Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum and one of the most popular and valuable gemstones. Pure corundum is colorless, but even small amounts of impurity atoms can impart a range of vivid colors. Chromium is responsible for the deep red color of ruby. A major source of rubies in the 1970s and '80s was Thailand, near the Cambodian border. The stones are typically brownish-red to purplish-red, almost garnet-like in color. They are darker than those from Burma (the most important source for fine rubies) and are commonly heat-treated to produce a purer red color. This 3.89-carat cushion-cut ruby, set in an 18K white gold ring, is from Thailand. It's accented with four emerald-cut and eight round brilliant-cut diamonds.

They Grab My Hand And Sigh !! Purchased this beautiful ring a year ago. I'm a senior citizen who works the Front Desk at Holiday Inn. This ring sparkles even now. I receive many, many compliments on it as I constantly have my hands in front of guests for signature and passing them their keys. Most repeated remark is "Is it real?", to which I reply with a smile, that it is a 'copy' of a fine, rare Smithsonian Thai ruby ring. Fortunately for me, they only see the top. The underside is now wearing through and the copper color is showing where the 'silvertone' has worn off. It was well worth the costume jewelry price considering all the enjoyment it has given me and others this last 14 months of very frequent wear. Let's see how long it will cause my guest's, who can afford fine jewelry, to pull my hand towards them to get a better look, as they sigh with admiration. 12-13-12

Pretty I wanted this as a kind of celebration of our baby girl who was born in July of this year. It's a very pretty piece with a bit of a larger presence and I wear it often. Over all a good purchase if you're looking for something in a simulated ruby and don't want to spend a lot. 11-28-12

Pretty I think this is a really pretty ring, but it just doesn't look 'real' enough for me. The red is a very clear, sharp red & the stones sparkle. It just doesn't look real enough for me. 08-08-12

Stunning and Elegant! My mom just turned 88 years old and wanted a ruby ring, which is her birthstone. She occasionally misplaces things so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a ring. I bought this ring for her and she hasn't taken it off since. My mom usually returns every gift we buy her but I don't think that I will be seeing this ring returned anytime soon! Red Ruby Love!!! This ring is so pretty, My stone is a nice deep red and the clear stones around it are great. This is not a big ring but just the right size to be real. I really was happy with this piece and it looks great with my real rubies. I have none of the problems others did. I have bought a lot in this line. Fits true to size for me I wear a 7 and bought a 7, This ring is a 10 in my book. Great job. 12-31-11

Just Beautiful Received this ring today. WOW! Got it for my daughter for Christmas..It is true to size and I love the ruby color. It is a STUNNING RING! I hope the gold finish on the band last. Ordered it on the 17th and it came today...thank you QVC! 12-23-11

Pretty But I have natural Burma rubies and the color did not match as described. Strangely enough the ring did even match the "created" ruby pendant I purchased from QVC before. 12-15-11

Fell In Love.... I previewed a few of the new Smithsonian items on QVC.com before the live show came on, so I saw this ring before it was presented on air. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. When it arrived, I fell in love all over again. This is even more gorgeous in person than online or on TV. It feels comfortable to wear, and catches the light beautifully. I agree with the other reviewer who used the word regal. It certainly looks that way! This ring looks and feels truly special. I wish QVC would have included the Smithsonian box I'd gotten in May, with the simulated Hooker yellow diamond ring, and I hope they go back to using those. It makes the presentation just a little more special. But that doesn't take away from the beauty of this ring! Still in love! :) 12-10-11

Simply Stunning! I have always wanted a Ruby ring but could never afford one before. This reproduction is just gorgeous. The color is a deep vibrant red and the simulated baguettes enhance the color of the simulated gemstone. I will enjoy wearing this ring so much. Thank you QVC. 12-10-11

Regal This ring is absolutely gorgeous! My only concern is that it will keep its beautiful look since it is silvertone and not sterling. I am a July baby and really wanted a nice looking ruby ring. This one fits the bill and you can't beat the price. 12-08-11
