InsideQ: Congratulations on 50 years of designing jewelry! Could you share with InsideQ Members some of your favorite memories from over the years?
Kenneth: The Duchess of Windsor came to my showroom and bought a load of stuff (probably in the early '60s). Jackie Kennedy invited me to the White House and I gave her a pair of earrings which were in her auction. Barbara Bush wore my pearls, etc., etc.
InsideQ: How did you start out as a jewelry designer?
Kenneth: I had an original idea, followed by another original idea, followed by another...it's all in my book Kenneth Jay Lane: Faking It.
InsideQ: You've met and had your jewelry worn by so many of the "elite." What would you say was the most humbling moment in your career?
Kenneth: It has yet to happen. Only the death of some of my swans and royals.
InsideQ: Describe your design style in one sentence.
Kenneth: My style is to please my own eyes.
InsideQ: What (or who) inspires you the most?
Kenneth: What inspires me (among 6,457 other things) is the fact that the ladies who don't live near Saks Fifth Avenue or Neiman's, etc. can be made happy by buying my jewelry on QVC.
InsideQ: What can we expect from the jewelry in your re-launch?
Kenneth: Some iconic pieces.
InsideQ: Name something you've always wanted to try, personally or professionally.
Kenneth: To open a very small and very, very luxurious inn in the countryside with wonderful food.
InsideQ: What are some things we can count on seeing from you in the future?
Kenneth: More beautiful designs.
