About Rachael Ray

It comes as no surprise that Rachael Ray is a household name in the kitchen. After all, her passion for the culinary craft surfaced at a very early age. “My first vivid memory is watching my mom in a restaurant kitchen. She was flipping something with a spatula. I tried to copy her and ended up grilling my right thumb! I was 3 or 4,” she says. Today, Rachael insists that cooking is a way of life she was simply born into.

Growing up in a family steeped in culinary tradition, Rachael was exposed to a wide range of cooking techniques. The Ray family owned several restaurants in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, before relocating to upstate New York, where her mother worked as the food supervisor for a restaurant chain. Rachael soon moved to New York City to work at Macy’s, first at the candy counter and then as a manager for the Fresh Foods Department, which she credits for her education in gourmet foods. After Macy’s, Rachael helped open Agata & Valentina, the prestigious New York gourmet marketplace where she was the store manager and buyer.

Despite the exciting lifestyle in the foodie circles of New York City, Rachael decided to move back to upstate New York and start managing pubs and restaurants at the famed Sagamore Resort on Lake George. From there, she was recruited by Cowan & Lobel, a large gourmet market in Albany, as their food buyer and, eventually, their “chef.”
As a way to increase grocery sales during the holidays, Rachael created a series of cooking classes, which exploded in popularity. The CBS station in Albany-Schenectady, WRGB-TV, discovered Rachael and signed her on to do a weekly “30-Minute Meals” segment for the evening news. The segment was a major success, with a companion cookbook selling 10,000 copies locally during the holidays. With that, a franchise was born!

Now Rachael enjoys her status as an iconic Food Network television personality, best-selling cookbook author, and editor-in-chief of her own lifestyle magazine. In the fall of 2007, she launched Rachael Ray, her hugely successful syndicated daytime talk show.

Showcasing Rachael’s warmth, energy, and boundless curiosity, the show — produced by CBS Television Distribution and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions — invites viewers to experience life the Rachael Ray way. Credited with getting America back in the kitchen with her easy approach to cooking, Rachael takes the same philosophy with her show — finding simple solutions to everyday problems, both in the kitchen and beyond.

“My life has been a total accident — a very happy, wonderful accident that I didn’t and couldn’t have planned,” says Rachael. Despite her growing celebrity she’s determined to stay grounded and hold on to her down-to-earth values. Rachael still spends as much time as she can at her cabin in the Adirondacks with her husband, John, her family — the “research team” — and her beloved pit bull, Isaboo.

Wish I'd Ordered Sooner Both my husband and myself use this skillet. Clean up is a breeze and nothing sticks. Wonderful product. Wish we had a whole set! 01-05-15
not as expected Purchased this to replace my cooks essentials bacon pan that I had for many years ( it wore out from much use). This pan is much too thin on the bottom to cook properly. Only the center of the pan cooks evenly and the outer edges are left uncooked and not just a little undercooked. The glass lid is a bit heavy for the bacon. Overall, since I previously had purchased a great pan, my reference is based on that pan and this Rachel Ray pan is not a great purchase. I really wanted it to be good but I was very disappointed. 09-29-14
Didn't last Not impressed with this Frypan. The press was useless, I would have rather had a lid for it. The pan itself didn't last, the finish scraped off easily after only just a few months. This was my first purchase of Rachael Ray and it will be my last. 06-25-14
Only Fair I purchase this to be used as a bacon skillet, but the press is much too heavy for bacon, unless you like bacon with the texture of potato chips. I wish I were kidding, but sadly, I am not. The pan itself also has "cool spots" - in the four corners, (imagine that!). Had the manufacturer bonded a plate to the base to distribute heat better, and offered a lighter press this would have been close to perfect. As it is, I will be passing it on to my daughter-in-law who cooks a lot of chops, hamburgers and steaks. It's fine for those meats, hence the fair rating, and I will continue my search for the right bacon skillet. 05-26-14
Glass Press was chipped I received this in the orange, but was so disappointed that the glass Press was chipped on the edge and very noticably. VERY expensive to return, so I would not recommend or at least be aware you have no control over getting a quality product. 05-14-14
Great purchase! I just bought RR's set of pans and the only thing missing was a more flat pan. The set that I bought was burnt orange color so I bought the orange in this pan and it doesn't go well with the set. This isn't RR's fault - I knew that they weren't the same color and I will keep it anyway. Just a warning to others that they aren't the same. I actually bought it for the pan but we have used the press numerous time (BTW it is very heavy!) and really like it. A good purchase, 04-20-14
Love this pan/press This pan is perfect with press for bacon, which is what I use it for. Six slices of thick bacon fit perfectly and really don't need to be turned over if using the press. I can actually be doing other things in the kitchen while the bacon is cooking. The bacon does not curl, cooks evenly and does not splatter all over. Cooks bacon quickly and the clean up is a breeze. I have used other presses but they were not as good as this one (probably due to the weight). Well worth the price, may get another as a gift. 04-03-14
Rachael Rae Rocks It I have never been disappointed in her products. While there are some pots offered at a lesser price, this one holds up and cleans easily. Love it. 03-30-14
Great pan! I wanted to try the press and I really love the way it cooks bacon. I use the pan for so many things and will keep experimenting with the press. Cleans up great and no sticking. 03-29-14
So Versatile ! So hard finding a square pan without the raised grill, so glad Rachael puts this out! I use it for breakfast lunch and dinner! Perfect for bacon and 4 good sized pancakes, panini and Stir fry! Clean up is a breeze! You will reach for this pan constantly it's a great investment 03-05-14
Love this Frypan!! Love this frypan. It works very good. All of Rachel Rays hard anodized cookware is great. The only thing I will say about this, why isn't the handle on the press the same color as the handle on the pan? We got a blue pan with the blue handle and then the handle on the press is black? I know, that is not a big deal and certainly not a deal breaker, but it is the little things. Clean up is easy. 02-09-14
Perfect Pan Already my favorite go- to pan. Square better than round for just about anything, definitely non-stick so quick cleanup. Worth the price, love it.. 02-09-14
