HALO Photo/Document Scanner Mouse w/Pad & Easy Share Software
I’ve had the Halo Scanner mouse since the holidays and I've used it many times to scan photos, recipes, documents and recipes, and I love it. This is probably the most convenient and practical item that I've bought on QVC so far. There is a learning curve when it comes to controlling the scanner and getting it to scan smoothly, but once you get the hang of it, it’s quick. Now I don’t have piles of paper lying around, all my important documents and much loved pictures and recipes are conveniently located on my computer.
A Love/Hate Relationship!
My Hubby set this up & I was excited to get it for the Holidays. Once installed, I began. So far I've scanned nearly 300 pix. MOST of the time it moves smoothly. I noticed that Polaroids & Glossy images get distorted or the mouse image pops up saying to go over it again. So I have to cancel & redo more than a few times. Since I have Lupus it gets uncomfy for me & the cord sometimes get caught in the photo. The plus? Customer service staff is VERY helpful! If you have a problem, email or call & they will do their best! Needless to say, I have Pictures in all sorts of files. Sometimes instead of JPEG it jumps to PMG & it gets time consuming going through stuff but I enjoy memories of my Gram, Dad, Grampa & Mom from old Black & whites to autographs I've been collecting. It does get overwhelming at times but if you enjoy taking pix, you WILL enjoy this.
Pros - Acts as a Mouse AND a Scanner, Fast & Easy to Use, Convenient When It Works, Can Scan Variety of Sizes, Works Great When It Works
Cons - Works Sporadically, Sometimes Image is Distorted, Forgets it is Scanning and Asks You To Scan Areas Already Scanned, Cord is Too Short, Can Only Scan Flat Articles
I am not sorry I purchased this item, but it does need some tweaking.
My son's Samsung Galaxy S3 scans much clearer and easier, but then you have to transfer it to the computer. With this product, it's automatically stored into the computer.
Not Easy To Use
I purchased this item based on the demonstration I saw on QVC. It looked really easy and I was especially interested in being able to scan larger documents and some of my art work. My first problem was in trying to install it using the CD Software. It did not work. I then went to the online installation and was able to install it that way. The mouse works just fine and the scanner works. The problem is that when trying to scan even a small photograph it is difficult to move the mouse across the photo in a way that picks up the image without distorting it. I have scanned documents and the problem is to be able to scan it without lines being distorted or text overlapping. I wish I had returned it, but I did not try to use it for quite a while after I received it. I'm guessing its too late. I'm just about done with QVC... Last two or three items were not to my liking and I don't like to pay to return. I'll stick with Amazon.
Good & Bad
First, I had trouble installing the driver, tried both CD & download. I had to put it on another computer, not my first choise. It was not compatible with something called (data encrytion prevention) that was on my computer of choise. Even with the manual, it took me a while to figure out how to get it to work. There are still features that I don't understand. I did manage to copy a few recipes from a book, and they look good on the computer. I think it will be a great tool for what I bought it for once I get used to using it. I have a pandigital wand scanner for flat papers, but this is better for copying from a book.
It didn't work as quickly or easily as it looks in the presentation. Sent it back
Great scanner, cute in my Leopard!
I love this scanner, it has worked great for me. I printed out a few recipes that I scanned and both the color as well as the black/white copies were clear to read.
I have the Pandigital bar scanner from QVC and do prefer that style for speed.
But use both products as I need too.
I returned it
I read the reviews after seeing the QVC presentation and it seemed that about half were not satisfied with this product. I decided to try it anyway. I got it, inserted the DVD and got a message saying my computer (which has mega RAM, and a ton of free GB available) lacked the minimum requirements for the program. I simply returned it.
This is one of those examples of something that's great if it works and the QVC demo implies that it does --- but apparently many of us aren't able to use it for whatever reason.
When I first recieved this it worked really well. Played with it for awhile, no issues. Havent had a chance to mess with it for awhile, but went to scan some pics today and they were all distorted and just wouldnt scan well. Messed with it for about 2 hours and just couldnt get it to work properly. So disappointed. Its passed the return date so I guess I am stuck with an expensive mouse. Will not order again.
Easy to Use, Works Great! Needs to be 10 STARS!
I have used many types of scanners for home and business. This is the easiest one, most accurate and produces a copy that anyone can edit with any average software! You don't need to be a graphic artist to use this one!
Worst Purchase Ever
I tried to scan recipes, but couldn't read them after scanning. I tried scanning photographs, but they looked like they were in a fog or a filtered lens. I keep trying different items, but nothing is clear after scanning.
Halo Mouse Deserves Its Halo!
Let me start by saying I have an excellent flat-bed scanner. But I wanted to digitize very old family photos without having to destroy the albums by cutting the pages out. I tried a wand-type scanner but it hiccupped over every little bump in the photos and the pages, leaving jagged images. Then I got this little Halo Mouse.
I could not believe my eyes! Not only did it scan the photos, even over bumps, but the software that comes with it can almost completely remove the "old photo" sepia tone and make an almost perfect black-and-white image if you want. I don't need 100 megapixel reproductions -- I just want to get the photos out of the crumpled, crumbling pages before they disintegrate completely. This does the job!
Not only that, but . . . I have some very old computer documents that were printed on a dot-matrix printer that I wanted to digitize. Even my flat-bed scanner had trouble with those. The Halo Mouse not only scanned them; it turned them into 99% accurate Word documents. (I actually got better results NOT using the plastic "cover" on the mousepad; just held the paper so it didn't slip.)
My brother is a computer tech and his jaw dropped to the floor when I demo-ed this for him.
While I wasn't completely satisfied with its color scanning, for what I need it to do, it does wonderfully! If you have old family pix in a crumbling album, this just might well solve the problem for you!
