About the Design

"This necklace is inspired by the real La Peregrina pearl which was one of the largest natural pearls in history. It had many owners, including the Spanish Royals. Throughout its lifetime, the pearl was the piéce de résistance of many different pieces of jewelry. History continues with my interpretation; I've added an enhancer that allows you to continue creating different looks."

—Kenneth Jay Lane

About Kenneth Jay Lane
Kenneth Jay Lane

"Women of all ages love costume jewelry because it's fun, it's fashionable, and it makes a woman feel younger." — Kenneth Jay Lane

Kenneth Jay Lane is widely recognized as one of the most innovative fashion jewelry designers. His clientele list reads like a Who's Who in Hollywood and glitters with first ladies, royalty, and movie stars. Born in Detroit, Lane attended the University of Michigan, majoring in architecture. It's still one of his loves, but he confessed he "couldn't do the math". He then transferred to the renowned Rhode Island School of Design where he got his bachelor of arts.

After graduation, Lane moved to New York, first working on the art staff of Vogue and then as an assistant designer at Delman Shoes. He studied in Paris with the great Roger Vivier and then moved back to New York to head up the Christian Dior shoe division. Lane's breakthrough idea of putting rhinestones on shoes — deemed silly at the time — resulted in creating earrings to match for an Arnold Scassi collection. After being featured in The New York Times, Lane began selling earrings in stores on Fifth Avenue within a month. As Elle magazine puts it, "Kenneth Jay Lane is the hottest costume jewelry designer around." His chic designs are always "just right" for any occasion.

KJL Bold Simulated Pearl Enhancer with Chain 2.6 5 5 5
Love the chain! I bought this item for the chain, which is really pretty. The enhancer, on the other hand, is REALLY tacky. It looks like something one would find on a dime store jewelry counter...on sale!!! 04-20-15
Pleased This costume jewelry chain with enhancer is beautiful. 04-18-15
Beautiful The chain with the enhancer pearl is beautiful exactly like the video! But I gave 3 stars because the quality of the pearl enhancer is not good!! ::( 11-08-14
A disappointment. Since I knew the history of LaPeregrina, I bought this enhancer quickly knowing it would be beautiful. Not. It is cheaply made and the stones are set half in and half out of the settings...just not up to what I expected from KJL. 04-16-12
Disappointed ! I LOVE KJL jewelry but not this piece. I ordered it sight unseen, was taken by the description, and liked the idea of using the necklace alone w/o the enhancer. The latter holds true. The chain alone is good looking but the so called feather design with crystals looks cheap and fake-turned me off. For half the price, I would have kept it. I'm certainly not giving up on the KJL line-I believe this is the first piece I've returned. I'll be back for more. The Coach 12-27-11
