Laura Mercier began honing her artistic talents at age 17, when she entered painting school in Paris. After deciding to shift from the canvas to the face, Laura attended the Carita School, where she specialized in makeup application. She went on to represent Carita as a makeup artist and teacher and worked closely with Thibault Vabre.
In 1985, Laura moved to New York to help launch the American version of Elle Magazine. She oversaw several high-profile ad campaigns and created editorial spreads for the likes of Vanity Fair, Glamour, Seventeen, and other publications. Laura also worked with L'Oreal, Maybelline, Victoria's Secret, Gap, Banana Republic, and many other companies. One special highlight in her career includes helping Madonna define her look for print, TV, and film. Later, Laura entered a four-year contract with Elizabeth Arden and designed the makeup looks for their ad campaigns. She also worked with Chanel in France.
In 1996, Laura developed Laura Mercier Cosmetics to benefit women of all ages and skin types. She created colors to satisfy the needs of her clients based on a classic and always-current palette, rather than seasonal trends. The line is now available in almost 650 stores in 24 countries, and Laura makes appearances throughout the year at major department and specialty stores.
