Q: This tool is so small! How does it work?
A: The XL7 has been efficiently designed. The goal was to minimize size so that it could be conveniently carried and easily used by anyone.
Q: How can something so lightweight be durable?
A: This tool is made of ABS plastic, which is a durable polymer plastics.
Q: How can something so small actually break glass?
A: It can be fairly easy to break tempered automobile glass with the right kind of tool because it's designed to shatter upon impact. This product has a spring-loaded hardened steel pin inside that shoots out just far enough to puncture the glass surface which causes the glass to shatter.
Q: Can I test the glass-breaking feature?
A: Yes, but do not test on actual glass. If you want to see how the glass breaking pin works, place the tool with the pointed end face down onto a thick magazine or pad of paper, and push until you hear a loud snap. There will be a little impression or hole where the pin impacted the surface. That is enough concentrated force to help break windshield or side window auto glass.
Q: I think this is too big to carry on my key ring. Where else can I keep it?
A: It's important to keep the BodyGard XL7 within arm's reach while in a vehicle. Some places you can keep it include the sun visor arm, rearview mirror, arms on the steering wheel column, etc. You can also use the key ring provided. See the instruction sheet (included) for more information.
Tip: using a spring-loaded staple remover is an easy way to open or separate the key ring during assembly.
Q: How can I get the alarm to shut off?
A: The sonic alarm has a safety feature so that if it's used in an attack, the attacker may not be able to easily turn it off. The secret is to press the button and hold down for 2–3 seconds until it shuts off. Repeated pressing of the button will not shut it off.
Q: Should I replace the tool if I use it in an emergency situation?
A: Because it's impossible for anyone to imagine the circumstances under which you may have to use this tool (i.e. underwater, in a fire, etc.), it has been suggested to replace the tool after emergency use. This is just a suggested precaution because there are too many environmental variables to consider. Most people hope they will never have to use it but are glad that they have it in case it is needed!
