Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use the SI–70 to sanitize my carpets?
A: Yes, the carpet–glide tray comes with the unit so you can sanitize your carpets, rugs, mattresses, sofas, etc. We recommend that you check the care instructions prior to use.
Q: How long does it take for the SI–70 to heat?
A: It reaches temperature (212 degrees) in about 30 seconds.
Q: Is the clicking/thumping noise I hear normal?
A: Yes. This is just the sound of water pumping through the heating element to the base of the unit. In some units, the sound will lessen after it heats up, but it's still perfectly normal to hear it throughout the duration of the steaming.
Q: How many watts does the SI–70 use?
A: It uses 1200 watts in order to achieve an optimized level of steam that's not only gentle on floors, but is also powerful enough to tackle tough dirt and grime.
Q: Why doesn't the hand–held unit seem to have a lot of steam pressure?
A: It's not a pressurized unit. It's engineered with an optimized amount of steam that loosens stains and dirt while retaining a gentle steam emission on most surfaces.
Q: How many steam jets does the SI–70 have?
A: It has 15 steam jets.
Q: How long is the cord?
A: The cord length is 25 feet.
Q: What are the red and silver packets I received and how do I use them?
A: These packets are fresh–rinse lime and scale remover. Depending on the frequency of use, you should use one packet every 3 – 6 months. Pour a packet of lime and scale remover into a tank with one cup of water and shake the water tank. Sit the SI–70 on the black resting mat to allow the solution to steam out through the unit. This cleans the inside of the unit and removes potential lime and scale buildup.
Q: How long does a tank of water last and what's the tank's capacity?
A: The water tank holds 13.5 ounces of water and will last for about 25 minutes of steaming.
Q: Can I use the SI–70 on any type of flooring?
A: You can use it on any sealed, hard–surface floor that doesn't have a wax or no–wax finish such as hardwood, laminate, vinyl, stone, and tile. We recommend that you check with your flooring manufacturer before use.
Q: Does the SI–70 really kill germs?
A: Absolutely! Because it emits steam through the pad in excess of 212–degrees Fahrenheit, germs, bacteria, dust mites, and allergens are killed almost instantly.
Q: How often do I need to buy new cleaning pads?
A: The patented ultra–microfiber pads included with your SI–70 are reusable. You simply toss them in the washing machine, but please don't use fabric softener or bleach. We recommend air drying, but you can also dry them on a low setting in your dryer. The life expectancy of the pad depends on how frequently it's used. Typically, a microfiber pad's life expectancy ranges from 4 – 6 months.
Q: What do I do if my screw is missing?
A: To locate your screw, please check the small bag that contains the lime and scale remover inside the box.
Q: Why isn't the swivel head more agile?
A: The swivel head works on a spring system. If the mechanism was too loose, your unit wouldn't be able to stand upright by itself. To maneuver the swivel head, roll your wrist from side to side.
Q: Does this unit come with attachments?
A: Yes. It not only comes with a carpet tray, but it also comes with an angle nozzle, brush attachment, small steam–head attachment, and a small steam–head pad.
Q: When do I use the bonnet?
A: The bonnet is used for any hard surface such as countertops, a refrigerator, sealed tables, shower doors, tile, porcelain, etc. Remove the bonnet when you want to sanitize your sofa, drapes, or any other soft surface.
Q: Can the hand–held unit be used if the steam nozzle is pointing up?
A: It's most effective in a horizontal position or when the steam nozzle is pointing downward.
Q: Should the bonnet fit tightly?
A: Yes. The bonnet needs to fit tightly to the mini–steam head in order for the steam to flow through it. If the bonnet isn't tight–fitting or loose, the steam will become trapped and not sanitize as effectively.
