About Rachael Ray

It comes as no surprise that Rachael Ray is a household name in the kitchen. After all, her passion for the culinary craft surfaced at a very early age. “My first vivid memory is watching my mom in a restaurant kitchen. She was flipping something with a spatula. I tried to copy her and ended up grilling my right thumb! I was 3 or 4,” she says. Today, Rachael insists that cooking is a way of life she was simply born into.

Growing up in a family steeped in culinary tradition, Rachael was exposed to a wide range of cooking techniques. The Ray family owned several restaurants in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, before relocating to upstate New York, where her mother worked as the food supervisor for a restaurant chain. Rachael soon moved to New York City to work at Macy’s, first at the candy counter and then as a manager for the Fresh Foods Department, which she credits for her education in gourmet foods. After Macy’s, Rachael helped open Agata & Valentina, the prestigious New York gourmet marketplace where she was the store manager and buyer.

Despite the exciting lifestyle in the foodie circles of New York City, Rachael decided to move back to upstate New York and start managing pubs and restaurants at the famed Sagamore Resort on Lake George. From there, she was recruited by Cowan & Lobel, a large gourmet market in Albany, as their food buyer and, eventually, their “chef.”
As a way to increase grocery sales during the holidays, Rachael created a series of cooking classes, which exploded in popularity. The CBS station in Albany-Schenectady, WRGB-TV, discovered Rachael and signed her on to do a weekly “30-Minute Meals” segment for the evening news. The segment was a major success, with a companion cookbook selling 10,000 copies locally during the holidays. With that, a franchise was born!

Now Rachael enjoys her status as an iconic Food Network television personality, best-selling cookbook author, and editor-in-chief of her own lifestyle magazine. In the fall of 2007, she launched Rachael Ray, her hugely successful syndicated daytime talk show.

Showcasing Rachael’s warmth, energy, and boundless curiosity, the show — produced by CBS Television Distribution and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions — invites viewers to experience life the Rachael Ray way. Credited with getting America back in the kitchen with her easy approach to cooking, Rachael takes the same philosophy with her show — finding simple solutions to everyday problems, both in the kitchen and beyond.

“My life has been a total accident — a very happy, wonderful accident that I didn’t and couldn’t have planned,” says Rachael. Despite her growing celebrity she’s determined to stay grounded and hold on to her down-to-earth values. Rachael still spends as much time as she can at her cabin in the Adirondacks with her husband, John, her family — the “research team” — and her beloved pit bull, Isaboo.

Very Disappointed I was so excited to purchase a set from RR I figured it would be top of the line. Sadly these are not top of the line and cooking in them isn't a breeze nor is cleaning them. The pots and pans I have from Cooks Essentials are not only cheaper but also of MUCH better quality. I gave it a 2 because I do like the lids and the handles 10-14-11
Very Nice Set! This was my first set of Stainless Steel cookware. I am truly enjoying it. I love that it is dishwasher safe. The pans heat evenly and cooking and clean up is easy. I would love more sizes. 02-15-11
was so excited i was looking forward to this set of pots and pans. i have another set of RR pans. i dont now why, but i cannot get even cooking. the pans seem poor quality to me. was sooo hoping i would love them...i love qvc and rachel! 07-30-10
Personally love them I love love love my new set. I've had it for about 5 months now. They are perfect for someone like me who loves to controlled cooking, which means you pretty much stand over your meal and see it threw. They are weighted well and can take a serious beating form my children, who are learning to cook, but tend to be clumsy, drop ,burn and bang pots. They have held up very well. However I must warn anyone who has never had a stainless steel set before buying, they are not a quick or easy clean. So if you burn something you will regret doing so when it's time to clean up. I use a very old fashion method of cleaning that works like a charm. I simply take hot water, then boil it with a few drops of dawn and within a few mins it will loosen and come right off. The only downfall to this set are there aren't enough pots in my opinion. When i cook i cook great big meals and the size pots i normally use, I don't have enough to do ,what i want. So I've considered ordering another set, but then I'd have to many...So now I'm just going to buy individual pieces. 07-29-10
Love it! I have been using these pots and pans for a week now and absolutely love them! They look and cook great! 06-16-10
Very costly mistake. Although I'm not a "cook", when I needed to replace my cookware I chose Rachel Ray because I thought I could trust it. The set that I received does not clean up well. There is a metallic smell when it is is being washed. Food sticks to the rivets and makes cleanup very difficult. And some foods (like eggs) stick to the pan when cooking, no matter how careful I am with the temperature. This was a very costly mistake. 06-05-10
clean up After having this set of cookware almost 2 weeks now, I am finding that the food removes very easily, but the pans regaurdless of what was cooked leaves marks on the inside of the pan. Very nice set I am just disappointed with the quality of the clean up. 03-14-10
Easy Clean Up I've had these pots for a week now and overall I love them! However, there are certain foods that I've cooked where they stuck to the pan. I made scrambled eggs, boiled rice, and fried bacon and they all stuck to the pan. On the flip side I deep fried onion rings and they came out perfectly and did not stick. This is a process that I will figure out. The clean up in any case is AMAZING!!!! 03-01-10
love it!!! I use this cookware everyday and i love it. Works great and clean up is easy. 02-10-10
Great set...practical I love this cookware set, and I've owned many in my lifetime. I like the deep design and it has a nice weight to it. The silicon on the handles make for a comfortable grip. By all means, give this cookware set a try! 02-10-10
Descent Cookware Finally~ I bought this set with my tax return money. I cook from the show and often get upset that I don't have a good set of pots and pans. The easy pay made things affordable. It was fast shipping and packed nicely. No scratches, and I am so pleased. I am making a spaghetti dinner tonight. I would recommend this product for anyone that loves cooking with Rachael. 02-08-10
Best stainless ever! I got these when Rachael was at QVC in August & am I glad I did! I can truely say that these are the best stainless steel pans I have ever had...let me change that to the best pots & pans I've ever had. I've been married for 35 yrs,so I"ve had a few! LOL I've had virtually no problems with sticking & clean up has been easy. If anything is left behind (gooey sauces, ect) I've just rubbed it with a light "scrubby" pad & then popped in in the dishwasher. They come out beautifully. The only thing I haven't cooked in them is grilled cheese ( they seem to be a little ruff on any pan).I ordered RR's hard anodized pan set for those & for frying eggs.I plan on writing a review for those,too...another great product! In my opinion, if Rachael puts her name on it,you know it will be a quality product. I have many of Rachael's products & they are fantastic! 09-21-09
