Why is the Sleeping Beauty Turquoise almost free of matrix or markings in the stone?
For Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, we closely monitor the range of blue color and the level of mottling, matrix and markings we will accept. Sleeping Beauty Turquoise can have all of these markings in the stone, but QVC currently accepts only Sleeping Beauty Turquoise that is free of markings.

What is matrix?
Turquoise deposits usually form in iron-rich host rock which tends to create dark brown or tan markings called matrix.

Where is Turquoise mined?
Turquoise is found in only a few places on earth: dry and barren regions where acidic, copper-rich groundwater seeps downward and reacts with minerals that contain phosphorus and aluminum. Some areas that most of the turquoise has been mined: Arizona, Mexico and China. Sleeping Beauty Turquoise is from the Sleeping Beauty mine outside Globe, Arizona. The mine got its name because the mountain where it is mined resembles a sleeping woman laying on her back with her arms crossed.

How can we continue to sell Sleeping Beauty Turquoise if the mine is closed?
QVC suppliers have acquired large quantities of rough turquoise when they learned the mine was closing. We have been using these lots of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise for our jewelry.

The Sleeping Beauty mine is currently closed and, at this time, there is no new production of the Sleeping Beauty stones.

About Michael Dawkins
Michael Dawkins

Michael Dawkins has developed one of the most recognizable and respected brands in designer jewelry. As a student, he was drawn to architecture and industrial design. The combination of these interests and his pursuit of an aesthetic sensibility shape his design process. Dawkins explains: "I have discovered the basic principles of form and rhythm in the study of natural objects. I strive to translate these principles into jewelry designs that are functional, wearable, and timeless."

He's always used classic materials: silver, gold, diamonds, semi-precious stones, and unusual natural materials found in his travels. Early on in his career, Dawkins discovered the ancient technique of granulation, in which metal is heated and formed into tiny spheres that are affixed in various patterns. Incorporating this design element along with clean, crisp lines has become his signature. His collections combine a modern sensibility with an infinite respect for the hues, textures, and compositions abundant in nature.

All of these influences come together to create some of the most sought-after collections in contemporary designer jewelry. His frequent personal contact with clients provides invaluable feedback, making his jewelry striking and extremely wearable.

What a Steal! This is a beautiful bracelet - I am looking forward to wearing it. Nice design, substantial without being over the top. I am happy I splurged on it. 06-13-12

GEMSTONES COMBINATION IS PERFECTION I've been searching for a turquoise bracelet but I don't like the southwestern style; this bracelet is exactly what I've been looking for. The color of the turquoise cabachons is the perfect blue, very close to the Sleeping Beauty turquoise color and the combination of the turquoise with the azurmalachite and rock quartz is so amazing. I could not stop looking at it all day. It's so much more than just a silver turquoise bracelet -- its a beautiful designer gemstone bracelet that you will never grow tired of. I I found this on qvc.com but its even more beautiful in person. Now I understand why Michael Dawkins has so many fans. I have an average size wrist but I use the 2nd link to fasten the bracelet and it still has a nice drape. 06-08-10
Gemstones Yes, Open Flowers No I wanted to love this because Michael Dawkins' designs are gorgeous. I have been looking for the unique turquoise bracelet, and I thought that I had found it. Unique it is, but I did not like the open flower design because they sit up too high off the wrist. I think that I would dent or bend them during wear. It is pretty, but not for me. 04-24-10
Runs big.... The bracelet was nice .... but it just didn't have the WOW factor for me that I was hoping for. It also runs pretty big - so it did dangle more than I wanted. So for those two reasons (no wow factor, runs big) I sent it back as well. Oh well....maybe next time! 04-16-10
OMG - Michael, you are so good! This bracelet is fabulous. I literally cannot take my eyes off it. I am just stunned by the sparkle of the hammered silver flowers, shimmer of the blue/green center doublet, and blue of the turquoise all wrapped up into one GORGEOUS bracelet. I would love to have a matching doublet enhancer or necklace. Another great design, Michael. Thank you for helping us feel beautiful. 04-15-10
Disappointed I thought this bracelet was very pretty and ornate until I took it completely out of the bag and one piece of turquoise fell out in my hand. It looked like the glue did not hold and the stone was paper thin. So, I sent it back and probably won't try for another one. This is unusual for Michael Dawkins jewelry. I have many pieces and have never ran into a problem. I hope the rest of you get a good quality bracelet. 04-14-10
Gorgeous! Like the handful of other Michael Dawkins pieces that I own, this one wowed immediately on TV, when the box arrived, and on the wrist. It's really, really quite an amazing bracelet. The turquoise is bright and a beautiful shade - mine has a very small amount of matrix, but I like matrix so no issue with that. The dimension on the bracelet is astounding - the 4-circle "stations" are beautiful, the links themselves are sculpted,/granulated, the bezels are rippled, the stones are different shapes and proportions, the rock crystal is faceted and has height ... it's just a gorgeous piece and interesting from every angle. The size runs large, I think. My wrist is very average, but even on the smaller of the two toggle links, the bracelet is on the larger size - I like a little drape, though. There are 5 very small links from the braclet to the toggle that a jeweler could easily take out any/all to make the bracelet smaller. 04-14-10
