Why is the Sleeping Beauty Turquoise almost free of matrix or markings in the stone?
For Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, we closely monitor the range of blue color and the level of mottling, matrix and markings we will accept. Sleeping Beauty Turquoise can have all of these markings in the stone, but QVC currently accepts only Sleeping Beauty Turquoise that is free of markings.

What is matrix?
Turquoise deposits usually form in iron-rich host rock which tends to create dark brown or tan markings called matrix.

Where is Turquoise mined?
Turquoise is found in only a few places on earth: dry and barren regions where acidic, copper-rich groundwater seeps downward and reacts with minerals that contain phosphorus and aluminum. Some areas that most of the turquoise has been mined: Arizona, Mexico and China. Sleeping Beauty Turquoise is from the Sleeping Beauty mine outside Globe, Arizona. The mine got its name because the mountain where it is mined resembles a sleeping woman laying on her back with her arms crossed.

How can we continue to sell Sleeping Beauty Turquoise if the mine is closed?
QVC suppliers have acquired large quantities of rough turquoise when they learned the mine was closing. We have been using these lots of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise for our jewelry.

The Sleeping Beauty mine is currently closed and, at this time, there is no new production of the Sleeping Beauty stones.

About Michael Dawkins
Michael Dawkins

Michael Dawkins has developed one of the most recognizable and respected brands in designer jewelry. As a student, he was drawn to architecture and industrial design. The combination of these interests and his pursuit of an aesthetic sensibility shape his design process. Dawkins explains: "I have discovered the basic principles of form and rhythm in the study of natural objects. I strive to translate these principles into jewelry designs that are functional, wearable, and timeless."

He's always used classic materials: silver, gold, diamonds, semi-precious stones, and unusual natural materials found in his travels. Early on in his career, Dawkins discovered the ancient technique of granulation, in which metal is heated and formed into tiny spheres that are affixed in various patterns. Incorporating this design element along with clean, crisp lines has become his signature. His collections combine a modern sensibility with an infinite respect for the hues, textures, and compositions abundant in nature.

All of these influences come together to create some of the most sought-after collections in contemporary designer jewelry. His frequent personal contact with clients provides invaluable feedback, making his jewelry striking and extremely wearable.

J148672 - Michael Dawkins Sterling Turquoise & Blue TopazBand Ring 2.9 5 24 24
Just beautiful! BUT runs small... This ring is just beautiful in every way! But seems to run very small, it did not fit me like other size 5 rings do. So sad to have to return it!!!! 12-27-12
Very Nice Ring Bought this ring to wear as a wedding band when I wear my MD jewelry. It works well, I wear a 5 1/2 and bought the 6 and it fits great. I gave 4 stars for the light topaz color, but over all a nice design. I have receivced many compliments on this piece. 03-25-12
Nice Quality Very nice quality, good design, matches my exquisite cuff perfectly. 11-23-11
Pretty but small This is a pretty ring but way too small (wide all the way around). I paid attention to the reviews and, since I've lost weight and am between sizes, I went for the bigger size that is normally too big. Not even close! I think I will need to size up another whole size. Yes, the blue topaz are light but still looks good. 09-08-11
lovely ring This is a really lovely ring, but it does run small. I will need to go up at least one size. The topaz stones are very pale, not like in the picture. Pretty, but almost clear. I will have to return. 08-11-11
Almost blew it. I almost passed on this ring even though I liked it on the video. I read the reviews and felt disappointed before I ever ordered the ring. Shame on me. This ring is beautifully made. Mine has no construction flaws. The issue that most customers had is with the paleness of the topaz stones. After reading all of the reviews, I went ahead and trusted my instinct and ordered this ring expecting "light" blue topaz stones with darker turquoise stones. That is exactly what I recieved. When I knew what to expect I absolutely fell in love with it. Even though the topaz is as light as some aquamarines I own, it still WORKS! The different colors and textures compliment each other instead of just blending. It is very very pretty. 04-29-11
White Topaz? Blue topaz stones are almost clear. My ring does not have the beautiful blue complementary color shown on-air. I'm sending mine back. Very disappointing! Would have been a great ring to go with the TSV bracelet. 01-16-11
No color in the Blue Topaz I own a blue topaz and turquoise bracelet I got from QVC about 5 years ago and I have been looking for a ring with the same stones. So when I saw this ring and a Michael Dawkins design too I just knew I had struck gold. Well I am very disappointed......the blue topaz is so pale it looks like clear glass. You almost think a stone is missing. I gave it two stars because I like the design of the ring. The picture is not a true representation of the color of the topaz. Sad to say I am sending this ring back. I wish I had read the reviews before ordering. 01-14-11
So Glad I Purchased This Ring I was really hesitant about buying this ring after reading the negative reviews. I think I must have read the reviews for this ring half a dozen times. The negative reviews kept jumping out at me but I really wanted this ring to wear with my Michael Dawkins Sterling Gemstone Open Flower Design Bracelet (J149153) which is beautiful. Finally, when QVC had its easy pay anniversary I decided to order it and I am so happy with this ring. The fit is perfect for my middle finger and there are no rough edges. I absolutely LOVE the stone variations. The Blue Topaz stones are a light blue color but it makes a beautiful contrast with the perfect blue color of the Turquoise cabochon stones. The combination of my Michael Dawkins Turquoise bracelet with this ring is STUNNING. I love wearing them and I find myself deciding to wear this ring and the bracelet and then searching for an outfit in my closet that will work with the jewelry. If you're not sure I would highly recommend that you buy the ring and try it for yourself. I don't think you'll be disappointed. 06-27-10
I like this ring I initially ordered this ring in a size 7 which is the size that usually works for a Michael Dawkins ring for me. But, it ended up being uncomfortably tight. I returned it and I'm currently on waitlist for a size 8. The ring that I returned did have very pale blue topaz stones but the faceting really made them sparkle so I still liked the look of the ring. The only discomfort I felt was from the ring being too small (wrong size for me). I tried it on my ring finger and could feel the granulation against my middle finger and little finger but it wasn't uncomfortable. I'm anxious to see how things go with the size 8 replacement ring when it arrives. 05-06-10
NOT COMFORTABLE I liked the look of the 2 gemstones, and the basic style of the ring. The problem was it is not comfortable to wear. I sent it back for this reason. I hope Michael can rework the ring and make it comfortable and I will purchase it again! 05-06-10
Sadly it's all been said I too wanted to love this ring. The turquoise and blue topaz are my family members birthstones. However, the blue topaz is lacking color; and the sides of the ring are very rough. I'd like to see this ring come back after some redesigning. I love the other Michael Dawkins items that I have, so my hopes are high for this ring being redone. 05-05-10
