Pure David Book is informative and entertaining. It is NOT a basic cookbook but the recipes are basically easy and tasty. 06-18-13
For Foodies, yes. For simple cooks, no. Let's be honest. David Venable is 90% of the appeal of this book. He's lovable and fun, and I think genuinely knowledgeable about food. And the food represented in this book is the kind of food the average family would want to eat—comforting (hence the book title) and familiar. Thing is, some of the recipes are a little...complicated, and IMO needlessly so. Flipping through the book, many of the ingredient lists are looooong and filled with seasonings/spices that your run-of-the-mill family might not have. I tried both his stuffed shell and mac and cheese recipes and while very good, were very time-consuming. A lot of the dishes offered are NOT what the busy mom/dad would want to tackle on a Monday night. From an aesthetic standpoint, the book is gorgeous. The hardback makes it difficult to prop open, but for display purposes, you couldn't ask for prettier. The photos are nice, and I love the bonus content offered in the QVC edition—perfect for fans of "In the Kitchen With David." If you're a serious Foodie into tackling complex recipes (they're not HARD to make, just involved) or just a big fan of David Venable, this is an excellent book. The few recipes I tried were tasty and the QVC edition is a great buy. But for a regular homecook looking for quick and easy recipes, you may want to look elsewhere. Nonetheless, it's a solid 4-star effort. My kudos to David on his success. 06-09-13
Happy dance. Happy dance I've made several items and all are great. Love the cole slaw and pulled pork. My daughter-in-law who doesn't really cook actually asked me for the cole slaw recipe!! First time I ever made pulled pork and the reviews were "this is the best pulled pork. Are you sure you've never made it before?" A can't miss book! 06-09-13
a good read ok, i wrote once and on my sons laptop which has a mind of its own...duh, ok. im a dufus.it all just vanished. geeze. ok. i..loved reading the book. read the whole thing in one night. some good, actually great ideas for me. i dont usually follow a recipe. grandma taught me how to cook. some recipes way more complicated then they need to be. some i've done. some i am going to do. overall.. i enjoyed. the book is in my kitchen next to emerils and paula deens book. my faves!! love watching dave in his kitchen too!! 05-05-13
first cookbook I bought where I would cook most of I am pleased with this cookbook...this is first one that I would actually make nearly all items and does not need all those fancy shmancy items. I am surprised because nearly every book ends up having only 4 or 5 I would make. I thought it would be another just the same. This is family food. MY only complaint is the print, very light and small..hard to read I wish it was darker and a little larger.... extremely light print that is only reason for 4 stars. 04-26-13
LOVE DAVID AND THE COOKBOOK I love to watch "In the kitchen with David. He makes it educational and funny. His cookbook is great. I have made some of his comfort foods and they have been great!! 04-25-13
David's in my kitchen! I have the book displayed on my countertop where it is within easy reach. We have made serveral of the recipes and loved them all! 04-24-13
Feel like David is in my kitchen I love the recipes and the ability to create great tasking dishes that don't require that I venture to a specialty store. I feel like David is doing the happy dance in my kitchen with every dish cause the taste so good! 04-15-13
Print Too Light I found the print kind of hard to read, it's on the light side. If it were in black it would be much easier to read! 04-14-13
Dont Waste Your Money Have lived here in Charlotte for five years now, and haven't tasted anything like any recipe in this book. My 6 year old great granddaughter does a better job then anything in this book. Never cared for anything that he thought was great, and this book just justifies my ideas on his taste. 04-14-13
My Favorite Cook Book EVER!! David, I love, love, love your cookbook. The recipes are so easy and allow me to use the ingredients in the kitchen. The tips are awesome, especially the tip about grilled cheese sandwiches. Oh My! My husband makes them now and serves them with fresh veggies with a bit of salad dressing on the side to dip, a side of chips, and some grapes to family and friends. He just loves the twist on the grilled cheese, I love the entire experience of this lovely book. Many thanks. 04-14-13
Yummy I watched David described some of the recipes in this book I could not resist. I am so happy I ordered it. I made the pork tenderloins for a family gathering, one of my in-laws who is a chief along with the rest of guests raved about it. Another gathering David’s baked macaroni did not stay on the table. Need I say more? 04-14-13
