F09747 - "The Truck Food Cookbook" by John T. Edge
Not My Cup of "Tea"
I had this book for awhile before I even broke the plastic wrapping to look at the recipes -- wish I had opened it sooner as I would have returned the book. I'm a basic meat and potatoes gal so the recipes in this book that feature "today's" fad foods do not appeal to me or my family. Recipes such as: Chickpea Fries, Coconut Veggie Chicken Crepes, Falafel and Egg Hoagies, Roast Duck Tacos, or Fried Brussel Sprouts are not something I would make -- or in my case -- eat. There are a few recipes I might try such as: Bacon or Sausage Waffles, Taiwanese Fried Chicken, Egg Foo Yong (for my mom), Sloppy Jerk Pork Sandwiches, and Grilled Cheese Mac and Cheese Sandwiches. If you're a fan of Tex Mex, there are quite a few recipes in this book that will appeal to you. This book is for those who enjoy a wide range of food tastes/flavors; unfortunately, that is not me. For this reason alone I am giving this book a 3-star rating.
Love the stories
I love cookbooks that tell me the stories behind different recipes. If I need a recipe I usually search for it on the internet. I buy a cookbook for the stories. And I loved this look into American food trucks and some of the delicious recipes that they serve. More than trying the recipes, I want to use this as a travel guide to have this food served to me.
Truck food cookbook
Not what I expected. There are pages missing and double pages of others. I would send it back if I could find the reciept......
I thought I would be getting some fantastic recipes; wrong. There might be one or two very vague recipes in here but that is it. The rest seems to conversation and just comments/words to fill up space. I am not a happy camper; very, very, very unhappy. Everything is soooo far out . . .
A Great Read!
I'm one of those strange people who loves to read cookbooks--yes--i cook from them, too, but the stories behind the food really get me interested. You wont be disappointed with the quality or the scope of this book--i loved it!
I Expected Better
I agree with everything the other 1 and 2 star reviewers said. The on-air presentation was great, but I quickly found out that it had nothing to do with this book. Save your money.
MAKES ME WANT MY OWN TRUCK
I love this book and plan on making some dishes this weekend. The informative side notes on the trucks and where they are located is priceless. Can't wait to find afew in my area and indulge.
NOT AT ALL WHAT I EXPECTED!
I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS COOKBOOK. I FEEL LIKE THERE MIGHT BE ONE OR TWO RECIPES THAT I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN TRYING. I GAVE IT 2 STARS ONLY FOR THE GREAT PICS. I WON'T BE SENDING IT BACK AS THE DELIVERY CHARGES ARE SO HIGH. OH WELL, LIVE AND LEARN.
Too many uncommon ingredients
I love cookbooks but was disappointed in this one. The on air presentation was much better than the originating cookbook. There are too many recipes with ingredients you do not have and in some cases I have never heard of before. That means you spend time looking for them and waste money because you may never use them again. Examples: Sriracha chile sauce, ghee, coriander, Cotija anejo, Chinese five spice powder, sweet potato starch, tararind pulp, liquid rennet, the list can go on. There are better books. I am sure what David was eating was good, but getting to the end result, well, I can find recipes with ingredients at hand or at least I know what they are and end up with good food too.
Truck Food Cookbook
I would not recommend this cookbook to anyone. I have many cookbooks and this is by far the worst of the bunch.
not what i expected
not a good read. was dissapointed by the lack, of receipts like on the show, will be sending it back.
Love this Cookbook!
I absolutely enjoyed this cookbook! It is a pleasure to read.I love sausage gravy and biscuits but never thought of having it on waffles. Sure gonna try that real soon! Wish I could visit these carts to get the food. I reccommend this to everyone! Love it! Thank you John T and QVC!
