I've pretty much been wearing it everyday and I often layer it with other BB pieces. A beautiful piece- unique, meaningful and lovely.
It is beautiful. I love BB jewelry as they are miniature art pieces. I just wish that I could afford to buy more. I'm saving up so that I can get the little Buddha pendant as well. Not only is this piece beautiful, it also gives me peace of mind when wearing it.
This piece is perfect. At first hung it on an 18" chain but the hamsa dipped into my cleavage. Switched it over to a 16" and now it is perfect!!
An heirloom in the making
This piece is amazing. I continue to be drawn to (into) the piece on so many levels. I'm particularly excited right now, because I just tried it on a BB bracelet I bought years ago. You may know it! It's a hinged bracelet with a brown pearl in the center that is actually a charm. The Hamsa looks wonderful right next to the brown pearl!
Barbara....you're such a wonderful artist!
I waited a very long time before purchasing; my piece looks exactly like the one shown online and on air. The back has an equally ornate gallery, minus the gemstones. BB's "lotus" in blue topaz at the center of the enhancer is in the shape of a cross; there's a marquis shaped north-south dollop of silver between the blue topaz cross and 18 kt lotus (which looks like a four-leaf clover) that is undoubtedly meant to invoke the symbol of a fish, which may also be a traditional symbol used with the hamsa. The colors blue and red (BB uses rhodolite garnet; I'd have liked to have seen red corundum or ruby here) are important for the hamsa. I might like the enhancer better if the fingers were pointed down; fingers pointed down assumes God's blessings and protections are coming "down" to you while fingers pointed up assumes there is evil around you that must be literally stopped, hence the upward position of the fingers, like the sign for "stop." It's a heavy piece, which surprised me for the price. Celebs wear ones of similar sizes on very long chains. A previous review mentioned the need for "the right chain." I tried it on a pearl and gemstone station necklace, black pearl strand, 18-inch Suarti naga chain sold on QVC (hanging from the toggle clasp), a silver collar, five-strand liquid silver (also from the Q), even an 18kt chain--because of the 18kt touches on the piece, it looked great. Looked good on all the different necklaces. My best guess is, seeing such a large-scale, powerful piece close to the face may not work for everyone hence "the right chain" comment. If you have the 54" Judith Ripka pearl station necklace sold on QVC, try it doubled for the rich look of a double-strand 30-inch necklace (with the enhancer) for the "Hollywood" effect. And, if you ultimately don't like it as much as you first imagined, return it. The Q has your back!
BOLD and BEAUTIFUL
I'm a huge BB fan, and have a number of her pieces, non of which disappoint. Now I have this Hamsa to add to my fabulously gorgeous collection. This piece is large, and like all of Barbara's designs has a unique vintage quality. Just as beatifully sculpted on the back as well; a WOW piece -- definitely a keeper!
LOVE IT.. IT HAD A BIT TO MUCH OXIDATION FOR MY TASTE BUT JEWELER POLISH IT OFF AND ITS GREAT. UNIQUE...
