I've owned all types of cameras, from 35mm, to digital point and shoot cameras. Canon's SX40 combines the easy of point and shoot, with the professional quality pictures that I demand.
It combines the easy of automatic preset modes, with the versatility manual controls. I've photographed everything from landscapes to extreme closeups of insects with this camera. All of the pictures show fine detail and excellent, true to life color.
The image stability is outstanding, and is a must if you're going to perform extreme closeups. I use a converter lens to shoot extreme closeups of everything from flowers to insects. The camera performs like a champ.
I'm also impressed with the built in action mode, which photographs fast action such as sports.
The real reason I upgraded my Canon G9 to the SX40 was for the optical zoom. The variable optical zoom lens quality is unsurpassed, and well color corrected. For wildlife photography the lens pulls in the detail wonderfully. The photographer has almost unlimited ability for closeups of tiny objects, when used with a teleconverter lens.
I've also started astronomical photography using the SX40. The Moon at 35x is incredible. I've also started photographing various objects through the eyepiece of my telescope. The SX40 has yet to disappoint me.
I've owned the camera since January, and I've taken over 10,000 pictures. The Canon SX40 is better than sliced bread!

AWESOME!!!!
I finally bought myself a good camera. My 1st canon. LOVE THIS CAMERA! When I watch the info on QVC about this camera, they showed a picture of the moon, surely it was taken somewhere out west from a mountain top. I WAS SO WRONG. I live in the valley. I was in my driveway with a tripod and zoomed out to 35x's, I have an awesome picture of the crators on the moon. I watched a person from the UK on youtube and learned what really neat features this camera does. like fisheye, toy camera, color accent (really cool), vivid color, burst shoot 8 picture with one click, I also learned that I can add filters, Looking to buy the star filter. I say buy this camera and enjoy!

FABULOUS CAMERA!
OMG! I love this camera! Ordered it and received it in time for vacation. It takes the clearest pictures. The 35X optical zoom is awesome! My husband zoomed in on a single acorn on the other side of the street in our neighbors back yard, we were both excited with the clarity! I took a few hundred spectacular pics while on vacation and the action shots are amazing too! Over the weekend I took a lot of action shots of my nephews doing forward and backward flips into our pool and they are all superb! I was so excited to have the chance to upgrade to a better Canon and I am 150% satisfied!!! Thanks QVC for your continued awesome products and your affordable easy-pay plans!
