Rated 4 out of 5 by HHB Great rice, but requires commitment
I like this, but knew what the product was going to do before I bought it. A few comments for those thinking of buying it. First and foremost, this is a very Japanese rice cooker. It's designed to make a slightly sticky Japanese/Chinese-style white rice or really sticky short-grain sushi rice. To come up with a dryer long grain rice or to cook brown rice requires some experimentation. For fluffy long grain or Basmati, use less water and pop the lid when it's done. The instructions say that rice needs to pre-soak for 1/2 hour in warmer weather and for 2 hours in the winter! This contributes to the stickiness. Also, don't let it sit on the "warmer" setting too long because the rice will get softer.
The non-stick pot is easy to clean. But it's a little difficult to clean the inside of the cooking unit, which gets a little grubby after a few uses. There are also a couple of twiddly little bits that need to be popped out and washed.
