Total Gym Platinum Plus w/8 Attachments & 4 DVDs
DVD's For Total Gym not for specific machines
It was delivered with no problem. The reviews were right....it was a bit quirky to put together. And the Basic DVD is really not very helpful. It would be best if you got DVD's that were for your specific BRAND or VERSION of the system. As many items the trainers used where very different. But, after a bit you do figure out what part is what and how to use your version. All that Said. I love the machine and am looking forward to busting some pounds.
I was excited about my new Total Gym until I opened the box. My new Total Gym looked "wimpy". I wanted to own a Total Gym for some years now. I looked at one a co-worker was selling and it was well made and heavy (she had it 6 yrs). But when the chance of getting a brand new one for $299 came up, I couldn’t resist. To make matters worse, I put in the training videos. In the videos, the attachments were designed different, the board wider and the frames looked much sturdier. I know you get what you pay for but I thought Total Gym would be the exception. I will however keep it due to the bulkiness of trying to return it. The board is so narrow I just have to be careful and not fall off (it gets off track too). I tell my four boys to be careful when they use it knowing how boys can be with things (ages 12-23). My husband is still deciding whether to use it. He doesn't want to break it for my sake. I am not fully confident it will hold up to all of us. Maybe I should have bought from co-worker(?).
This equipment is easy to assemble and put together. I have only been using the total gym for about a week, but my pants are already loose. I would recommend this item to anyone wishing to get in shape, loose weight or maintain their current body. QVC had great delivery, I received the item before the scheduled delivery date! I highly recommend this product!
Love this item would recommend to family and friends. has strength my arms. very easy to use.
Absolutely love this total gym. I have had it for almost a month now and everyone can see a difference in my body. Love doing crunches on here and I Hate crunches. It's a must have.
broken upon arrival
Very disappointed with the fact that one of the plastic roller wheels was broken in half. This made it impossible to use the machine. Stronger material is needed. I am surprised that the manufacturer doesn't heed the numerous reviews that have the exact complaint.
Good Deal from QVC
I previously owned a Weider Total Body Works 5000, which I used religiously for about 6 years. I liked it a lot and it was a great value for the money paid; however, I gave it to a friend when I needed to move from the Midwest to the Southeast.
For the past several months I had maintained a gym membership but didn’t like the hassle of driving to the gym, finding parking in the crowded lot, getting dressed in appropriate gym wear, waiting my turn to use equipment, and paying the expensive fees, so I decided to go back to the home gym routine, which I find a lot more satisfying, time saving, and convenient. Additionally, just the savings in gas and wear & tear on the car driving to a gym several times per week will pay for the purchase in about a year or so.
When I saw the Total Gym Platinum Plus advertised on QVC for under $300, I did a lot of online research and decided this would be a bit of a step up from the Weider. I haven’t been disappointed. The Total Gym arrived just a few days after I ordered it (standard shipping), required very little set up, and seems to be a quality-made product.
While the Weider was a very solid and durable product as well, I did have problems with the handgrips and cable breaking and the pulleys squeaking over time. Looking at the construction of these items on the Total Gym Platinum Plus, I’m not expecting the same issues. However, if the main cable were to need replacement, it appears that would be simpler to do on the Total Gym than it was on the Weider.
What really sold me on the Total Gym over another Weider though was the ease of storing the unit when needed (although we normally leave it out and set up in a spare guest room), and the ease of changing the incline of the glideboard. Additionally, I like the way various attachments can be easily added or removed, allowing for some additional exercise variations not possible with the Weider. (I particularly like the ab crunch and leg pulley accessories.) Additionally, the Total Gym Platinum Plus comes with a much better range of exercise instructions than the Weider does. I started with the intermediate program included in the printed instructions, and I must say, it gives me a much better overall workout than I was getting doing equipment circuit training on much more expensive equipment at the upscale gym I was going to. My wife follows the video instructions and prefers those, so it is nice to have both included.
The one thing the Weider has which the Total Gym doesn’t is the bungee cords for adding extra resistance. I found that I only used those on the Weider for the leg squat exercise, but the bungee cords were very helpful in that particular instance. For now I work around that on the Total Gym by just using one leg at a time rather than using both legs at the same time, but I may end up configuring my own bungee cords or weights at some point when that becomes too easy.
In a previous review someone said if you can afford the Total Gym, get that, but if not, get the Weider. I would agree with that assessment. Either one will provide a good quality workout, but the Total Gym is a bit nicer in many small ways and I’m very glad I made the decision this time to go that route. If you are hesitating buying either one, my advice is to do it now. You’ll be glad you did!
Great ... But Beware ...
This is a great piece of equipment ... But beware. It's not ready-to-use when you get it. It does require assembly. And it weighs a ton! I'm relatively young and pretty strong. But this thing was extremely difficult to haul in and assemble. And read the instructions carefully so you know what pieces to use and use safely. Ensure you use all the safety pins. More to this 'gym' than meets the eye.
Received my Total Gym, and 3 of the 4 wheels were broken. Cannot use it in this condition. So now it is really a large, heavy, expensive paper weight. Decided to check out one of the DVD's, just to see how it would work. The machine on the DVD's is a very high end machine, not at all like the one I purchased. Maybe a DVD should be made for this machine, so you can truly follow along! Wished I would have saved my money.
One of tthe best purchases I ever made
I am technically illiterate so it too me some time to figure out the attachments. It took me a week to figure out what they were for and where they go. I was so pleased with myself after and even though I thought i would send it back at first because it looked cumbersume and difficult to figure out, it folds up nicely and is and incredible piece of durable machinery and I get an incredible workout. I Feel Great everyday!!! Thank you QVC!!
Wish I had purchased it 10 years ago!
I purchased the Total Gym in February 2014. My husband and I both use it almost daily. We both think it is the greatest for home work-out and wish we had purchased it much sooner in our lives. The Total Gym makes us both feel great (and we are seniors)!!!
The total gym offers a great total body workout while having fun doing it. The workout dvd's are great also!
