A214126 - Janie Bryant MOD Ostrich Embossed Leather Shoulder Bag
Wish it was a bit bigger, but I love it!
I'd hoped this would work as a laptop bag for me and I was dissapointed that it's too small for that. However I love the bag itself. It's very well made, the embossing is great and the material is beautiful! The pockets are just right for most needs. I set it on the bookshelf in my office the first day I carried it and peole were stopping to drool over it all day.
Kinda let down
Been looking at this bag seems like forever. Finally on easy pay....it's mine! Just opened the box today and hmmmm. Tried it on right away, looks good. Doesn't smell like leather but oh well. Checked my other leather bags, THEY smell like leather. Closer look...the poodle is badly tarnished, fine, take the poodle off. Wait, the clasp is made out of the same metal as poodle......tarnish soon? And it's scratched up a bit. And it's on crooked. Major bummer. REALLY REALLY wanted this bag but.....kinda let down.
I love purses, and though I have many of them, I have always been searching for the perfect everyday work bag. I've tried (and returned) a number of them. It's been a challenge trying to find the right balance of size, function, fashion, quality and price, but I think I may have finally found it in this bag! The size is perfect: I'm a big bag girl, and it's not too wide, and not too long. Functionality is excellent: plenty of well placed and thought out pockets. And the interior is light colored, so my things aren't swallowed by a black hole of fabric. The shape is structured but feminine, and the bag sits up when I set it down, as opposed to collapsing into a pile of beautiful, too soft leather or synthetic, as the case may be. The leather isn't Dooney or Tignanello, but it's definitely acceptable. It appears to be well constructed: nothing seems flimsy or shoddily done. And did I mention that I really like the beautiful neutral color and ostrich texture. This bag holds all of my things with room to spare, and does it with ladylike flair. It wasn't cheap, at $200+, but only time will tell if it is worth it. Bottom line is I THINK I LOVE IT!
I've been watching this bag for quite some time. Finally it was on easy pay so I ordered. For the price of this bag I expected to open the box and say WOW. DID NOT happen. The tan color looks a lot richer on line and it was a litte larger than I expected which I could have dealt with the size. I did like the inside of the bag very nice. Bag is on its way back. For the price of this bag I could not keep it when to me it was just ok.
I have to agree with the other reviewer that the embossing is poor. It does look as if it was painted on the bag. This one has to go back. I would be willing to pay more if the embossing was of quality.
Substantial and PERFECT!
If you've ever been fortunate enough to see a circa 1950's really high end handmade handbag, you'd see what this bag has been modeled on. I have the tan. This is "old school" tan - a rich deep tan that you just don't see around anymore.
This is a large and heavy bag. The inside organizers are not simply the typical slip cellphone wall pockets, this has an internal clasp pocket. The hardware is very substantial as is the poodle hang tag. The double straps are long enough for over the shoulder but not so long as to look awkward when carrying at the elbow.
The leather-which another writer found "fake" (and look, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but this opinion is misleading), is embossed, and thank goodness, because the price for ostrich would be fifty times the price of this bag.
This is a very structured bag. The leather is and should be quite stiff and will never soften. It looks like as close to a Birkin bag as I've seen in awhile. And just to be clear, Hermes Birkin bags run to $150,000.
I have the other MOD bag from last fall. I felt that that bag fell a little short although I got a thousand compliments on it. THIS is a vast improvement. If the fabulous Jane Bryant is going to pursue a line of handbags while we all wait for the next season of Mad Men, she is off to a terrific start!!
I got the tan color. The embossing looked painted on to me and the body of the bag had a plastic sort of feeling. The organization is great, but I couldn't get over the feel of it, It felt cheap to me, It had to go back.
Classy - Ladylike and Modern too!
Reminds me of a vintage handbag my mother had, very lovely shape, but updated for the way we live today. This great bag has it all - bigger (not too big tho) & roomy for all the things we carry, longer handles to fit over the shoulder, and outer pockets for all the "essentials" keys, phone, whatever. I just love this bag - came back for the tan. BTW, these two timeless colors are perfect for anyone building a bag wardrobe :)
Just received this in the mail. Have not had a chance to switch over to it yet, but it is so beautiful. I ordered it because I liked the looks and I love the poodle emblem, since I have a poodle, this was a must have. Purse is large, but there is so much room and a lot of nice pockets. I am very organized and I hate when my purse is a mess. The tan is such a beautiful color, Very well made, worth the money!!!
