Description
What is it: A revolutionary step toward achieving beautiful, healthy, shiny hair. WEN cleansing conditioner replaces shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, leave-in conditioner, and even shaving cream.

Who is it for: Formulated for all hair types, the conditioner contains moisturizing properties for medium to coarse, wavy to curly, and ethnic hair. Also wonderful for dry, flaky, or sensitive scalps.

Why is it different: WEN cleansing conditioner is detergent free, yet gently cleanses and moisturizes. Tee tree's invigorating properties make it exceptional for dry, flaky, or sensitive scalps.

How do I use it: Start by rinsing hair thoroughly for at least one minute. Apply eight to 10 pumps to the crown and eight to 10 pumps to the nape or back of the head. Massage vigorously into scalp for two to three minutes. Add an extra splash of water to help evenly distribute through the ends. Next, add 10 to 20 pumps, depending on hair length, through the mid-shafts and ends to thoroughly cleanse and hydrate the hair. Comb through with a wide tooth comb and clip up for the remainder of the shower. Leave on for at least three to five minutes--the longer, the better! Rinse thoroughly and completely for one to two minutes by massaging your scalp and running your fingers through to the ends.

The more conditioner you use, the better the results. Number of pumps needed may vary depending on length, season, and weather. For hair above your shoulders, use a minimum of 20 pumps. For hair down to your shoulders, use a minimum of 30 pumps. For hair past your shoulders, use a minimum of 40 pumps. One 16-oz bottle should last approximately four to six weeks. After showering, apply one to three pumps to wet hair as a leave-in conditioner, starting at the back of the head and working through to the ends. Let hair dry naturally and style; or, wrap a towel around your head to absorb moisture. Do not abrasively dry your head with a towel as this will stress the hair and cause it to frizz.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is WEN?
A: WEN is a revolutionary new concept in cleansing your hair that has Hollywood buzzing. It was developed as an alternative to the way people are used to cleansing their hair. WEN Cleansing Conditioners replace shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner, giving you five products in one bottle.

Q: Will WEN really clean my hair? Won't I need shampoo?
A: WEN uses a combination of natural extracts and botanicals to hydrate and cleanse your hair without the use of harsh detergents or chemicals. The perfect mixture and blend of ingredients leaves your hair looking healthy, moisturized, and cleansed.

Q: What's the difference between shampoo & WEN Cleansing Conditioners?
A: First of all, WEN cleanses your hair without harsh detergents or chemicals, leaving it clean and hydrated without stripping or lathering. Since WEN doesn't contain any sodium laurel/laureth sulfates, it doesn't strip your natural oils or color, so your shade will stay vibrant longer.

Q: How do you use WEN Cleansing Conditioners?
A: If you're using the 16-oz or 6-oz sizes, rinse your hair thoroughly, then apply 12–20 pumps of WEN into your palms and rub them together (we recommend 20–40 pumps for thicker/longer hair). Apply it to your scalp and add a splash of water for a foaming effect. Since WEN has no detergents or sodium lauryl sulfate, it won't lather. Massage it thoroughly into your hair, comb it through, and leave it in for the duration of your shower for maximum cleansing and conditioning. Rinse your hair thoroughly and completely, massaging your scalp and running your fingers through to the ends. Apply 1/2–1 pump (depending on your hair length and texture) to soaking wet hair as a leave-in conditioner. For best results, we suggest that you cleanse, rinse, and repeat using half of the recommended pumps for the first cleanse and the remaining half of the pumps for the second cleanse.

Cleansing Conditioner should be applied in four sections: crown, nape, ends on the right, and ends on the left. For hair above the ears, use a minimum of 12 pumps (three pumps per section). For hair above the shoulders, use a minimum of 16 pumps (four pumps per section). For hair down to the shoulders, use a minimum of 24 pumps (six pumps per section). For hair past the shoulders, use a minimum of 32 pumps (eight pumps per section). For hair to your mid-back, use a minimum of 40 pumps (10 pumps per section). For thicker/coarser hair, increase the number of pumps in order to thoroughly cleanse your scalp and hydrate your ends.

If you're using the 32-oz size, rinse your hair thoroughly, then apply 8–16 pumps of WEN into your palms and rub them together (we recommend 16–24 pumps for thicker/longer hair). Apply it to your scalp and add a splash of water for a foaming effect. Massage it thoroughly into your hair, comb it through, and leave it in for the duration of your shower for maximum cleansing and conditioning. Rinse your hair thoroughly and completely, massaging your scalp and running your fingers through to the ends. Apply 1/4–1/2 pump (depending on your hair length and texture) to soaking wet hair as a leave-in conditioner. For best results, we suggest that you cleanse, rinse, and repeat using half of the recommended pumps for the first cleanse and the remaining half of the pumps for the second cleanse.

Cleansing Conditioner should be applied in four sections: crown, nape, ends on the right, and ends on the left. For hair above the ears, use a minimum of eight pumps (two pumps per section). For hair above the shoulders, use a minimum of 12 pumps (three pumps per section). For hair down to the shoulders, use a minimum of 16 pumps (four pumps per section). For hair past the shoulders, use a minimum of 20 pumps (five pumps per section). For hair to your mid-back, use a minimum of 24 pumps (six pumps per section). For thicker/coarser hair, increase the number of pumps in order to thoroughly cleanse your scalp and hydrate your ends.

Q: How many pumps are in each bottle?
A: The approximate number of pumps depends on the bottle size:

6 oz: 60 pumps
16 oz: 160 pumps
32 oz: 192 pumps (standard WEN), 120 pumps (Six Thirteen)

Q: Why won't my pump unlock/open?
A: The pumps on the Cleansing Conditioners are actually very easy to open. The easiest way to release one you're having trouble with is to set the bottle on a hard surface and, while applying slight downward pressure to the pump head, turn in a counterclockwise direction.

Q: I got the pump unlocked, now why won't any product pump out?
A: New pumps will take several pumps to do what we call "prime." If you've pumped it more than 15 times and no product is coming through, please remove the pump from the bottle to ensure that the dip tube is still attached. If it is, please contact Customer Service for a replacement.

Q: My product is low in the bottle. Why isn't the pump working?
A: This is a common problem for all lotion-type products in pump bottles. The nice thing about WEN is that you can see through our bottles so you know how much you have left. First, gently tap the bottle on a hard surface to remove any possible air pockets that have formed at the base of the dip tube. This should get your pump going again. As the product gets lower in the bottle, the pump may stop working again, which is due to the thickness of the product. The best way to get the remainder out of the bottle is to add some warm water and shake it thoroughly to mix the remaining product. While this will slightly dilute the formula, its cleansing properties won't be diminished. The reason we don't create WEN in a more fluid form is because we'd have to dilute the product from the start.

Q: My hair looks greasy and/or weighed down. I tried using less of the product & it hasn't helped. What's wrong?
A: One of the most common misconceptions about WEN products is that they work like traditional conditioners, meaning the more you use, the greasier your hair will be. This couldn't be further from the truth! In fact, if you aren't using enough of the Cleansing Conditioner, it won't be able to clean your hair. The correct number of pumps varies depending on a number of traits, including length, texture, etc. If you want to be safe, the more WEN you use, the better. You may also obtain better results if you cleanse, rinse, and repeat.

Q: How many times a week should I use WEN? Will it damage my hair if I use it every day?
A: The more you use WEN, the better! You can use it twice every day and it'll simply hydrate and moisturize your hair. In fact, when you first start out with our product, we generally suggest that you use it every day. It'll help rehydrate your hair and it'll appear healthier with each cleansing.

Q: How do I use WEN as an overnight treatment?
A: Start out by cleansing your hair like you normally would. After you're done thoroughly rinsing out the Cleansing Conditioner, reapply with half the number of pumps (or more for added benefits), or apply the WEN Re-Moist Hydrating Mask. Splash your hair with water, massage it vigorously, and comb it through with a wide-tooth comb. Then, either wrap your hair in a towel or wear a shower cap and leave it on for as long as possible, which would ideally be overnight. However, even 15–20 minutes

Q: When should I use the WEN oils?
A: The oils are very multipurpose. You can use them on dry hair by simply adding 1–2 drops into the palms of your hands and running them through your ends for added moisture. You can also use them to tame frizz in the same fashion (a few drops into your palms, which you then run over the problem areas). WEN oils give dry hair extra shine and moisture. If you add a few drops of the oil into your leave-in Cleansing Conditioner, you can also help eliminate frizz that way. If you have a dry scalp, we suggest sleeping with the Tea Tree Oil on your scalp overnight so it works as a treatment. You can also apply oil to your ends so it works as a hydration mask. Apply 4–6 dropperfuls of the Tea Tree Oil directly to your scalp and massage vigorously. Then, apply 4–6 dropperfuls into your palms to apply it to your ends. Sleep with it in (it's not messy, so it won't get on your pillows or sheets) and rinse it out in the morning. WEN oils can also be added to your bathwater to moisturize your skin and create an inviting aromatherapy experience. When applied to your body after showering (prior to towel drying), WEN oils will leave your skin soft, supple, and hydrated. They also make excellent massage oils.

Q: What's the shelf life of WEN?
A:
WEN lasts at least two years and we've found that in some cases, it can last even longer than that.

Q: Which of the products is the leave-in treatment?
A: The Cleansing Conditioner replaces leave-in conditioner. After you cleanse your hair and rinse it very thoroughly, apply 1–3 pumps to the mid-shaft/ends of your hair as a leave-in treatment. Rake and twist your hair with your fingers repeatedly or until it absorbs the product.

Q: Can I use WEN on hair extensions/dreadlocks/perms?
A: Yes, although we generally suggest bringing the product to your hair stylist and speaking with him or her about it first. Plenty of our salon clients have hair extensions and still use our products. However, if your extensions aren't designed to be used with any oil-based products, only use WEN on your ends so you don't loosen the extensions. With dreadlocks, really work the product into your hair while you're cleansing. It'll really help restore hydration to your hair! Since WEN is neither stripping nor damaging, you can use it on perms. However, perms tend to be very drying and damaging, so we suggest that you cleanse as often as possible to help rehydrate your hair.

About WEN by Chaz Dean

WEN by Chaz Dean products have revolutionized the hair industry and the way people around the world think about caring for their hair. While working in his own salon, Chaz witnessed the damage that harsh ingredients in lathering shampoos can cause, including dryness, breakage, and fading color. He realized there must be a better way to cleanse hair without compromising its health and integrity, so he began developing WEN in 1993.

After seven years of research and development, Chaz launched the foundation of his line, WEN Cleansing Conditioners. These non-lathering cleansers replace shampoos, conditioners, deep conditioners, detanglers, and leave-in conditioners without robbing hair of natural essential oils, nutrients, or color.

Chaz has continued to grow the line slowly and steadily in response to his clients' and customers' needs. His collection's six core Cleansing Conditioners establish the foundation for beautiful hair, while complementary styling and treatment products help nourish, style, and protect it.

so-so This product definitely does what it promises. After using it, my hair was soft and manageable and healthy-feeling but the pumping action was difficult to deal with. I have long hair, so I need lots of pumps and not every pump released product. I had to keep pumping and working it to get out what I needed. Also, I think this product is a little expensive. 06-09-09
Bad for fine hair I have color-treated baby fine hair. This made my hair limp, lifeless and horrible. I tried the recommended product amount (24 pumps!) the first time, then one pump the next time just to see if there was a difference. None. Save your money! 12-29-08
disappointed This is no miracle shampoo. My Garnier is way better for the price. My hair felt dirty by the end of the day no matter how much I rinsed after using this product You can use less than half of what they recommend; they just want to sell more product. I bought it for dry scalp, which it temporarily diminished. One positive thing is that my hair felt thicker, but I felt my hair was more dull. Again, this is after a thorough rinse, which also increases shower time. I've never had a problem with frizz, so maybe I bought the wrong type, but I really wanted the tea tree shampoo to combat dry, winter scalp. I doubt Chaz uses this stuff all the time, but I bet he can afford to buy something really good. 11-22-08
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G At first i didn't think it could do much for my dry hair ( my hair is close to my hip in length ) and all i do it put it up and it gets so tangled and dry and just impossible to even work with... but once i tried this..the first time i was amazed how amazing it felt..,it usually takes 40 mins for me to brush my hair..with this.. 1 minute.. i am still in shock how amazing it is.. and to my surprised after my hair was dry my husband said, " omg, your hair looks so good ".. i was so surprised since he doesnt really pay attention to that type of stuff.. so please get it.. it was so worth it... im going to be ordering the 4 pack forsure now.. 11-06-08
You saved my hair Thank you so much, you saved my dry color treated hair. I ordered the tea tree cleanser and it is great. i have to admit i was a bit skeptical at first, i had never heard of not using shampoo. but this is great! I've been color treating my hair for the last 8 years, when i used shampoo i would have to use conditioner (lots of it) just to comb through my hair. my hair was unmanagable, sticky and a plain mess plus I have psoriasis on my scalp which leaves it dry and itchy. but i used Wen and its shiny, manageable, and i can comb through it with ease and i'm not as itchy. i cant wait to try the other products. thank you Chaz! 11-05-08
Reclain Youthful Hair! The first time I tried this product was in a set of 3 different selections. I was interested in all of them, but especially the Green Tea because my scalp is dry. The first time I tried it I didn't use enough - thought I could use less because my hair is short. The next time, I used 12 pumps - a few at a time concentrating on different parts of my scalp. It worked WONDERFULLY . . . I couldn't be happier with my hair, my scalp and the body, shine and bounce my hair has reclaimed due to this product. At the end of my shampoo process I add about 1/2 pump to the ends of my hair and I don't rinse it off - it leaves my hair beautiful. I no longer have a dry scalp, no longer have "frizzies" and have actually let my hair grow a little longer because it is so pretty now!!! The rest of me may be 50, but my hair is 25 again!! ALSO, I only have to wash my hair 2-3 times per week now. I just ordered a jumbo size of the Green Tea. Please try it . . . you'll be happy! 10-30-08
Loved it I debated much before purchasing this, and I'm sorry I waited so long. I have processed hair and always find it difficult putting the moisture back in after shampooing so it doesn't look and feel so dry. I need nothing else with this product. I love the feel of the tea tree on my scalp and my hair is very soft, manageable, bouncy and even will curl easily now. I love it and will continue using it,and I recommend it highly! 10-24-08
SAVED MY SCALP !!!! I was really skeptical about this radical new type of cleansing hair. But, since my scalp itched constantly, I decided to give it a try based on other reviews. Not only has it helped my itching scalp, it has also helped my color treated hair. It is shiny, the color lasts and lasts, and it is so manageable now. I was new to color treated hair since I recently turned gray, and all the other shampoos on the market made my color treated hair feel coarse and made it difficult to style. Thank goodness for WEN. My hair feels just like it did when I was young once again. Thanks WEN !! 10-20-08
Helps Dry Scalps! I bought this for my husband whose scalp is dry, flaky, itchy. He has tried everything, including prescription shampoos. Nothing helped. After just one use, he said his scalp feels great! His gray hair looks shiny, too. I tried it & my hair was soft & shinier, but it left my hair flat. Perhaps I need to try another WEN variety to get more body. 09-05-08
Thank You! This product has done wonders for me! I had severe flaking and itchy scalp and tried dandruff products only to have my hair feel like straw. I've been using this for about two weeks and my scalp rarely itches and my flakes are nearly gone! Plus my dull, dry hair feels so soft now! I air-dry my hair and now my natural waves look good! Since you need to use so much on longer hair I wish the pump would dispense more product per pump so that you didn't need to pump the bottle so much, but that is a minor thing compared to how great my hair looks and my scalp feels. I follow the directions exactly and use about 45-50 pumps on my near waist-length hair. I don't mind the scent, to me it's a bit minty-menthol smelling which I find nice. 08-26-08
pretty good conditioner, but NO Tea tree in it I would say as a conditioner it's better than average. I bought the Tea Tree because that helps with my dry scalp. I noticed my scalp was acting up and low and behold there is not actually anything Tea Tree in this product. If it's not in the product take it out of the name! 07-28-08
dull hair Not impressed with this tree tea made my hair very dull with no shine at all this will be going back. 06-15-08
