K1019 - Technique Cast Aluminum 6.5qt. Stovetop Smoker w/Accessories
Love this style of Smoker
I received the 8 qt size of this same smoker and I love it, love it.
So far I've done chicken thighs using the apple chips one time and the hickory chips another. Apple chips make it smell and taste like you just walked into a restaurant that smokes their own meat. I also sliced and smoked some potatoes with the apple, very light taste. Hickory chips are a much lighter taste and smell. I used some reviewers' suggestions and spray the food rack both sides with non-stick spray, This smoker is super easy to clean. Althougth the pot looks very heavy it is light. Going to try smoking some veggies. One thing I do is I go longer than it says in the booklet, so for a rack of chicken thighs, I set the elec. stove at (where 5 on the clock face would be) and wait til I hear a slight popping sound and smell the chips(cuz I can't seem to see any puffs of smoke), then I put the lid on and time cook for 32 minutes, don't open at all, then turn stove off and let sit covered in same spot for another 32-40 min. Good rule of thumb, how long you initially cook it then leave covered, stove off, the same amount of time or just a tad longer. The chicken will have a very light looking appearance but is cooked thru and stays juicy and yummy. I'll be using this smoker every day or 2, also want to try smoking food using herbs instead of chips (idea from the booklet). The smoked taste is not a heavy smoked flavor so it will be interesting to use up the sample chips and start using some fresh. No fuss cooking !
I had purchased this a few years ago. Forgot about it. We started using it in the fall and haven't stopped. Hamburgers, chicken (whole and boneless breast, pork roast, steaks, fish, and on and on.
We have been so happy with this item and so have our guest.
great purchase, great food
Husband loves this one and I love the food that comes out of it. Great preparation for smoked salmon. So easy and so little clean up. We love the outdoor charcoal grill, but in the dead of winter, you can't beat this on top of the stove.
SMOKES SMALL, LIGHT FOOD GREAT, BUUUUT
I purchased this some time ago. I have used it several times. I recently, used it to smoke baby back ribs and a roast. I smoked both separately, in addition to using a good portion of smoking chips each time, but neither had much of a smoky flavor. Prior to smoking roasts & ribs, I had smoked shrimp and fish and both came out very smoky and flavorful. The stovetop smoker is good for smoking light, small food such as shell fish, fish and maybe smaller portions of meat, BUT nothing heavy, it will not have that true smoke flavor.
Absolute Best Stovetop Smoker Available
I got this smoker about a year ago. The only problem I've had, is the coating on the food grate is starting to release. I do not know if a replacement grate is available.
Now for the good....... I've cooked a 4Lb chicken as per instructions and it came out perfect. Checked joints with thermometer. But the real test was moving to a platter. The bird fell apart(in a good sense) and was NOT dry. I've cooked boneless skinless chicken breasts, pork loin roasts, chicken drummies and wings, onions, carrots and salmon. Oh that salmon. If you buy this for salmon only, it's well worth the money.By the way, everything I've cooked was thawed out.Clean up is as easy as you want it. The steps I use after trial and error is....... 1) Put a tin foil liner in the drip pan, bringing it up the sides a little. 2) Spray the food grate with olive oil(or the release agent of your choice) prior to placing the food on(since I started doing this, no more grate coating has been released). Then clean up is a snap. Extra chips are available at sporting goods stores for a good price(apple is my favorite).I also use a LOT more chips than it says in the instructions, so I do get a smoke smell in the kitchen area. Goes away in about a day. Not that strong anyway.I use about half of one of the cups that came with it each time. My advice to you if you can't stand the smell of smoke, is to cook it in the garage, however you'll need a heat source. I bought the Cooks Essentials Halogen stove top burner. Workes excelent. Smoker fits like it's made for the burner. Cooking times are the same. I have used different stovetop smokers but this is the absolute best. I need this type of unit, because I live in a Townhouse. Now......... "Get Smokin"
Awesome Alternative to Grill
As a condominium owner, I ordered this in hopes of satisfying my desire for grilling, without the hassle of "no grilling allowed." It worked. I have ;used this over and over for steaks, chops, chicken, and even ribs. They have all been extremely tasty and juicy. Even though I have become a homeowner with a grill, this smoker has become a staple in my kitchen. Have even given this as a gift and the recipients thought it was "cool."
I bought this when it was a TSV and think it is a great option for cooking something different. I use it often, probably once a week. I especially like to smoke ribs in it. The only problem I have is cleaning it....maybe I'm just a little picky. The meat tastes REALLY great out of it. I would like it if the Q would offer us a set of replacement wood chips to go with the cooker when we need them.
We love this smoker, I don't think a week goes by it doesn't get used. Our favorite meal to smoke is a lemmon herb cornish hen. Just put a whole lemmon (poke a few holes in it) in the cavitly of a hen, season with lemmon pepper. And baste with lemmon juice and butter. And let it smoke. Yummm.
This is one great smoker!
I am vegetarian, so you might wonder what I'd want with a smoker, but I love this one and use it often. In the past, I've owned a Little Chief cold smoker and a small stovetop one as well. This is far and away the best! I'm partial to hickory smoke, so that's all I use.
By the way, you can buy more smoker chips at any hardware, big box, or other store that sells Little Chief smokers. $5 will get you a lifetime supply. Or you can mail order it.
I have an electric range, so I start mine at medium-high to get the chips/slivers smoking. You can smoke pretty much anything well in this, though you might need to play around with times, as has been mentioned. Be sure to try your favorite recipe for baked beans and for macaroni and cheese in this smoker -- delicious!
Easy Cooking - Great Results
I bought this on QVC quite awhile ago and forgot about it in my cabinet. Then last week I made a small boneless ham and pulled it out. It was the easy and the ham came out delicious!!! Its now going to be something I use to smoke all sorts of things. Great for smoking for two and leaving some leftovers. Quick and easy cleanup too!!!!
This really works!
I got this smoker for my husband as he loves to smoke meats. It really worked and we were both pleasantly surprised. NO smoke in the house at all, and so much easier than the outdorr smokers. I do recommend to everyone, and a very unusual gift. The meat tastes great too.
Great to have
I love this product. We make pot roast in it a lot. The smoker does all the work. I've cooked frozen asparagus too and it took way less time than boiling. You have to play with the cook times that are listed for the item you're cooking since it depends on the size. I've used fresh herbs such as garlic chives along with the wood chips. Delicious! Where can I get more wood chips.
