LOVE THE CAMERA After spending a couple of weeks reading every review and blog that I could find about the K30, I bit the bullet and ordered it from QVC. Having been a Canon user for almost two decades I really didn't know if I had made the right choice until I received the K30 and fired off a few shots. I have only owned it for a week, but I can say without any reservations that it is the most wonderful camera I have ever owned, and the price here on QVC is like giveaway after seeing that the K30 can do. I will agree with a couple of reviews that I have seen where the person has complained that the K30 is too much camera.... I will say that if you are a complete newbie to the digital SLR world you do have a learning curve, and the 200 page instruction booklet will probably give you fits as it seems to be written for someone with DSRL knowledge. And....it is somewhat of a bummer that while the camera body is weather proof, the lens is not. Except for those warning, the camera is definitely a semi pro camera and will do everything you ask of it and probably more. The feel and weight is fine. The viewfinder bright and clear. I have read that some folks complain about the noise of the shutter...don't know what their problem is...its fine with me. The video option of the K30 is really good...movies crisp and clear (use a tripod) and sound level is fine. I do recommend getting a after market flash for the K30 as the built in flash fires off a strong and harsh light that you cannot bounce and it will not let camera take true colors of what you see. Make sure you buy a P-TTL flash, otherwise it will not work on the K30. So, with all that, this is a great camera, I look forward to using it and will follow up my review in a few weeks and let you all know how its going. 09-08-13
Not the one for us!!! Purchased this for my husband that has the old Pentax camera that uses film. We thought this would be the perfect camera since he has many lenses. Like a previous reviewer stated this camera is for more of a professional than the average person. The first thing it did while we were trying to use it was it kept shutting itself off. Finally after reading and trying different things the camera decided to not take a picture at all. So, we gave up and back it went. 06-29-13
Nice Camera Camera is very easy to use. Owned a Pentax 35mm with multiple lenses so the switch to a DSLR was easy. Lenses I owned are not automatic but are usable on the DSLR I just make the adjustments myself which I was already doing. Overall takes a great picture. 4g card is not enough only held 590 pictures. Have not tried video feature yet but would need a bigger memory card. Case only holds this camera so will need to invest in bigger one to hold the lenses I have for it. Even my husband was able to pick up & start taking pictures right away with few questions. Highly recommend this camera. 06-05-13
Would buy this one again If I had to choose I would choose this camera again. It is very easy to use. The zoom is manual, but I love the way it hugs my hand when I'm holding it. So use to small tiny gadgets that take a decent picture, but to have a great picture that is ideal. I bought this in the blue choice before Christmas & I took pictures with & without the flash to see the difference. WOW! This is great without a flash at night with Christmas lights in the background. Those pictures is what sold me on this camera. Out of everyone's photos this camera took the best, most colorful & clear pictures. Yes it took a few shots to see how to use it, but what camera doesn't. I'm very happy with this purchase & with my new pictures it gives me. 05-29-13
Fantastic camera for new or advanced DSLR user This is a great camera! I researched the Pentax, Canon Rebels and Nikons and chose the Pentax K-30 after finding this one beat out most of the competitors in the same price range as well as a little more expensive models. I was worried I would never figure it out so read the manual first and was able to handle most of the functions immediately. There is definitely a learning curve with any DSLR but nothing a little light reading to get you on your way. These are not point and shoot cameras, unless you want to stay in Auto mode all of the time. This camera only took me a few hours of practicing to get the idea. There are many more in-depth functions that I don't know yet, but that's the fun of my new hobby. Within the first week, I am taking great photos and getting much better shots than ever before with a point and shoot since now I can control shutter speed and aperature. The weather resistant properties it has is a huge plus. I was able to shoot photos in a snowstorm and light rain without worrying. I bike the trails and kayak and this was the best choice for me. I wouldn't be afraid this camera is too hard if you are new to the DSLRs...just read the manual! Thanks QVC for a great price as well. 04-17-13
VERY COMPLICATED Perhaps this is a good camera for someone who knows cameras & I'm sure it takes a great picture but for me it is just too complicated. I wanted a camera that takes good pictures not a new career. This goes back; 04-02-13
not for simple people like me. i found this camera very confusing and difficult to use. i snapped pictures for an hour or so and got just 10 or 12 actual photos. i found the size great for my hands{ i have carpol tunnel and tendenitis}. i wasnt expecting it to be so complicated. would be great camera for a proffesional or someone into cameras. i need something less complicated. just to snap family pictures. im just not ready for a proffesional camera. i went with a inbetween camera best of both worlds and easier to use 03-28-13
Pentax K30 GreaT DSLR Great Digital Camera built very well great options , uses K mount lenses , takes great pics reminds me of older Pentax 35MM and easy to use 03-13-13
Amazing! If your looking for a professional camera that can take amazing pics but fraction of price, check this bad boy out! Pantax doesn't spend much money in advertising like they should but don't be fooled, best camera I ever owned! 03-06-13
Very satisfied!! So my wife I decided to take the plunge and invest in our first DSLR camera. Now 2 weeks later and about 200 or so photos taken we are thoroughly impressed. The Pentax K30 is a nice step up from the various point and shoot cameras we have previously owned. The kit lens is pretty good and decent for landscape but we already looking into a better lens. For the clearance price of $626 we are quite satisfied. 03-04-13
AMAZING I just got this camera and I have not gotten to play with it too much, butt absolutely love it so far. The pictures I have taken are exceptional. It is pretty easy to work and learn. I would definitely recommend this. 03-03-13
Much better than"mid-level" As a Pentax film camera owner back in the dark ages,I knew all about Pentax quality. I researched this camera;read a gazillion reviews from people who bought one,and when QVC offered it up on easy-pay,I knew it was the right time to get one. I am very glad I did. This camera, while being top-notch ,allows me to use all of my Pentax lenses from way back. The only difference is that you have to use"M" settings as the older lenses do not have the capability of auto-focus.No biggie. You can pick up a good macro,or telephoto, or fisheye or any kind of lens to fit this Pentax, from many web sites. So,while getting a new camera,I also have a slew of lenses I can already use. As for the difficulty of using a sophisticated camera like this? There is none. Read the manual, practice, practice and practice, and you will be thrilled with what you can capture. Some folks will not like the fact that there is no "live-view" focusing. That's fine with me.Any of us of a certain age, used nothing but a viewfinder to compose and capture on cameras back in the day. In my opinion, that single factor is what makes this such a great camera, for beginner or photophile alike. It offers the advanced features that a p&s camera,in most cases, can't offer, plus! It teaches you composition as you use it. It feels like the cameras of old and to someone who is a photo fanatic, but who is also living on a fixed-income,this camera came along at a perfect time in my dotage. I am absolutely thrilled with it and besides:I ordered the blue version, and look way cool!! Kidding. But I would suggest anyone who wants to start the hobby,or anyone fully-versed in the hobby, get this camera. You cannot go wrong. 02-28-13
