J331557 Judith Ripka blackened sterling 20" Verona necklace
Grade: Design A; Execution: C-
Yea: part of new set of push-closure link necklaces
Boo: where's the substance?
Value #1=low; 10=high#: 6
When I first saw this blackened silver #20"/26 grams# along with the tri-color set of three chains together #J331272; 60"/80 grams# with the push-closure links, I thought maybe it would coordinate with Judith's former TSV, the convertible pearl necklace and gemstone add-ons. A fun idea, right? Now that I have this blackened Verona chain home and attached to the older pieces, I see that it doesn't work. Why? Lack of heft and quality in the new Verona design.
The weight is simply too light because all of the links, except the push-closure link which is solid, are hollow and featherweight. The push-closure link is even a hair darker than the rest #and not nearly as substantial as those in the former-TSV convertible set#. Maximum width links are nearly 1/2" wide, not the 3/8" in the Q description. Holding the links in your hand, they make a sound something like the reindeer bells ringing to show Santa has landed. Light and high tone. Sounds funny I know but that's what comes to mind.
Finally, while I think the look of this blackened Verona chain necklace is OK #I will keep for that reason#, I suggest waiting for a serious price reduction #a fair one on this piece is why I bit# on this and the tri-color set due to the lack of solid links.
This is a great idea and beautiful design which requires more substantial materials for long-term wear. Devoted Ripkanistas need it. Please do better!
