About Rachael Ray

It comes as no surprise that Rachael Ray is a household name in the kitchen. After all, her passion for the culinary craft surfaced at a very early age. “My first vivid memory is watching my mom in a restaurant kitchen. She was flipping something with a spatula. I tried to copy her and ended up grilling my right thumb! I was 3 or 4,” she says. Today, Rachael insists that cooking is a way of life she was simply born into.

Growing up in a family steeped in culinary tradition, Rachael was exposed to a wide range of cooking techniques. The Ray family owned several restaurants in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, before relocating to upstate New York, where her mother worked as the food supervisor for a restaurant chain. Rachael soon moved to New York City to work at Macy’s, first at the candy counter and then as a manager for the Fresh Foods Department, which she credits for her education in gourmet foods. After Macy’s, Rachael helped open Agata & Valentina, the prestigious New York gourmet marketplace where she was the store manager and buyer.

Despite the exciting lifestyle in the foodie circles of New York City, Rachael decided to move back to upstate New York and start managing pubs and restaurants at the famed Sagamore Resort on Lake George. From there, she was recruited by Cowan & Lobel, a large gourmet market in Albany, as their food buyer and, eventually, their “chef.”
As a way to increase grocery sales during the holidays, Rachael created a series of cooking classes, which exploded in popularity. The CBS station in Albany-Schenectady, WRGB-TV, discovered Rachael and signed her on to do a weekly “30-Minute Meals” segment for the evening news. The segment was a major success, with a companion cookbook selling 10,000 copies locally during the holidays. With that, a franchise was born!

Now Rachael enjoys her status as an iconic Food Network television personality, best-selling cookbook author, and editor-in-chief of her own lifestyle magazine. In the fall of 2007, she launched Rachael Ray, her hugely successful syndicated daytime talk show.

Showcasing Rachael’s warmth, energy, and boundless curiosity, the show — produced by CBS Television Distribution and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions — invites viewers to experience life the Rachael Ray way. Credited with getting America back in the kitchen with her easy approach to cooking, Rachael takes the same philosophy with her show — finding simple solutions to everyday problems, both in the kitchen and beyond.

“My life has been a total accident — a very happy, wonderful accident that I didn’t and couldn’t have planned,” says Rachael. Despite her growing celebrity she’s determined to stay grounded and hold on to her down-to-earth values. Rachael still spends as much time as she can at her cabin in the Adirondacks with her husband, John, her family — the “research team” — and her beloved pit bull, Isaboo.

Love love love it!!! Iv'e owned this set for 3 years now and I tell EVERYONE it's the best investment Iv'e ever made . Love it, love Rachael, and would recommend it to everyone!!! 12-06-13
Film on Pots After using the pots/skillet, there is a "film" that appears that I cannot get rid of. Anyone else have this problem??? 11-28-13
Decent cookware Not exactly what I was hoping for but better than a lot of others out there. I have NOT put mine in the dishwasher so I can't review on that aspect. I never put cookware in a dishwasher. PROS: Nonstick works good Clean up is really easy Love the bright orange handles and lids fit securely CONS: EVERYTHING you splash onto the outside will stain the pan! I have tried several ways to clean it and nothing works. Makes for ugly pans after a short time period :( Despite using approved plastic and wood utensils, little scratch marks are showing up inside. 11-17-13
Professional Quality At An Affordable Price I really love the orange accents on these pieces. Really spruce up a kitchen! The pots are very thick and high quality. I hate the feel of those cheapy thin aluminum ones most packages at this price range give you. 11-17-13
Cooking again I'm cooking more then ever. I love this cookware!! 11-13-13
Great Purchase I bought this because of the variety in the set. I ended up splitting it with my mother. I took the smaller pieces which works for my family of one, and gave the larger pieces to my parents for their family of two. I have found it to be extremely non-stick. My oldest pan given to me by my husband (RIP) is about three years old, and he was replacing my technique stainless steel 500 that was wearing out and could not be replaced by warranty (discontinued). I wasn't too keen on the hard anodized, but after the first use changed my mind. Best (and relatively inexpensive) set I have ever used. I have bought a few of the other items sold separately in the same line. I have not been disappointed with anything. I have had no issue with putting them in the dishwasher occasionally, as one other has mentioned, but a friend of mine had the same issues with the ash looking exterior. My suggestion to her was rubbing the outside with butcher block mineral oil, letting it set for a few days, and then washing it with mild detergent. She said it worked for hers, and brought it back to the original appearance. 07-06-13
Never! My set was not dishwasher safe. I put them in once and ever since they have been ashy and look terrible. I will never trust hard anodized dishes are okay for the dishwasher. Very disappointing! 05-04-13
Best Cookware Ever I purchased this cookware to replace stainless steel cookware I just purchased 2 years ago because they just weren't cutting it.(And they were a great brand they were Emeril, and I had a lifetime warranty) I needed a cookware set that I could cook eggs, grilled cheese, pasta, and chicken without it sticking to the pan. When I tried these pans OMG, I love them. I don't even have to have the heat higher than medium to cook anything(except to boil water) I don't have to grease the pan to cook eggs, or make grilled cheese, and nothing sticks. Rachael, is a life saver, If I only have purchased these years ago. And yes the red looks amazing in my kitchen. Everybody is jealous. Thank you Rachael!! 04-18-13
Love but missing a piece I love this set but could really use a saucepan with stainless steel insert. 03-01-13
Love love love . I bought this set because of the extra fry pans, I love the 12 inch griddle. It has a nice lip to hold in those juices. The oval pan is my favorite everyday pan. 01-22-13
Best Cookware Ever! Heavy weight but not too heavy to use comfortably. Incredible quality and easy to clean. Love the oval pan and small sauce pan with 2 handles. The exterior has a dull finish like matte finish. Easy to keep looking great and doesn't show water spots. I bought this set because of the variety of sizes shapes and more skillets than any other set. You will not be disappointed in the quality. 11-09-12
Best Pans I have owned I love these pots and pans. I bought last years' anodized version and the card that came in the box stated that they cannot go in the dishwasher (or it voids the warranty) so I'm envious of all you folks who buy this new set which the online description says is "dishwasher safe"! The pans clean so easy; I can literally wipe them with a napkin and whatever cooking residue is leftover cleans right out. They cook food evenly and I don't have to add oil unless I want to for taste (or for the recipe), making it fabulous for the health conscious too. Way to go Rachel Ray! My complaint is the orange color of the handles, but for the price I was willing to look past it, and figured they just sit in the cupboard til I use them and then I have lovely serving dishes anyhow so who cares about pan handles? These pans are the best set I've ever owned! 10-11-12
