In South America, Native people have worked metals for at least 4,000 years, and by about 3,000 years ago, metallurgy had spread throughout the Andes. Native people in Panama and Costa Rica were working metals by at least A.D. 500. Over time, highly skilled artists in different regions developed characteristic techniques and styles of metalwork.

Inspired by the collection at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, this sterling silver, brass, and turquoise charm bracelet unites a symbolic frog, monkey, crayfish, bird, and salamander. Alternating blue-green free-form beads, brown-green rondel turquoise beads, and round sterling silver and brass beads form a colorful, dimensional partnership with the sterling silver and brass animal charms.

perfect I'm thrilled with this bracelet. It's not only the most interesting piece I own, but the weight and scale is perfect. I hesitated because I don't really like charms. They make too much noise and can be just irritating to wear (for me). But this is just lovely to wear, the charms are comfortable and the different elements are simply beautiful. My new favorite! 06-06-12

thumbs down! This bracelet is of very poor quality, I wore it one time and the brass was already rubbing off making it look very old and cheap. needless to say its on the way back 06-05-12

Charming Charm Bracelet The quality of this Smithsonian Institute bracelet is excellent. The charms are well-detailed on both sides and the turquoise and copper beads are just the right size. I've also printed out the fascinating history of the charms. This one is a wow! 02-09-12
