HOWE TO ASSUME ROLE OF EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND
CHIEF MERCHANDISING OFFICER AFTER TRANSITION PERIOD
WEST CHESTER, Pa. (October 7, 2008) – QVC, Inc. announced today that Doug Howe will return to the company as executive vice president of design, development and global sourcing, effective October 20, 2008. He will later assume the role of executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, effective 2009.
Howe first joined QVC in 2001 as vice president of merchandising, fashion and beauty. Among his many accomplishments in this position, Howe played an instrumental role in leading the continued growth of QVC’s fashion business, as well as furthering the development and refinement of many of the company’s proprietary programs. Additionally, Howe identified and introduced a number of select, upscale national brands that helped to strengthen QVC’s role as a leading beauty and fashion retailer.
“Doug brings the right combination of experience, pioneering spirit and energy to QVC,” said Claire Watts, QVC’s president of U.S. commerce, to whom Howe will report. “His commitment to excellence is a natural fit with the QVC culture, and I’m confident he will lead our merchandising team to great success.”
Bringing more than 20 years of merchandising experience to QVC, Howe most recently served as executive vice president of product design and development for Old Navy. In this role, he implemented a new product-to-market process. He also played a key role in revising Old Navy’s brand positioning and championed a talent management strategy for the entire Design organization.
Prior to Old Navy, Howe joined Wal-Mart in 2005 as vice president of apparel product development, and was later promoted to senior vice president, responsible for the strategy, design and development of Wal-Mart’s apparel business. His responsibilities eventually broadened to include all general merchandise for Wal-Mart’s private brands.
Howe earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.
