This thing is absolutely marvelous! I bought my climber when my wife and I started a new job that required a lot of energy. When we finished using the climber it gave us the energy needed to do the job. Being in our mid 40's it is/was hard to start back up exercising. Though we tried we failed. But the climber has helped in the transition from a sedentary lifestyle to becoming jocks, and watching the pounds just falling off. Get this machine. You will love it.

This is easy to assemble; pretty much attach the two arms and the two legs. I have mine on carpet so it is pretty quiet. Very smooth and quiet when being used. My daughter and I had been using this the past two weeks and neither one of us last more than 10 minutes. Yes, it is a good workout and it is easy on the joints.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Mary J Treuil A Review about Knee Problems and MaxiClimber
I have severe arthritis in both knees. In my right knee, I tore my Miniscus and my ACL a year ago and was in bad shape. I use a cane on rainy days. The surgery didn't go so well to clean up my knee, and I was in and out of being in bed for a year. I gained weight, but conventional exercises require you to use your knees. So I couldn't exercise and became more and more depressed as I looked for something that would help me exercise and slim down, as nothing could be found. The elliptical machine only made it hurt worse. I can climb up on a ladder (to change light bulbs, hang decorations, etc) and so when I saw this on QVC, I thought maybe I could do this because it looks like climbing. Unlike walking up a staircase, which kills my knees, the MaxiClimber is at approximately a 78 degree angle. I might also mention that I broke my left knee in 2008. I use my left leg to get onto the machine first. Then the sore knee (yes, turns out I have to have surgery again and perhaps knee replacement surgery) leg. I did use the arms (you use it to pull your weight up and down and it also tones your arms and upper body strength) and that released the first tinge of pain. Made me stop for a second because I sure as heck didn't want to hurt myself further. Once I understood the feel of it (using my own bodies weight to run the machines) I was able to make it go smoothly like the fit ladies on TV. However, don't overdo it the first week. That first time, i was only able to do it for 45-seconds! Man, am I outta shape! No problem, I am determined to get healthy! I got off the machine and could hear my heart beating in my ears! So during the day I now get off of my computer
(I'm at home using my computer 8-10 hours per day) every hour and get on the machine for a minute. I'm gradually going to do this, and so far have had it for a week, and no knee pain afterwards! My advice is to take it easy, work up to the 10-minutes in one workout. If I feel it too much in my legs/knee, I immediately can pull up on the handles without fear of injuring myself. And too, it's working out my upper-body. I love this machine! I don't recommend as a gift as it is a personal item. UNLESS, it is asked for! : )

I've read several comments about this being hard on knees but my husband who has had knee surgery 20 years ago and probably needs another has no trouble with that nor do I with my knee that gives me problems occasionally. As far as getting it put together, my 13 year old son and I had it put together in less than 15 minutes. We've had no issues with its stability/balance (ours is on hardwood floor). Our Maxiclimber arrived in great shape. My husband, myself and both of our children (ages 13 and 9) use this daily. I would recommend.
