J261608 - Joan Rivers Ltd. Ed. Couture Statement Crystal Bangle
Not all that!
Received this today, and I usually really love big, bold and glamourous. This is big, and bold but it really looks like cheap costume jewelry. The interior finish is so so and the hinge is hideous. I disagree that it has to look like it does (a big gaping hole) for a piece this heavy. I own a Elizabeth Taylor, very heavy and very large costume gold eqyptian cuff that was a signature Avon piece over 20 years ago and it's hinge is fabulous. So no, it does not have to look like it does to support the piece. For $300.00 I expect every detail to be really fabulous, this one is going back.
both are very nice
I bought both colors. Yes it is a large bracelet, substantial, but that was the whole point !! It is a great party/dinner bracelet - I like it (both of them actually) a lot, and have received compliments on both.
I recieved this bangle today and it is FABULOUS! I bought the gunmetal version and couldn't be happier! It has major presence and bling factor! I don't think this is for everyone as it is a big statement piece.
I have never spent $300.00 dollars on costume jewelry ( or rarely buy costume jewelry) but was intriged to try this
on trend bangle. I like the fact that it is limited and numbered.
So take it from a jewelry snob, this is FABULOUS!
In fact I may have to have this in the clear as well!
Way to go Joan you have a new fan, keep the gunmetal pieces coming!
I'm Too Chunky for This Bracelet! :)
Oh well, you can't have everything. This bracelet is beautiful and yes it is heavy. I could have survived all of that. The craftsmanship is beautiful. And yes, the hinge does show, but to me it didn't detract from the piece. I had to return the bracelet since I have a 7-3/4" wrist and the bracelet was too fitting for my wrist and arm. Joan, for us plus-sized gals, please make this in a large size. A half-inch larger would have made a difference!
I too feel I have to save this item from the dreadful reviews! The others that disliked this item should not have ordered it if they don't understand glamour jewelry that is well executed. A bracelet of this magnitude must have a substantial hinge. If the hinge were hidden, as in fine jewlery, the price point would have been $1000 or more! Simply can't be done in costume jewelry that QVC could bring to it's loyal customers. Joan has impeccible taste and I trust her judgement in the design of fine pieces such as this. I was lucky enough to get both the gunmetal and the silvertone and I will cherish them forever! To those that don't like it....leaves more for us glamour gals that like to own the room at a party!!!!
INCREDIBLE!!! Unbelieveably gorgeous -an heirloom!
I have to say, I was shocked by the negative reviews of this product. Yes, the bracelet is heavy, and the hinge is substantial. But this is an heirloom-quality piece of craftsmanship, timeless design and quality. It looks like a million dollars (which I expect from a $300 bracelet!) The pave work is breathtaking. I got it in the gunmetal, because the other finish was sold out, and in retrospect, I'm glad the choice was made for me. The gunmetal finish on such a large bracelet makes the effect slightly more subdued and elegant, but no less impressive. I wore it last night and felt like an old-time movie star. Joan, please bring us more pieces of this caliber!!!!!
Classic Machine Age Bling
I am going to be the one dissenting voice here among the rest of the reviewers. This bangle is a fantastic representation of Machine Age vintage jewelry - streamlined design, industrial-looking darkened metal, heavy in appearance, but with gorgeous crystals to give it that unexpected sparkle, and yes - with the very industrial-looking hinge mechanism in clear view. All of the above is part of the look, especially the mechanisms of the opening and closing of the piece being shown in clear view. Now, I'm not in any way saying that all you reviewers who hated it are wrong; quite the contrary. This style of jewelry is completely a matter of taste - you either like Machine Age jewelry or hate it. Sparkly, feminine, Hollywood - this bangle is not. But as a wow piece with specific outfits (great w all black and marcasite pieces) -not to be worn for too long a period (it IS indeed heavy) this bangle is perfect. Kudos to Joan and her design team for getting this piece so exactly right for what it's supposed to be. (google "machine age jewelry" - part of Art Deco era).
Feels like a brick on wrist...
YIKES, what a huge disappointment! This bangle is way tooooo heavy on the wrist and is just too awkward looking on - design is just too big, something surely isn't right...so not what I thought it would be...back it went! Couture really?????
Ugly Hinge Outshines the Crystal
I ordered this bracelet looking forward to how chic it would be. The large unsightly hinge, becomes the focus of the bracelet. This needs to go back to the drawing board. Good concept, bad execution. Will wait for the re-do.
Ugly Hinge Ruins the Beauty of the Bracelet
I couldn't wait to get this bracelet in the gunmetal, thought it was beautiful--until I received it. I agree with the other review. The hinge is absoutely horrible, it's huge, and ruins the beauty of the bracelet. It reminds me of a hinge on a door. It doesn't matter which way you turn the bracelet. You're either going to see the ugly hinge or the line where two ends of the bracelet meet. It's too bad. Not worth the price, which I thought was a little high to begin with. I'm sending mine back. Work on a different hinge, please!
Very Heavy and Bulky!
Bracelet is too heavy to wear and looks too clunky.
I wanted to fall in love with this bangle, but I can't. It's like my last boyfriend, hangs on my arm and weighs me down. Girls if you enjoy throwing things when you get a little upset, this is your bangle....it feels like a baseball. The hinge is ugly too, sorry Joan.
