About Bose

A History of Bose®

Bose® Corporation was founded in 1964 by Dr. Amar G. Bose, then professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As an MIT grad student in the 1950s, Dr. Bose decided to purchase a new stereo system. He was disappointed to find that speakers with impressive technical specifications failed to reproduce the realism of a live performance.

The quest for better sound was on.

Extensive research in the fields of speaker design and psychoacoustics – the human perception of sound – led to the groundbreaking 901® Direct/Reflecting® speaker system in 1968. Its unprecedented approach to sound reproduction came much closer to the essence and emotional impact of live music, and won immediate acclaim.

The list of major Bose® innovations continues to grow. Fourteen years of research led to the development of acoustic waveguide speaker technology, found in our award-winning Wave® Radio, Wave® Music System, and Acoustic Wave® Music Systems. Acoustimass® speaker technology reshaped conventional thinking about the relationship between speaker size and sound, enabling palm-sized speakers to produce audio quality previously thought impossible from speakers so small.

Auditioner® audio demonstrator technology removed the guesswork from sound system design for arenas and other large venues. It allows builders, architects, and facility managers to hear precisely what a Bose® system will sound like in their building, before any equipment is installed, even if the building only exists as a blueprint.

Bose Lifestyle® systems provided a welcome alternative to conventional component-based systems by offering fully integrated home entertainment solutions. Lifestyle® systems deliver performance and elegance from elements specifically engineered to work together.

The systems approach has paved the way for numerous Bose® solutions, audio, and beyond. Integrated systems account for the acclaimed performance of Bose® automotive sound systems and Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headsets. The revolutionary Bose® suspension system and ElectroForce® linear motion system rely on proprietary Bose® software and hardware working together in harmony. All feature technologies available only from Bose® Home Audio.

Today, you can find Bose® wherever quality sound is important. From the Sistine Chapel to NASA space shuttles to the Japan National Theatre. In the home and on the road, from large outdoor arenas to intimate neighborhood stores, restaurants and clubs, you can hear the realism of the most respected name in sound – Bose®.

Rated 5 out of 5 by This " Baby Boomer" loves my Amazing Bose sound! I have 2 Bose L1 Compacts connected to an Allen & Heath Zed 10 FX mixer. I use condenser mics, Karaoke CD player & small TV monitor. My group performs for free in Assisted Living, retirement communities... We are all trained singers & appreciate the wonderful " stereo" sound this set up provides. The audiences really appreciate the quallity of sound provided! I have also used this set up for DJ Karaoke in Performance Center of my Clubhouse.Previously, I used 1 Bose L 1 compact with T1 Tonematch & it was very nice, but using A&H mixer was easier, for me, than setting presets for performences. I also have covers made by Studio Slips for Compacts. 10-28-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bose has done it again! Couldn't be happier with this system! Easy to set up and beak down, portable, and the quality is above all else! We are always asked to bring this system to family BBQs. It's pure, clear sound that you will only find with Bose. You will not be disappointed. 03-07-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great This system is great for small rooms. No big bass out of the sub, just a all around solid sound. 09-20-12

Rated 5 out of 5 by One Word....WOW! I researched this for 6 months before making the jump...and after unpacking, setting it up, and plugging in the acoustic and mic I was playing, literally in minutes. What I heard was amazing, the guitar was cleaner than I have ever heard and the vocals came out crisp and sharp. Hooked up an iPod and played some favorites, my neighbor 6 houses down heard it clear as day and it was not even pointed towards him and only at 50% volume. Don't beleive what you hear about this unit not being able to push the sound. Only thing I did not like is the hard coded pre-set tone match for guitar and vocals but that will be corrected by getting the T1 mixer. I am more than happy, more than amazed...but it is Bose! I just got this 2 weeks ago and have been asked to do a Grad Party and 2 weddings just from me playing around with it. I highly recommned it! 03-21-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great As ALWAYS!!! I bought this for my fiance as a birthday present as he is a musician. He already had a larger Bose portable system but needed a smaller one for smaller venues that he plays. It is so lightweight therefore easily portable and works amazingly. I already knew he'd love it since Bose has always had the best sound with all of their products and that it is the only brand that he trusts. I would definitely recommend for ANYONE in this line of work. 01-28-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by Really Great for the Professional My husband is a mobile DJ. He not only has these but he has the Bose L2 model as well. Depending on the venue is depending on which setup he takes (also how many channels he needs the L1 only has two channels). He also uses the compatible Bose mixer too. The sound is perfection! First the slim design of both the L1 and L2 systems ALWAYS draws attention from clients and guest alike. Then the sound clarity in such large spaces is amazing. The truly great thing is unlike other professional sound systems the Bose L1 and L2 systems disperse the sound in such a way that you can actually stand right next to these speakers and not go completely deaf. We can take requests without yelling ourselves hoarse when trying to speak to guests. If there would be one downfall to the L1 over the L2 is that one time he did have issues with distoration due to power issues at the venue in conjunction with the setup he used (normally he runs two laptops, mixer, cd player, etc). While it only happened once with the L1 (and he plays all the time in many different size venues) it has never happened with the L2. The other amazing feature is that these break down and become very portable and easy to transport from place to place. I can carry two sets of these into a place at the same time without the aid of a cart. We always joke that we have the best sound system in the neighborhood (the kids love it on nice days when he opens our garage door and runs through his playlists to ensure all the songs work before he shows up and the song mysterically cuts off at the wrong time). I keep telling him to retire so we can hook these up in the house and have the best sound system indoors too. But I know it would be too much for such a small space that I have and my Bose surround sound system is really awesome! 01-04-11
Rated 4 out of 5 by Increadible Sound I finally broke down and made the jump to Bose. I bought the L1 Compact as it is the entry level system and I am mostly a singer/songwriter and perform as a single. I have heard other users say that the system sounds tinny or lacks depth, but I will argue that statement: The L1 Compact, one I had my levels and E.Q. adjusted correctly (I use a separate mixer), simply blew me away! I get clear, pristine highs, fantastic mids and the bass is not bad at all - considering the subwoofer is only an 8" speaker! The volume is impressive as well. Seems fairly easy to control feedback and if the unit is just behind me, no feedback at all! The on-board mixer works very well, but I have some extra gear that I must use a separate mixer for, so I don't use the on-board system. Going on my experience with this L1 Compact, I will not hesitate with my next purchase; upgrading to One or Two L1 Model 2 with the B2 Module and possibly the T1 ToneMatch mixer as well! The T1 Model 2's would easily fill a full house at most medium sized venues - with no monitors required! I would not hesitate doing some heavy DJ work with this setup either (the L1 M2 that is.) Bose hit these out of the park. They must be real magicians there - how else can they get such great sound from seemingly impossible small sizes of arrays? 03-24-16
