Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who can use the BEACHWAVER?
A: It can be used on all hair types as long as it's human hair (sorry, no synthetic extensions!). The digital temperature clock can be set anywhere from 310–450°F and should be adjusted based on your hair type.
Q: How does the "GO" button work?
A: The "GO" button controls the most amazing feature of the BEACHWAVER: the rotation! When you hold the button, the iron rotates. When you let go of it, it stops rotating.
Q: How do I stop the "GO" button?
A: Just remove your finger from the button and the rotation will stop.
Q: Which direction does the BEACHWAVER rotate?
A: By tapping or holding the "GO" button, the curling iron will rotate in the direction you've selected (either "R" for your right side or "L" for your left side).
Q: Can it slow down?
A: Yes! By holding down the "L" button for eight seconds, the display will blink "LO." This changes the function of your iron to a lower speed. To return to the normal speed, just press the "R" button for eight seconds until the display blinks "HI."
Q: How can I avoid hitting the "GO" button when clamping my hair?
A: The best way to avoid accidentally hitting the "GO" button is to tap it until the clamp is directly above it, and then place your hair in the clamp. You'll be able to see the button so you don't accidentally press it.
Q: What temperature should I set my BEACHWAVER to?
A: The BEACHWAVER has a digital temperature clock you can control. Sarah always recommends adjusting the temperature to fit your hair needs. Follow these general guidelines:
Q: Why aren't the +/- temperature buttons working?
A: They are! The BEACHWAVER actually has a button-locking system. After five seconds, the temperature-adjusting buttons lock. To adjust the temperature again, press the power button for one second.
Q: How do I know if the clamp is facing me?
A: On your right side, the clamp should face the direction of your face (or mirror). On your left side, the clamp should also face the direction of your face (or mirror).
Q: Why am I getting kinks where I clamp my hair down?
A: Sarah designed the clamp to avoid kinks when curling, so follow the information above to make sure you're placing your hair in the clamp when it's facing you. Also, be sure to hold the iron vertically, which makes it easier to clamp your hair.
Q: How can I make it easier to find the "GO" button after I've clamped my hair?
A: Before you clamp your hair, tap the "GO" button so the clamp is directly above it. It'll make it super simple to find the button with every curl.
Q: What does "L" and "R" mean?
A: "L" should be selected when you're curling the left side of your hair, and "R" should be selected when you're curling the right side.
Q: Can I create different types of curls?
A: Yes! The BEACHWAVER can be used to create looser or tighter curls depending on the size of your hair sections. There are many different ways to use it once you become a pro. Sarah loves to create waves inspired by old Hollywood for big fashion events.
Q: How should I hold the BEACHWAVER?
A: Hold it in a vertical position away from your face. There's no need to turn your wrist or the iron because the rotational device does all of the work for you!
Q: Will it damage my hair?
A: The BEACHWAVER has customized heaters with a protective ceramic rod. Sarah designed it to reach the maximum professional heat of 450°F, but that's not the right temperature for everyone! Follow her guidelines above to protect your hair.
Q: How do I curl the back of my hair?
A: Separate your hair down the middle in the back and bring it all forward. When you divide your hair into "left" and "right" sides, there's no back!
The Beachwaver Co. was founded in 2010 by celebrity hairstylist Sarah Potempa. Sarah's styled hair for the covers of magazines, movie premieres, ad campaigns, celebritiesand even the President! She often found herself explaining the complex process for achieving beachy waves to editors and felt there had to be an easier way. So she sketched out an idea for the Beachwaver, the first-ever rotating curling iron.
Sarah enlisted the aid of her sisters and a team of engineers, and, after two years of research and development, the Beachwaver PRO was launched in early 2012. This pioneering tool quickly became an editors favorite, stylists go-to, and savior for everyday women. Pursuing a vision to teach all women how to style their hair like a celebrity, the Beachwaver Co. team continues to grow their line of innovative and easy-to-use hair tools.
