Blurry pics ..Doesnt work with JVC camcorders!
I was looking forward to this item. In fact, it arrived today and I immediately opened the box. My first recording was off my SD card of a DSLR camera. The pictures off the SONY recorder came out very pixelated which seemed blurry. Even my daughters pointed that out to me. I tried to record off my JVC camcorder that was off a hard drive and I guess its not compatible bec. it just said No input signal. That was my primary use of the SONY recorder. It did, however work perfectly off my old VCR tapes. I had my 18 year wedding reception vhs tape ready to record and it came out fine. The total time of my video was 1h 44 minutes and it had to take 2 dvd's. I was hoping it would be on just 1.
I really like JVC products and wish JVC would make something like this instead.

Don't listen to negative reviews - This is Amazing
I purchased this about a year ago here at QVC, I transferred all of my home movies without an issue at all...then I started advertising I would do it for others, a business was born :) I charge a very low fee and have transferred hundreds of home videos for others, have made my money back from this purchase ten times over.
I have had NO issues with quality, regardless of how many hours of footage the machine is set at, No issues with hook up to any device and NO issues at all. Hundreds of uses later it is still like the day I purchased it.
If you have home videos, I strongly recommend this product. The most inexpensive place to transfer for you is $25 so this pays for itself in no time. Who knows, maybe this could be your "extra money" business as well? I just advertisted and boom, I was amazed at the number of people that need this done.
Do not hesitate, I am totally satisfied with this product!

Good, but not great
I bought this primarily to get the video off the hard drive of my Canon HD camcorder. It was very easy to use. I recorded on the highest quality (HQ) and got about 1 hour of video on each DVD. Watching the DVD, the footage did not look like it was recorded on an HD camcorder. The picture was grainy, but okay. At least now I can make DVD's to share with relatives. Also, I tried recording the video off an SD card directly into the unit, and it did not work. It kept saying "memory card error". So I don't know if it will read video off a Canon camcorder memory card. But when I put the SD card back into the camcorder and ran the cables, it worked fine. Overall, this will save you money in the long run, but just don't expect HD capability.

So Disappointed
The problem is, no one promoting this product tells you, if are going to record/copy bought VHS movies, that there is a copy write issue...Out of my collection of atleast 300 movies, only 10% were copied. Because this process took more then thiry days, I could not return the DVDirect. Also any movie over two hours long, the copy quality is very bad. It does copy any home movies etc. nicely. I was very disappointed.

I WOULD RECOMMAND THIS TO ANYBODY THAT LIKES TO RECORD FROM A VCR OR TO COPY MOVIES, IT IS VERY GOOD AND I LIKE IT.

Works great if you have required cables
My camcorder did NOT have the required DV cable. I checked at WalMart, Best Buy, K-mart and was ready to send back the DVDirect when I finally found the cable at Radio Shack for $30. I was able to copy my son's 15 soccer mini tapes in about 2 days. They are good quality. He and his friends enjoyed reliving the games as they watched on tv. I have not used it for any other type of recordings. It was very useful to be able to see what I was recording. The DVDirect rewinds the camcorder mini tape automatically without pressing any camcorder buttons. I feel this unit is a little pricey, but the mini tapes had never been viewed since recording. Now, we can watch them easily.

This is so easy to use. Turn it on, Put in a dvd, plug in where you want to make a copy from, record.
You can even view what you are recording on the screen.
GREAT item. Wish I could have found this years age.

It Saves So Many Memories
This is amazing!! After I finally realized that inorder to transfer vcr tapes to dvds all you have to do is put the plugs that are color coded into the box and then to a vcr, that is not hooked up to anything. I was trying to use the one hooked up to the tv and dvr box. It is so easy to put all my old vcr tapes on dvds. You know they are now preserved and you no longer have to keep and store those old vcr tapes that are loosing their quality anyway. Also it's so easy to just put your memory card in the side of the unit, wait a minute until it copies the pictures and push yes if you want to make a slide show. So much easier than trying to figure out how to burn them from the computer. When you are done you have all of them on a dvd for just the cost of the dvd and you can get those in bulk at a really reasonable price. All of this can be done in the comfort of your own home, don't have to go to a store. One important thing is make sure that you "Finalize" anything that you copy inorder to be able to play the dvd on dvd players. The directions for this are in the information that come with the recorder. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to preserve memories.

A Great product!
This product is so easy to use right out of the box! Very efficient. Only QVC would supply the blank DVD's and the cord for the same low price! I love all the things it can do and I don't have to take up space on my computer to burn a disc. Thanks QVC!

Saving Memories
Seen this many times and would always say next time but I finally gave in and bought it. Wished I would not have waited so long. Very easy to use. In one weekend I took all our old vhs and transferred them over to DVD. Early 80's to Christmas of 2011 is now on DVD and they take up much, much, less room. Don't wait to buy this it is a great investment.
