About Rachael Ray

It comes as no surprise that Rachael Ray is a household name in the kitchen. After all, her passion for the culinary craft surfaced at a very early age. “My first vivid memory is watching my mom in a restaurant kitchen. She was flipping something with a spatula. I tried to copy her and ended up grilling my right thumb! I was 3 or 4,” she says. Today, Rachael insists that cooking is a way of life she was simply born into.

Growing up in a family steeped in culinary tradition, Rachael was exposed to a wide range of cooking techniques. The Ray family owned several restaurants in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, before relocating to upstate New York, where her mother worked as the food supervisor for a restaurant chain. Rachael soon moved to New York City to work at Macy’s, first at the candy counter and then as a manager for the Fresh Foods Department, which she credits for her education in gourmet foods. After Macy’s, Rachael helped open Agata & Valentina, the prestigious New York gourmet marketplace where she was the store manager and buyer.

Despite the exciting lifestyle in the foodie circles of New York City, Rachael decided to move back to upstate New York and start managing pubs and restaurants at the famed Sagamore Resort on Lake George. From there, she was recruited by Cowan & Lobel, a large gourmet market in Albany, as their food buyer and, eventually, their “chef.”
As a way to increase grocery sales during the holidays, Rachael created a series of cooking classes, which exploded in popularity. The CBS station in Albany-Schenectady, WRGB-TV, discovered Rachael and signed her on to do a weekly “30-Minute Meals” segment for the evening news. The segment was a major success, with a companion cookbook selling 10,000 copies locally during the holidays. With that, a franchise was born!

Now Rachael enjoys her status as an iconic Food Network television personality, best-selling cookbook author, and editor-in-chief of her own lifestyle magazine. In the fall of 2007, she launched Rachael Ray, her hugely successful syndicated daytime talk show.

Showcasing Rachael’s warmth, energy, and boundless curiosity, the show — produced by CBS Television Distribution and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions — invites viewers to experience life the Rachael Ray way. Credited with getting America back in the kitchen with her easy approach to cooking, Rachael takes the same philosophy with her show — finding simple solutions to everyday problems, both in the kitchen and beyond.

“My life has been a total accident — a very happy, wonderful accident that I didn’t and couldn’t have planned,” says Rachael. Despite her growing celebrity she’s determined to stay grounded and hold on to her down-to-earth values. Rachael still spends as much time as she can at her cabin in the Adirondacks with her husband, John, her family — the “research team” — and her beloved pit bull, Isaboo.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Hate It I purchased this set because I had always wanted a Rachel Ray set...... Never again..... I absolutely HATE them. The pans are all warping and Non Stick coating is coming off... I only hand wash them and have been very careful not to use metal utensils.... BIG PRICE AND BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!! 06-30-16

Rated 3 out of 5 by Nice......but Nice set but the 8 quart oval pan warped and now the lid doesn't set on it properly. 01-23-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Set I purchased this set because of two main reasons. First was because the pots and pans I owned were purchased 1 at at time from when I moved out. I felt it was time to finally purchase a nice set. Second was because I really wanted the pasta pot and large skillet. I have a large family so a large pan is sometimes necessary. Now I love the pasta pot, but I actually found the oval skillet has become my favorite pan. I use it for everything from popping popcorn to making chili. (I don't own a microwave so it is also a great size for heating leftovers.) Now for the durability, I have been using these now for about 6 months. I cannot speak to being dish washer safe because I have always had washed. That is mainly because while the pan is still hot I can wipe it with a damp cloth and everything cleans right up. So just a quick soapy rinse is all I have ever needed. I have used metal utensils, sometimes just from laziness when heating leftovers...I just stir the food with the same fork I'll be eating with. The inside of the pans are still fine the hold up well from scratching. However, I have a regular metal coil stovetop and the bottom of my pans are scratched. This has not affected the heating at all, but I would never want to store them from a hanging rack because of this. Heating: These are non-stick so I never put the heat above a medium-high, but I find that the pans still come to a boil quickly and retain their heat. Even the oval pans evenly heat, even though the coils are only in the center of the pan. These are non-stick pans so they are not going to be something I would expect would last a lifetime, but they are holding up great so far. I would definitely recommend them, and I would even purchase this same set again once my lives out it's lifespan. 01-10-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Pots Ever!! Bravo! These are hands down the best pots I have ever owned or used! The only think I would add is a lid for the larger frying pay and maybe a larger round pot -- the large oval pot can feel a bit unwieldy on my round electric burners and probobly sits better on square gas burners... but for ease of use (my use of oils and butter in the frying pans has lessened quite a bit now!) and ease of cleaning! These pots are very forgiving and they seem seriously almost impossible to scratch!! They are WELL worth the price and honestly you will LOVE especially the small oval pan... I even cook my spaghetti in it! 12-04-15
Rated 2 out of 5 by Had Better This set looks great, but it does not do all it states in the description. If you Only Hand Wash you'll probably be okay. The moment I washed in my dishwasher the coating on the skillets started to come off. Very disappointed, I really like the grey put with just a color accent and I do love the pasta pot and the oval fry pan. I wish these were sold "Open Stock" so I could replace the skillet or skillets I wanted. 11-18-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice quality I ordered this cookware set in green and was very pleased when I opened it up and saw the great quality of this set. I used the frying pans immediately, very sturdy and the pot was pretty on the table. I am very glad I purchased this set. 10-22-15
