About Rachael Ray

It comes as no surprise that Rachael Ray is a household name in the kitchen. After all, her passion for the culinary craft surfaced at a very early age. “My first vivid memory is watching my mom in a restaurant kitchen. She was flipping something with a spatula. I tried to copy her and ended up grilling my right thumb! I was 3 or 4,” she says. Today, Rachael insists that cooking is a way of life she was simply born into.

Growing up in a family steeped in culinary tradition, Rachael was exposed to a wide range of cooking techniques. The Ray family owned several restaurants in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, before relocating to upstate New York, where her mother worked as the food supervisor for a restaurant chain. Rachael soon moved to New York City to work at Macy’s, first at the candy counter and then as a manager for the Fresh Foods Department, which she credits for her education in gourmet foods. After Macy’s, Rachael helped open Agata & Valentina, the prestigious New York gourmet marketplace where she was the store manager and buyer.

Despite the exciting lifestyle in the foodie circles of New York City, Rachael decided to move back to upstate New York and start managing pubs and restaurants at the famed Sagamore Resort on Lake George. From there, she was recruited by Cowan & Lobel, a large gourmet market in Albany, as their food buyer and, eventually, their “chef.”
As a way to increase grocery sales during the holidays, Rachael created a series of cooking classes, which exploded in popularity. The CBS station in Albany-Schenectady, WRGB-TV, discovered Rachael and signed her on to do a weekly “30-Minute Meals” segment for the evening news. The segment was a major success, with a companion cookbook selling 10,000 copies locally during the holidays. With that, a franchise was born!

Now Rachael enjoys her status as an iconic Food Network television personality, best-selling cookbook author, and editor-in-chief of her own lifestyle magazine. In the fall of 2007, she launched Rachael Ray, her hugely successful syndicated daytime talk show.

Showcasing Rachael’s warmth, energy, and boundless curiosity, the show — produced by CBS Television Distribution and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions — invites viewers to experience life the Rachael Ray way. Credited with getting America back in the kitchen with her easy approach to cooking, Rachael takes the same philosophy with her show — finding simple solutions to everyday problems, both in the kitchen and beyond.

“My life has been a total accident — a very happy, wonderful accident that I didn’t and couldn’t have planned,” says Rachael. Despite her growing celebrity she’s determined to stay grounded and hold on to her down-to-earth values. Rachael still spends as much time as she can at her cabin in the Adirondacks with her husband, John, her family — the “research team” — and her beloved pit bull, Isaboo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful I am thoroughly enjoying this set so far. They are a dream to cook on and cook with, and they wash beautifully. I personally will never run these through the dishwasher, but I don't do that with any of the pots and pans that I own, so I can't attest to the way they hold up through a dish cycle. I wouldn't recommend running any pot or pan with this kind of enamel through the dish cycle, but I understand the need! The price on these is fantastic, for what you get! I mean, you get a gigantic pan and a steamer and the color is gorgeous! I have not had any issues at all so far, and I highly recommend these to anyone who asks me about them when they come to my house. 02-13-16
Rated 2 out of 5 by very average...nothing special Honestly, this was a very AVERAGE set of pots and pans. I was expecting a lot more. Look, feel, cooking experience etc is about the same as the Walmart pans I was replacing. There are design things I like. The long pot for noodles, and the steamer is awesome...but for the price, I just cant justify it. I am returning my set. 01-19-16
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointed I was very disappointed with this purchase. The handles got very hot and the weight of the pans were very light. Not worth the price! Sending them back. 08-25-15
Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointed in exterior quality I bought these RR cookware because of the handles which are terrific! My disappointment comes from the exterior coating. I bought the red set. But these are not dishwasher safe. I've owned for less than a year and the color is fading on a few pieces and it scratches easily. I've not experienced interior coating issues yet but if I do they will be thrown away. 06-26-15
Rated 1 out of 5 by Horrible threw big pot in the garbage !!!!!! Inside the the big pot all the nonstick enamel chipped was getting in all the food !!!! Had to throw it out in the garbage !!!!! All the food sticks to frying pans, all the handles turned brown !!!!! Very upsetting !!!!! 02-19-15
Rated 1 out of 5 by not worth the warranty I agree with the other reviews. I have had the same problem with the nonstick pealing off. Called the warranty dept and was told I would have to pay to have them shipped back for inspection and replacement. Not only do you pay for the set and the shipping BUT then you have to pay to have them sent back. I like Rachael Ray but very disappointed with her cookware and warranty. 09-17-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rachael Ray Cookware set My wife really loves how the cookware looks and operates. The oval stock pot cooks corn on the cob without having to break ears in half. The griddle pan works well for grilled cheese sandwiches late night. We bought this product to replace the heavy worn out set we had so that we could display on our new rack over our kitchen island. 08-10-14
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor Quality I purchased these in 2011. These pans were good until the nonstick started peeling on my pasta pan. For as expensive as they are this should have never happened. Suggest QVC not sale these until this problem is fixed because I see other reviews have the same issue. 07-03-14
Rated 1 out of 5 by Unexpectedly poor quality.... Disappointing I usually am not the person to buy because of a celebrity name; however, these seemed to have an innovative design. Unfortunately, the durability was not what I expected. This was a bigger purchase for me and I intended to keep these for a long time so I handled them with great care!!! I love the dishwasher but these were hand washed every time (even though my poor husband got annoyed). I used only wood or plastic utensils and they still like look all scratched up. Then one I used solely for boiling and the coating is still peeling all around the top of the pan. Very disappointed :( 06-11-14
Rated 2 out of 5 by worst purchase ever the lining of the pots and pans are peeling. I ahev nothing else to say except i love the color of the set. 04-14-14
Rated 2 out of 5 by flat large skillet I am not one to do reviews but had to in this matter. I purchased this set back in 12/2012 and after just a few months the flat large skillet's bottom just became uneven;to say, making it difficult to cook evenly. I have a flat electrical stove. The covers are also hard to clean around the edges grim just get stuck in it. 04-02-14
Rated 2 out of 5 by Fair The handles get hot which is annoying. I knew when I purchased this set that it was hand wash only. I regret not buying a set that is dishwasher safe. 03-29-14
